Q-Bae

Everything felt peaceful in Y/N's residence. From the living room, you can see the sun shining through the creak between the curtains, giving the already fresh green room a cozy feeling.

Nimh just sipped some tea while sitting in the only bean chair in the living room since it would have been hard to carry tea and jump onto the couch at the same time while enjoying the tranquility. Well, at least before he heard the familiar thud from the other room.

'Y/N must have woken up now' they thought nervously before finishing their tea and slowly putting it on the coffee table.

It has been a couple of days since Nimh started living with this chaotic duo. Not how he usually spent his days, but it wasn't out of his expectations from someone who claimed to be a witch/wizard, and a talking frog.

He slowly hopped to look at the plants.

-*-

You groggily walked out of your room, a sore-looking Lance hopping soon after you.

"G-good m-morning, Y-Y/N! M-morning, Lance!" Nimh said brightly, as he turned to you two.

Lance only managed to hum in response, and you waved to him, not really wanting to respond before getting your morning coffee.

Nimh looked awkward as none of you responded, but continued his conversation with Lance.

"So... Lance, how was your morning?" Nimh asked curiously.

Lance shot him an angry expression before looking away. "Besides getting thrown into the wall again? Not much." He responded not minding Nimh.

Nimh just chuckled nervously, while you looked at those two as you waited for your coffee. As you continued staring at it, Nimh soon noticed it and tried to further look away at Lance or at any other plant that was around.

You took notice of how Nimh was uncomfortable whenever you were around or while speaking to you since you told them what you were. At first, you didn't mind that much, but at a point, you felt that there were supposed to be a couple of changes if you wanted to help him. At the moment you let him be wary of you since the events were pretty recent.

As you finally had your cup of coffee, you walked towards the sofa as you then grabbed another book from your hexagonal shelves. You sat down, legs crossed as you started to read.

Nimh only looked around awkwardly, before looking at Lance. "So... what do you usually do during the day?" He asked before quickly glancing at you. "I mean, I'm pretty sure that you don't just wake up and read magic books all day, do you?"

You glanced at the rabbit for a bit before looking back at the book you were reading. "Usually not. However, it's been a while since I gave away my concoction, so we need to make sure that you have exactly what I think you are having." You said before you put down the book.

You walked towards the hallway, before stopping. Nimh looked curious and nervous at the same time, giving in that his nose was twitching.

"I suggest you to follow me." You simply said before turning around and continuing to walk. You didn't know if they would listen to you, but your worries were soon stopped when you heard the thudding noise of Nimh hopping after you.

You were too focused to even care about the fact that Nimh wouldn't try to ask you any questions, face-to-face.

-*-

As you two walked, Nimh noticed that there was one specific part of the hallway that was covered by darkness. As he realized that he stopped just to look into it, he quickly continued to follow you, too scared to even ask why that part of the house was in complete darkness.

When you stopped, Nimh quickly looked at the door in front of him. It didn't look different from any other door.

"To properly know if you do have that, we need to make a ritual." You explained as you moved your hand to open the door. Nimh gulped as you said that.

"R-rituals?" He asked as he looked inside the room. Upon feeling his nervousness, you looked down at him.

"Don't worry, this is not going to be painful." You said with a calming smile.

Nimh looked even more scared upon hearing that, not really calming down his little rabbit heart.

Lance slapped his face upon hearing you say that, before hopping to your arm.

He didn't want to say anything, curiously waiting about how this misunderstanding caused by you would unfold.

As you walked into the room, as much as Nimh was scared, he couldn't help but be amazed by the room.

It was a neatly tidied-up place even though there were some unknown stains on the walls. Shelves on almost every corner of the room filled up with books or bottles with liquids Nihm was too scared to even ask. But that decision was quick to change the moment he noticed a jar full of bones with a label on the side with the words "Rabbit foot" written on it.

"U-um!" He spoke up, nervous and a bit afraid. "M-my foot probably won't bring good luck to you sadly, s-so-" He tried to explain himself, trying his best to have a brave face and failing miserably with it. As you haven't responded to him yet, he closed his eyes, afraid of what might happen next.

He could only hear a click of the lights, before hearing your voice.

"What are you even talking about?"

He opened his eyes as he met with your confused expression.

"... You won't dissect me to figure that out?" He asked you, afraid of saying something wrong.

"Why would I do that?" You, finally realizing the confusion that happened quickly tried to explain. "I don't think I would do that to someone that I promised to help." You explained, as you walked towards a cord and rolled it up, revealing a window hidden in the ceiling, giving more light to the room.

That's when Nihm finally managed to take a good look at the room. Looking around he noticed the low dent made in the floor, in the center of it was a campfire, with pillows, cushions, and beanbags around it. The campfire looked to be used not that long ago, the ashes still not that hidden, as you walked to a corner of the room to get some wood.

Nihm was amazed at how well it was prepared.

"But I still need to ask for something identifiable from you." You said while walking around the room, gathering up the cauldron and materials for the identification.

Lance, taking notice of how Nihm is looking at you finally butted in. "Maybe you should explain more about what they need to give specifically..." He said, close to your face. " The guy seems to be nervous again."

Looking back, you noticed that he indeed looked nervous.

"Ah... I mean, we need your saliva to be specific. You drank up the water and after that -poof! - You turned into a rabbit, right?" You said while shaking your hands as you said poof. "It's probably still identifiable just by looking at that only." You explained as you added fire under the cauldron and added every ingredient to it.

