Chapter 15
Ellen's POV
The small weight felt like it was as heavy as the world. However, it was many hours later and our baby girl was curled in my arms. Her tiny face was so small wrapped up in the yellow blanket that was keeping her safe in my arms.
The cries of life that had shaken the room had subsided and her little life steadied the whole hospital.
It felt as though the planets had aligned for the first time in my life since meeting Ashton. My Della's dad.
Everything felt so perfect as I tried not to let happy tears cascade onto her soft face.
A large thumb caressed her forehead as we both stared down at the biggest thing we had done together. My life had not felt so complete until now.
"My two baby girls." His voice was soft and full of emotion as he left a gentle kiss on my sticky forehead. Not even the wet towel could remove the sweat that came from both the birth and how nervous and exited I was.
Her tiny hands moved around the knitted fabric and my heart swelled so big I thought it was going to burst through my chest and cover my little angel.
"She's so perfect. How could anything be so perfect, Ash?" I asked him softly, my gaze never leaving my baby girl's face as I felt my whole being swell with pride.
"You are her mother," Ashton gently joked, causing my smile to widen as I get Della shift in my arms gently, her tiny mouth opening just a tiny bit.
"Is she ready to see visitors?" The midwife had popped her head into the door, and Ashton an I glanced to each other in approval before nodding our heads.
I watched as Michael and Megan slipped into the room, timidly walking over to us and remembering to be silent for the tiny angel in my arms.
"She's so precious," Megan leant down over my shoulder to gently stroke Della's cheek.
Michael wrapped his arm over Ashton's shoulder, congratulatory patting him on the back.
"Can I hold her for a minute?" She asked and I reluctantly nodded, letting her take Della and watching as she held her like a precious gem.
"You're a wee cutie like your parents," Megan cooed to the child quietly and I couldn't wipe the grin off my face even if I tried.
The four of us stayed like that for a few minutes before Megan passed Della onto Ashton.
"We better go, you too are probably tired out," Michael said and I eagerly nodded, not realising quite how fatigued I was until now, too preoccupied with my little Della.
"Luke says he'll come and see her in the morning when you have all had time to rest," Megan smiled and I nodded, gently waving to the two as they left the room as silently as they had came in.
I then looked at Ashton as he held our precious girl in his arms, in his own little bubble with her.
There's nothing more I could want in this world than my small, gorgeous family.
