AI Discussion Part 2

In our first discussion, we talked about how some big names in the world are worried about our development of AI technology could potentially overtake us. In this discussion, we'll look at the frightening eays AI is currently being used in the military.

The military has some amazing toys, some of which are run by AI and therefore very deadly.

The first is a short, small, round cylinder a soldier can place on the ground that collects data from the surrounding terrain and anyone coming by. I'm forgetting the name of this device, but it's basically an easily hidden information gatherer. That doesn't seem very dangerous on the surface, right?

Wrong.

It's been a while since I researched it, but essentially, it's used to give AI the information it collects in order to profile people and the area. And one of these could be in your house or yard and you likely wouldn't know it.

But that's not the only thing watching you. The military has AI drones that fly high above cities and tracks every single person and builds a profile on them. According to the Patriot Act, the government can use it on Americans if they so choose. This law is likely going to be done away with soon. But keep in mind that if AI decides survival is of top importance and it needs to break a law to gather Intel to help it survive, it won't have a problem breaking the law because morals me a nothing to it.

These AI drones that fly overhead will use not only their own data they're gathering, but also data from the internet and that little cylinder device I just mentioned previously. The drone takes all of this data and can get a pretty good sense of your patterns so it can predict what you'll do. It can do this because it has a system of psychological profiling built into it. We're told all of this stuff is for fighting terrorists, but we have proof that the U. S. has used spy technology on its own citizens. That's pretty unsettling.

You might think this isn't important, but imagine that AI decides it needs to go start killing people to survive. Or imagine if there are some shady people in power who decide they need certain people killed off. There are endless scenarios where AI could go very wrong and try to eliminate us.

You say, "Well, we can just turn it off so it can't harm us." I wish it were that easy. The unfortunate reality is that these AI systems are taught to back themselves up on computers all over the world in order to protect their self. In other words, if I shoot down an AI drone spying on us, the AI won't be dead because another version of it will be running on a machine elsewhere in the world. And if it has the means, it will use a factory to build itself, though I don't think that's possible right know, except maybe in black projects.

Now let's get to the real nasty weapons they have.

There's an AI drone that can carry nuclear weapons and be simply told to deliver those to a target and we trust it will do what we told it. Can you imagine entrusting nukes to an AI unit? That's scary.

Then there's this other nifty product the military has that's a tiny drone about which carries a single deadly shot in it and has facial recognition software, so it can find a person in a big city and fire a single, extremely-large round into a person's head. That's what it's made to do. The military goes a big step farther, though, when it mentions that $24 million is what it would cost to buy enough of these little units to surgically take out half the people in the city...by name. In other words, it gives a name to a face that it's supposed to find, using its database, and assassinate. Who needs nukes when you can build these things cheaper and quicker?

These are some brutal weapons.

So I just don't see how anyone could think AI is a good idea for this world. It's very likely going to want to take us over, eventually.
