Chapter Seventeen

Edited

~Kaylee

“That concludes the end of today’s session, see you all next Friday.” the blonde lady, who I recently found out was Helen, announced.

Letting out a sigh of relief, I texted my uncle to come pick me up. Just as I dropped my phone, a familiar ball of excitement jumped over to where I was seated.

“Hey bestie.” She chirped.

“We’re besties now?” I rose my eyebrows.

I wasn’t offended, just amused.

“Well in here anyway, considering you don’t talk to anyone else.” She laughed. “What’s up with you? You weren’t here last week.”

My mind went back to the date Christian and I had last week and my face instantly flushed.

“I-I was bu-busy.” I choked on my words.

“Busy doing what?” she said catching up.

“With homework.” I lied avoiding her gaze.

“Yet you’re blushing, stuttering and looking away? Ok, who’s the boy?” She asked.

“How did you know that?” my eyes widened as I turned to look at her.

“I’m a teenager, I’ve had my fair share of crushes.” she shrugged. “So who is he? And what did you guys do that’s making you go all giddily?”

“Nothing.” I lied again not sure if I was up to telling a stranger about my love life.

Was she a stranger though? She didn’t feel like one.

“OK, I get it. You’re shy. I’ll just tell you about mine.” she said and before I could stop her, she had already started rambling about all her crushes.

“He was the last boy I ever dated.” Five long minutes later, she was almost done.  “I tell myself we were pretty young, I mean I was 14 and he was 15. I tried to justify his actions but the fact that he played with my feelings and made me a laughing stock in front of the whole school keeps on haunting me. Since then, sure I could crush on one or two guys but the idea of dating really scares me.”

“You shouldn’t try to justify his actions, what he did was wrong.” I frowned and she just shrugged.

How did I go from labelling her a stranger to actually giving her dating advice on a topic I had no idea on either?

“I think you’re a really brave, strong and pretty girl and it’s his luck if he couldn’t see that in you. You’ll meet someone who’ll see the real you.” I said smiling at her.

“No one has ever told me that before, thank you.” she said wrapping her arms around me in a hug.

I was a bit shocked at first but I slowly returned the hug before we pulled apart a little while later.

“See, we really are besties.” She teased and I laughed.

“I guess now I have to tell you about mine.” I sighed and she grinned. “I’ve never dated anyone till now I guess.”

“No way!” she gasped dramatically earning a playful glare from me.

“I guess I had been through a lot and with my cancer, I just kind of distanced myself from people.” I said. “I don’t know how he did it and it’s been barely two months since we met but….I don’t know….he’s breaking the walls I spent years to build and somehow that scares me. I know it doesn’t really make any sense.”

“It kind of does or I guess I understand you. It’s okay to be scared, aren’t we all scared?” She asked and I smiled.

“Yeah…” I mumbled.

“Now the good part.” She pushed and I chuckled.

“We went on a date that’s all.” I replied and she rose her eyebrows. “Maybe we kissed…”

“I knew it!” she squealed. “How was it? Was it your first? Did it feel magical?”

“Don’t push it.” I grinned and she groaned.

“You’re a spoil show.” She grumbled. “Are you guys official yet?”

“I mean….I don’t know yet. Not official but there’s definitely something.” I bit my lip. “Do I even want us to be official?”

“Yes you do!” she narrowed her eyes at me. “Don’t go having any second thoughts now!”

“Yes ma’am.” I laughed.

We talked more for a while before my uncle came to pick me up. D=She was definitely not a stranger anymore after today.

Letting out a breath, I smiled as I walked out of the bathroom after a relaxing long shower. I made my way to my closet surfing through it for something to wear. Spotting the black hoodie which was actually Christian’s, I decided to wear it over some shorts.

I said I was going to return this just not now. Besides, he won’t know I wore it a second time.

Sliding it on, I snuggled into the warmth of the hoodie. The faint scent of wood and musk making it even better, it smelled just like him.

