Never be enough
I'm trying to hold my breath
Let it stay this way
Can't let this moment end
You set off a dream in me
Getting louder now
Can you hear it echoing?
Katya's POV
"Let me taste it."
"Honey, I bought your own ice cream."
"Yeah, but I'd never tasted cherry and dark chocolate ice cream," she said, looking at me with puppy's eyes.
I rolled my eyes before giving her my ice cream cone.
"Ugh, I don't like it, I prefer vanilla," she said, showing me her little cup.
"Do you want to go for a walk?" I asked, taking her hand.
"Sure," she replied, smiling.
We said nothing more. We just walked in silence as our heels echoed through the pavement, and the sea breeze rolled our hair.
"You know Patricia will kill us for being late, right?" She asked without seeing me in the face.
I just nodded as a smile formed on my face.
"I'm very proud of you," she said with a smile and then placed an icy kiss on my cheek.
"Thank you, princess."
Just a couple of hours ago, it had been my graduation ceremony. I made it, finally finished college.
Patricia had planned a dinner at her house to celebrate that her two headaches (Sharon and me) had magically managed to finish college; however, Jason insisted on having dinner at some stupidly expensive restaurant with the proposal that he would pay for everything, because even if he didn't say it, I knew it was his way to thank Patricia for taking care of me all this time.
Unfortunately, I had other plans and wanted to come for ice cream with Trixie before I got to that place, I wanted a private moment. And knowing the gothic girl I grew up with, I knew she thought the same, so surely she and Alaska ran away to do something similar, and we would both drive Patricia crazy. I wasn't very sure; my phone was off.
"You look beautiful under the moonlight," I said, seeing her blush.
She was wearing a pretty sleeveless pink dress with a denim jacket that she stole from Sharon's car; I think it was Blair's. Her hair was tied up in a messy braid that drove me crazy, each part of her do it, just like the first time.
"You do it too," she said, throwing her cup of ice cream in a nearby trash can "You aren't cold?"
"Yes, but I look too fabulous to wear a jacket," I replied, laughing as she rolled my eyes.
"You won't look fabulous with a cold," she mocked, hiding her face into my neck, causing my skin form goosebumps as I felt her little frozen nose.
"Your prom is coming too," I said out of nowhere, taking her by surprise.
"Yeah, it's next week," she sighed deeply "It's all set up, you know? Mom will have a party on Friday to announce that I will go to the medical school," she confessed in a broken voice.
"Trixie..."
"Don't say anything, please," I could feel her tears on my skin "You're going, right?"
"Your mother will go crazy if I go," I replied, caressing her waist.
"I couldn't care less," she said, "Of course, um, you would go like my friend," she confessed embarrassed.
"It' okay baby, I don't care."
I lied.
Yes, of course I cared, we had been dating for several months, and we were still worried about this when I wanted to shout to the four winds that she was mine.
"I... I'm really sorry," she replied as if she could read my thoughts.
"Don't worry, princess."
"Katya..."
"What time is the party?" I asked, trying to change the subject.
"At eight pm."
I bit my lower lip as I remembered that at that hour, that same day, there was something important to do.
"What happens?"
"Uh, that day is the race of fire."
"Huh?" She asked confused, raising her face to see me with her tearful eyes.
"Yeah, well, in the speed zone, there is another tradition," I answered nervously before explaining "Every year there is an important race where many people participate, but you need to be there some specific time to finally be able to compete, they bet a lot of money, I swear, the prize is an impressive amount, but..."
"But..." she encouraged me to continue.
"No rules."
I felt her body tense and her breathing stop for a couple of seconds.
"This is our first year; we are barely allowed to compete," I explained without letting go of her hand.
"You aren't thinking about to do it, right?" She asked in a whisper.
"Don't you see it? With that money, I could take you to the music college and not the stupid medical school that your mother wants, or I could buy an apartment for both of us."
"You already have an apartment."
"No, I'm talking about a real one and not that shit that's about to collapse in the speed zone," I said, taking her by the waist "I want to give you everything you deserve."
She stayed silent for a couple of minutes that seemed eternal.
"No," she said to take my face delicately.
I just frowned, but she wouldn't let me speak.
"It's not worth it," she just replied, "It's not worth risking your life in such a stupid way, I don't mind living in the middle of nowhere, as long as I'm with you it's more than enough."
"No, it's not, I want to be able to fill you with pleasures, I want to buy you those beautiful designer dresses, that you wrap yourself with the most exquisite scents while we make love in silk sheets," I replied firmly "I want you to live like the princess you are, I want you to be happy."
She just smiled tenderly before talking again.
