Prologue

In this world, there were two people: humans and the dragons. The dragons were one kingdom and had only one Dragon King while the humans had many different kingdoms with different kings.

The human kingdoms have one High King who everyone respects, King Macbeth. He rules the most powerful kingdom and everyone listens to him

The Dragon King claimed a land which no one knows the full extent. The only thing any human knows about it is that it includes mountains and caves. The dragons and the humans lived in peace mostly, each on their own side.

But one day, the youngest daughter of the Dragon King and Dragon Queen was terribly sick. The kingdom loved the young girl and was desperate for her survival.

That is not all. Her strange virus was effecting a bunch of other dragons. They had no cure and the Dragon King, Larius, worried about the survival of the dragons for the first time in centuries.

Unless killed, dragons are immortal to old age. It also takes a lot to kill a dragon because of their magic and protective scales.

Dragon King Larius did not know what to do and consulted with his wife, Dragon Queen Cygun.

He asked her, "What do I do? I cannot let my kingdom die."

"I know that you cannot," answered Queen Cygun, "I have been to the library and searched for an answer. I have found none."

"Then all hope is lost," Larius despaired.

Cygun gently told him, "Not yet, Larius. There is one person who might know what to do."

Larius's face turned cold as he understood his wife's idea, "No, absolutely not. I will never go see that old hag again."

"But 'that old hag' as you said is still the most powerful Oracle in the land no matter your past with her," retorted Cygun.

He glared at her, "I will never go see the woman, she is a traitor."

"You must go see Kysy," Cygun practically begged, "If not for me than for your daughter. Kysy might have the only solution."

Swallowing his pride, Larius gave in, "Fine, I will go see Kysy."

Cygun jumped up and kissed her King, full of affection. However, Larius was full of resignation. The past between him and Kysy was rather nasty. It ended with both of them threatening to kill the other. He grimaced at the memory.

Larius stood and ordered the guards, "Inform the council that I will go see Kysy the Oracle Dragon to discover a cure for this terrible disease. It is our only option."

The young dragon guard flew off to do his King's bidding as Larius prepared himself for the long journey to Kysy. He pushed off the ground and went off.

Several hours later, he touched down in front of a small cave, small by dragon standards which is huge for humans. Kysy was waiting for him in front of the entrance.

She told him, "I had a vision you would come for the cure to the Black Death." Black Death is the name people called this deadly disease. It turned the dragon's scales black before they fell off, stripping the dragon of its' magic.

Larius grunted in reply, making Kysy laugh, "Same temperament as always, King Larius. What do you wish to know?"

Kysy knew the answer, but enjoyed putting him through the torture of asking for help and sallowing his ego.

Larius answered with obvious difficulty, "I need your help to find the cure to the Black Death."

"That wasn't that hard, was it?" mocked Kysy.

"Just give me the answer, damn it!" yelled Larius.

Kysy said, "No need to get mad! I will tell you what I know. Not an hour ago, I was hit by a vision. It took me some time to understand it, but now I do. You must go search for the Moon Stone deep in the human's land. This semi-precious gem can be melted into a liquid by dragon's fire breath. Once it is liquid, make those affected the Black Death drink it. It will cure them and all ails."

With that, Kysy hightailed back into her cave where King Larius could not fit. She might like antagonizing him, but she did not have a death wish.

Thinking over Kysy's words, King Larius flew back to the castle. He was an imposing sight, the only black dragon in all the land while King Cygun the only white one. It just proved to show how special they are.

Once King Larius arrived at the castle, the entire council and Cygun were clamoring for answers. With one look, they shut up.

He told them, "Kysy knew of a cure. A stone called the Moon Stone can be melted into liquid and indigested to cure the Black Death."

"Where is it found?" asked a councilor timidly.

"Deep in the human land," answered Larius. There was a gasp of surprise from them all. Dragons rarely interacted with humans at all. Queen Cygun had only met the High King Macbeth once and barely sees any humans.

Going on dragon land was a punishable offense. Any human was killed outright the moment they were spotted.

King Larius announced to the Council, "I will go to the High King Macbeth now to get this Moon Stone. I hope to make a treaty for it."

Queen Cygun said good-bye once again to her husband as she watched him leave with some of their toughest warriors. Only King Larius could speak with all humans.

Dragons did not use their mouths to speak, but rather mind to mind. The most powerful dragon, King Larius can speak to any human. For the other dragons it depended on the level of  psychic ability the human possessed and their own ranking.

In the human lands, there was chaos. Around High King Macbeth, his advisors were panicking at the mention of a group of dragons headed straight for their castle. Macbeth himself was not worried. They were here peacefully. If it was truly aggression, they would attack closer to their own borders before heading here.

Macbeth strolled out of his throne room and awaited on his terrace the arrival of the dragons. He had seen Dragon King Larius twice in his lifetime and was always impressed.

