Chapter2: The British Factor
ChapterTwo-The British Factor
March 6th, 2008
It's now March, and 7th Anthem are struggling to catch a break. They've done nightclub concerts in NYC, sent a demo EP to major record labels, and even created a MySpace page and a YouTube page. They were unnoticed in the clubs and on the internet. They were rejected by the major labels.
The members all sat in the living area, feeling dejected. They're losing hope for a second shot at international success.
They were silent, but Alyson spoke up because she had to, "We're running out of options. We need a new venue."
Justin asked, "And what if we get rejected again? Then what?"
Alyson sighed heavily as she answered, "Andrew and I talked about this. If we don't get signed by the beginning of 2009, we split up and go to college. We start living as 'normal' people who used to be teen stars."
Andrew added, though sadly, "I hate that is a possibility, but we don't have much of a choice. Aly and I decided that we would move to New York City together, and we would attend NYU as dance majors. We're the strongest dancers in the band, and we'll likely join either contemporary or commercial dance companies."
Then there was silence again, but soon Trevor asked, "Why don't we try out for those TV talent shows, like America's Got Talent or American Idol?"
The members thought for a moment, then Andrew spoke up, "I don't think so."
"Why not?"
"If we go on America's Got Talent, we'll likely become a Vegas act. American Idol doesn't allow groups in the competition. We'd be forced to split up to compete as soloists."
Libby said, "Well, if we are to do American Idol, and one of us win the show, that winner can regroup 7th Anthem, and we'll go under the winner's contract."
Alyson cautious said, "Well, it's not guaranteed that any of us will win that show. Hell, we would be lucky if we made the semi-finals. Besides, there would be singers who are better than us."
Once again, 7A was silent.
It's the next day, and Andrew and Alyson were getting hot coffee drinks for the 7A members. As they went inside their car, Andrew noticed Alyson looking sad.
He held her hand as he said to her, "Aly, we'll find a way. We'll catch a break soon."
Alyson gave a weak smile as she said to him, "I hope so, but I'm not sure anymore. We're barely getting by on what's left of our UTurn earnings. We might have to get side jobs."
Then Andrew turned on the radio to a top 40 radio station as he started driving. He suggested to Alyson, "Maybe we should leave the US, and get signed in another country."
Alyson asked, "Like where? Only Canada and Russia love us. Maurice ruined our chance of making it in Britain, most of Europe, and Asia. We would get hate in Latin America because of the RBD fans."
As Andrew started thinking, the DJ on the radio announced this, "Here's this brand new song. It's Bleeding Love by the winner of a British TV show The X Factor, Leona Lewis."
At that moment, Andrew stopped on the breaks, and exchanged looks with Alyson.
"The X Factor?"
That's what Bailey asked as Andrew and Alyson showed a logo of a British reality search The X Factor on Alyson's laptop.
Alyson explained, "It's this show in England that Simon Cowell created, produced, and judges. It's like American Idol, but this show allows groups in the competition. We can actually catch a break in the UK!"
Amanda said, "But we're not British, we're Americans. How can we get on that show if we don't live in the UK?"
Andrew gave a smug smile as he said, "That's where Justin comes in."
Justin's eyes widen as he asked, "What is it that I do?"
Andrew explained, "You have dual-citizenship. You were born in England, but you recently became an American citizen. With your British citizenship, we can audition for The X Factor."
Alyson added, "The auditions are going on right now, and if we leave now, we can audition in Manchester this weekend."
Andrew then asked the members, "So, do we leave for England to get signed by Simon Cowell?"
With that, the members smiled, and they looked at Justin for a response. He gave a determined smile as he replied, "Let's get signed by Simon Cowell, and take the UK by storm."