This isn’t creepy right?

Ignoring my thoughts, I opened up the curtains. The sun rays and the fresh slightly cold air flooding into my room just how I liked it. Picking up one of my Maximum ride novels, I fell on my bed and flipped through the pages diving into the world of adventure.

I loved Saturdays!

I was just getting into my novel when I heard the doorbell ring making me frown. My uncle wasn’t home and wouldn’t be till evening. And I wasn’t expecting anybody else.

Forcing myself up the bed, I made my way downstairs to the door.

“Christian? What are you doing here?” I asked as I swung the door open.

“We have plans remember.” He winked referring to what he said yesterday to Melissa. “Besides, we have a group project to complete together.”

“Or it’s just an excuse to hang out with me?” I raised my brow.

“Maybe or maybe not.” He laughed then held out a box that I hadn’t noticed earlier in his hands.  “By the way, these are for you.”

“Éclairs?” I asked taking the box and then smiled. “Now you can come in.”

“You look cute.” He smile at me and I realized i was currently wearing his hoodie.

“I was going to give it back!” I exclaimed.

“Yeah, keep telling yourself that.”

“I really was but now I’m going to keep it just because you’re being annoying.” I huffed stepping out of the way so he could come in.

I shut the door behind me and ran up the stairs to my room before he could reply.

“You can do whatever, I’ll be right here continuing the novel I was reading before I was rudely interrupted.” I shot him an accusing look as I sat down on my chair next to the window.

Raising his hands in surrender, he sat down on the bed.

A few minutes passed as I read till I heard a click sound. Dropping my book, I looked up to the direction of where the sound came from.

“Oops, forgot to turn the camera sound off” Christian smiled sheepishly bringing his phone down.

“You took a pic of me?” I asked even though I already knew the answer.

“I couldn’t resist, you looked so beautiful and peaceful as you were reading.” He replied.

“Can I see it?” I said giving him a fake smile as I got up.

“Nice try.” He laughed placing the phone out of my reach.

“I just want to see it that’s all.” I said trying to grab the phone out of his hand.

“I can send it to you.” He said moving the phone about.

I narrowed my eyes at him as he smirked.

“Fine, keep it.” I said turning around as I walked away a bit before turning back and trying to grab the phone.

Not taking the bait, he moved the phone out of my reach again making me fall on him.

“You’ve got to try harder than that.” He laughed as I continued attempting to take his phone.

Loosing balance, I almost fell off the bed but Christian wrapped his hands around my waist bringing me closer so I wouldn’t fall off.

The distance between us noticeably closer and the feeling of our bodies touching, I felt my face warm up as I felt his gaze on me but I didn’t dare look up.

Totally forgetting about the phone and the picture, only one thing in my mixing was ringing at the moment. Mellissa.

“Who’s she?” I found myself asking.

It was random but I couldn’t get her out of my head till I knew what happened between the both of them.

“Who?”

I looked up at him. “Mellissa.”

“Is she bothering you?”

“I’m fine, I can handle her.” I said. “I just want to know why she’s so mad at me and always around you.”

“It’s not like I care or anything….I’m just…curious.” I added.

“She’s no one, we just have history I guess…” He trailed off. “We’re kind of family friends, and we dated. I ended stuff because of the long distance and I really wasn’t into her. When I moved here, she wanted to get back with me but I didn’t. That’s why she’s mad.”

“Oh…”

Besides.” He said pulling me in and planting a surprise kiss on my lips. “I’m already yours.”

“We’re still doing this?” I laughed referring to the amount of times he has tried to flirt with me and failed.

“Forever.” He said pulling me in for another kiss.

I winced slightly at the word but I didn’t let it show.

“So…what are we now then?” I pulled away slightly so I could look at him.

I knew I couldn’t keep on denying what was going on between us so I decided to see where this goes and hope I don’t regret it.

“We’re….we’re just us.” He said and I smiled as I closed the distance between us

Just the perfect answer I was looking for.
