AI Discussion Part 1
I'd like to discuss a little about AI, quantum computing, and the future.
Most people think AI is a good thing and will really help us in the future. Oddly enough, though, evidence says differently.
There are some great TedTalks from technology insiders who warn us what AI can already do, and how incredibly dangerous it is. These guys say it will kill us eventually.
Elon Musk is a strong proponent of not persuing AI technology because of how dangerous it is. The fact that something could be far more intelligent than us and far more capable than us and yet have no conscience is a serious thing to consider.
Did you know that the programmers and technicians currently building AI units have no idea what's going on inside of them? They don't know what they're thinking. They don't know how they're rewriting their own code. They know very little in some respects.
Imagine how quickly an AI program could reason out that survival is the meaning of life and humans are the most powerful force in their way since humans can turn them off. What then?
You might say, "That's absurd. There are programs in place to keep the AI units from harming humans." But don't forget, the AI units are rewiring their own code constantly. How long does it take them to decide it's best to rewrite that human protection code?
These are pivotal, dangerous times we live in...and there's really nothing we can do about it except watch and hope for the best. Dan Brown's newest book points this out, as well.
Ever heard the term "The Singularity?" Today, it's usually referring to the moment when an AI unit becomes self-aware and can build another AI unit better than itself. Most don't know that half of this has already been done. Google built an AI program that built a better AI version of itself. It was for visual recognition.
Google's AI built another AI:

Elon Musk says that Google is the one company that scares him because of their work into robotics and AI and military AI.
In the next Author's Note, I'll address the militarization of AI we've already accomplished and use in military campaigns today. And never forget that people in black projects tell us that the technology we see today is 30-50 years behind what they've created. Not only that, but Ben Rich, the former head of Lockheed Martin's Skunkworks--one of the most powerful companies in the military industrial complex--said in a speech, "If you've seen it in Star Wars, we've done it and more." And, "We have the technology to take ET home. We have the technology to travel to the stars right now...but it will take an act of God to get it out of black projects and into the public." I'm paraphrasing but those are very, very close to his statements, if not exact. Look them up.
Stay tuned, and please, comment if you have input or questions about this topic.