"You haven't listened to me in all these months we've been dating?" She asked with a weak laugh "I don't care about any of that, I don't want a life full of luxuries and eccentricities, I just want you."
"I'm afraid," I confessed, sighing, "That you'll find someone who can give you all that, and it's not me."
"They could gift me the moon and the stars, and you know what? It would never be enough if you are not by my side," she said before gently kissing the corner of my lips, "Promise me you won't run."
"I..."
"Katya, promise it," she said again as she looked at me with her intense honey-colored eyes "I would never forgive myself if anything happens to you," I struggled for a couple of seconds before answered to her.
"I promise it," I said, taking my right hand to the pocket of my dress where I remembered I had put something in this morning.
I looked at her for a couple of seconds, and I realized that I would never love someone the same way in my entire life. I looked at every part of her face, so beautiful and delicate, remembering every moment we spent together, every kiss and caress. I realized that she was the woman of my life and I was willing to prove it to her for the rest of my days no matter if it involved just a week or a hundred years, because she was my life.
"What are you thinking, sole mio?"
"Just don't cry, okay?" I asked with a smile before taking the gold ring out of my pocket and kneeling, hearing her sigh loudly.
"Shit Katya, what are you doing?" She asked nervously, "Get up, damn it."
She insulted a lot when she was nervous, and I think it was totally adorable.
"Just shut up and listen to me," I asked as she nodded quickly and covered her mouth "Beatrice, I love you, there's nothing more to say because I've told you everything before, you're the most beautiful woman ever and also the most talented, I don't want us to marry today, or tomorrow, I want to do it when you feel ready and find your perfect wedding dress, I know this is not the perfect ring, in fact, a girl forgot it at dairy queen and I was just going to give it to you because it's pretty and pink, but why not give it a meaning?" I asked, smiling, "What do you say, my moon? Will you marry me when you're ready?"
She kept crying and scared me at some point because I thought she would say no and break up with me in that very instant.
"Shit, yes!" She shouted excitedly, jumping over me to hug me "God, I love you so much that the word love came short by your side," she said laughing in tears "I want to marry you and have a little house with dogs and cats, oh, and also with children that we have to worry about because Sam and aquaria give them cannabis and Sharon and Alaska a bad example. Sole mio, I want to grow old by your side."
"I love every part of that plan," I smiled as I kissed her.
"Baby, put that ring on me," she laughed as tears kept pouring out of her eyes.
I did it, and we stayed there for a couple of minutes, lying in the middle of the cold sidewalk, smiling at each other like idiots.
"Shit Katya, you saved my life," she confessed with nostalgia.
"And you saved me, gorgeous angel."

"Look who decided to show up," Sharon mocked as she pulled the smoke out of a cigarette.
"Princess, do you want to enter? I reach you in a second."
The blonde doll nodded before giving us a smile and entering the restaurant. Sharon offered me a cigarette, and as she lit it while we listened to the music inside.
"We made it," she said, proud in her voice.
"I know," I replied, smiling, "Remember when we dreamed of opening our photo studio?"
"Yeah, it seemed like a dream to work with models, you know, just to be close to cute girls," she laughed, remembering how naive we were "I'm not interested in photographing them anymore, there's only one girl who makes me wish that."
"And she's so lucky."
"I love her."
"I know," I replied, smiling, "Sharon?"
"Yeah?"
"I asked Trixie to marry me."
I heard her coughing loudly, and I didn't know if it was the news or the cigarette smoke.
"Shit..." She whispered, "Shit, shit, shit! Holly shit!" She shouted with excitement as she hugged me.
"It was more like a ring of promise, and it's not like we're getting married soon, but I wanted to tell you anyway."
"That doesn't matter silly; you'll do it!" She shook my shoulders excited "I'm so happy for you, Katya, you don't know how much."
"Would you want to be like my best woman?" I asked, smiling to see how her eyes were starting to fill with tears.
"Are you serious?" She asked without believing it yet.
"Oh no, it was a joke, I called Courtney, after all, I grew up with her and spent a thousand life by her side, watching her do Satanic rituals but pretending to be an angel in front of her nanny as long as she didn't give her a heart attack."
"You're an idiot," she hugged me until she blew my breath out. "Don't dare to ask Courtney, I'll be your fucking best woman!" She said with a laugh.
"Of course you'll be Noodles, you'd better do it."
"Katya, I love you, and I'm so proud of you, of the woman you have become," she assured, smiling, "I'm so proud to be your sister."
"And I'm of you; I hope you are prepared because a whole life awaits for us."
"I can't wait for it..." she replied with the brightest smile I had seen in her.
OMG, you're gonna hate me so much, lol.