Several minutes later, King Larius and his dragons touched down. Macbeth stood alone for his advisors and men were too scared to emerge.

Macbeth was also used to how the dragons would speak, so it was not a shock when King Larius' voice appeared in his mind, "Greetings, High King Macbeth."

Macbeth used his mouth to talk to them. They could hear and understand him perfectly fine.

He asked, "Greetings, Dragon King Larius. What are you doing here on such a fine day?"

"Last time we spoke, you were interested in a treaty. Were you not?" said King Larius.

This sparked High King Macbeth. He controlled most of the kingdoms, but the second most powerful one and the barbarians who are nomads were causing more problems than usual. He wanted the dragons to guard his borders in exchange for something, but King Larius had dismissed him out of hand, saying there was nothing Macbeth had that he needed.

Now, it seemed that that had changed. This was a very interesting development

Larius continued, "We need all of your ressource of Moon Stone."

Moon Stone? Macbeth was confused. What would the powerful dragons need Moon Stone for. It wasn't even that rare of a stone. How strange . . . It would be easier to acquire so Macbeth was not one to look gift horses in the mouth.

Macbeth answered, "This means you accept the treaty? I give you all of our Moon Stones as we acquire them and you guard my borders against my enemies."

In Macbeth's mind, a thousand thoughts were running through it. This could finally be the opportunity to ride the dragons, something that was never done before

King Larius stiffly replied, "Yes. We, dragons, will guard your borders on the condition we have no human rider."

That put a stop to Macbeth's thoughts. Still, this deal was too good to pass up on.

Macbeth agreed, "It is done. Wait here while I bring the treaty."

High King Macbeth still wanted for one of his sons to ride a dragon. To ride a dragon, it would be to control them. To control even one would mean that he could crush his enemies.

Yes, for now, he would abide by the treaty, but soon he will have his way, Macbeth thought.

King Larius knew of Macbeth's wish to control the dragons hence his hesitation in dealing with humans. But they needed the Moon Stone.

As long as Macbeth followed the treaty, there would be no problem.

They both signed the treaty as best they could. King Larius flew back home with all the Moon Stone the humans could find on such short notice while his dragons took the first guard shift on the borders.

King Larius rushed home, melted the Moon Stone and fed it to his daughter. Queen Cygun watched on hopeful.

Only a hour later and it was obvious it worked. Soon, the Moon Stones were given to all those affected by the Black Death. The dragons were saved.

 *A year later*

The Black Death was fully eradicated from the dragon population. It was also discovered that the Moon Stone had healing properties to other diseases.

It was a prosperous time for the dragons. It was a worry in the back of King Larius's mind was that High King Macbeth would violate the treaty, but he brushed it off, choosing to celebrate their luck.

Meanwhile High King Macbeth was planning and plotting. His eldest son, his heir, has been preparing trying to ride a dragon.

Today was the day his plan was complete. When the dragons were done with their guard shift, they would pass this cliff. Any human could jump off and land on the dragon.

That was exactly what Macbeth was expecting Horatio, his son, to attempt. If he landed on the dragon, he would gain control by poking his sensitive spots like his wings.

Macbeth was confident that they would succeed in their endeavor. To not arouse suspicion, Macbeth sent out Horatio in disguise alone to try and anxiously waited for news at the castle.

At the cliff, Horatio had hid himself in bushes near the edge, the perfect spot for their plan. Without further ado, he spotted a green dragon.

Horatio ran and launched himself into the air, full of confidence that he would succeed.

Little did he know that the said green dragon had sensed him at the cliff and was prepared. The dragon used an evasive manouvre and let Horatio fall to his death, getting impaled on rocks.

He sent a message to King Larius, telling him of what had happened.

At the news, King Larius was enraged. He knew that Macbeth was a lying rat, but he even went to sacrifice his own son!

King Larius ordered, "Guards, take the number of dragons you need and drain the Moon Stone out of the human lands. I will send a message to the dragons guarding the border to come back to us."

The dragons could now sense Moon Stone no matter where it is. With their powerful claws, they could reach it quickly even if it left the earth ravaged afterwards.

Everyone obeyed King Larius and soon enough every dragon and all the Moon Stone was inside dragon borders.

Dragon King Larius sent a message to High King Macbeth, using a bird :

High King Macbeth,

You have violated the treaty. Your son, Horatio, tried to ride a dragon, something explicitly forbidden in said treaty. In accordance to this betrayal, we have removed the dragon guards who were situated at the border and gathered all the Moon Stone in your lands.

We will have no more to do with lying men who make any promise they make. You shall see no more dragons in your lifetime.

Dragon King Larius

After receiving this message, High King Macbeth went crazy. He kept ordering searches for Moon Stone. He became violent, killing all of his wives and his children.

Eventually, his second in command, Frederick, killed him and assumed the power as the next High King.

And as promised, the humans never heard from the dragons for a very long time.