Nihm seemed to have calmed down as he shyly nodded. "Ok then! Not going to lie... The rabbit foot scared me at first." He explained. As you looked at the jar he mentioned.

"Oh, those old things!" You said as his fear finally made sense to you. "Oh, those are really old, and not even gathered from living ones." You said, chuckling a little bit. "I can't be that cruel to living beings, plus the effect is the same either way." You explained, making Nihm curious.

"Why do you even have a rabbit foot, if I can ask?" Nihm asked as you perked up, smiling at his curiosity.

"Well..." You started to explain while looking back at the cauldron from time to time. "You also hinted at it, but there is an explanation as to why people actually consider rabbit foot to be lucky." You started. "For us, it is important if we want to escape. Sometimes those old bones can have some muscle- or in this case, 'bony' memory of running and hopping away. Just by having this in our inventory and casting a transporting or enhancing magic, we can be quick to escape any sort of danger." You proudly explained as you looked at the bones.

Nihm looked amazed at you before looking at the cauldron. "I still can't believe magic exists... It's as if I hopped into some fantasy book." He said while looking at the cauldron.

You just smiled at him before taking a spoon. "I know it is, but once you... hop into it, believing will be much easier to do." You spoke.

"Now then-" You started as you held the spoon in front of him. "I want you to suck on this."

.

.

.

"E-excuse me?" Nihm looked at you, flustered at how nonchalantly you said it to him. Even Lance seemed to be surprised at your wording.

"I thought it might be better to immediately make contact with it by having your saliva in the spoon as I mix it together, rather than asking you to spit on it." You said, not really noticing the awkward atmosphere you just created.

Nihm looked nervous before sighing and taking the spoon from you. You continued to look back at the cauldron, not really minding the dirty looks that Lance was making towards you, even though everyone in the room was clearly able to tell that he was directing it towards you.

"... You really are something else." He said to you, as you finally looked at him, confused.

As you retrieved the spoon from Nihms little paws, you started to mix the things inside the cauldron.

In just seconds, the cauldron started to bubble, slowly making the room louder and louder by the second, before as soon as it started it just diminished. Both Lance and Nihm looked at it in amazement as you softly smiled at their reaction. You leaned closer to the concoction as you smelled it. Then you looked at the steam of the boiling concoction.

"Scent of daffodils... Steam more or less heavier than usual..." You murmured to yourself as you looked around only to stop for a second before looking back at Nihm. "Yep, it's the concoction of mine that you've been affected."

"Oh, well that was... quicker than expected!" Nihm looked surprised, while you could only look at the individual floating on the other side of the cauldron.

"Well... let's just say, it doesn't take that much to figure it out... if someone specific wouldn't be floating among us." You said as you looked intently at the individual at hand. The room felt heavier as you two just stared at each other...

-*-

"... What are you looking at?" Lance asked, finally breaking the silence that you had been holding, as you looked at him for a while. Moving your hand to rub your temples, you groaned.

"That's right... I forgot you can't easily see these things..." You stated and with that, you went to grab something from a shelf nearby. Coming back, it seems as if you got something that looks like eye drops.

You bent down and looked at Lance, patting a cushion that was next to you. "Come here."

With that, he hopped close to you and waited patiently. You looked down at him nervously as you said. "This might sting." With that, you put some drops in his eyes, making him immediately close his eyes and hide them under his hands.

You looked down at him worriedly before turning to Nihm. "Would you..." You got silent as you looked in front of you, focusing on something or someone that Nihm clearly couldn't see.

"Nevermind..." You softly said, before looking back at Lance.

Upon finally getting through the stinging pain of the eye drops he blinks a few times only to be met with the sight of a red panda-looking creature floating next to you cursing at you.

"You evil witch/wizard! You should stop what you are doing right now, you-" The yelling continued for a while as you felt annoyed by the second.

"Is..." Lance looked at the creature in shock, before looking back at you. He continued to whisper from that on. "Is that a..."

"A spirit? Yeah, it is." You whispered it back to him before the nervous voice of Nihm could be heard.

"U-um... What is it?" He nervously asked. You looked at him, seeing his nervousness which it didn't come as a surprise; you just said that there was something, and only to him you haven't revealed it. You knew you couldn't escape from it, since you were about to give him eye drops as well before the red panda-like spirit stopped you.

"Oh, it just flew away when I gave Lance the drops!" You awkwardly said as you pushed him out of the room. "Anyway, you look scared, so why not you just go and relax in the living room? Ok?" You continued to push him out as he tried to ask for more, you not giving him the chance to protest closed the door in front of him.

"Flew away? I'm not a coward, you know???" You looked at the creature as he looked at you seriously.

You finally could look at him with the expression you wanted to look at him: a frown.

"You have 10 seconds to explain who you are and why are you here." You looked at him seriously.

The spirit could only back up a little from the shock before he returned with his demanding tone.

"I came here to stop you from helping them! You were the cause of all of this, you don't have the chance to redeem yourself!" He stated as he pointed at you.

Lance could only look at him in shock as he turned to look at you nervously. He was afraid of the reaction you would do as he made his statement of redemption.

You looked down, before your frown turned even colder by the second, making Lance and the red panda spirit almost jump out of fear.

"... That wasn't the first thing I asked for. Who. Are. you?" You asked him more coldly now.

The red panda looked at you with a faltering serious face as he continued.

"I'm not going to tell my name to someone who would easily curse me just by knowing that!"

At this point, you looked colder than ice as he continued. "One last chance."

He, without being aware of his surroundings just continued. "As I said, I won't say my name to an evil witch/wizard like you!"

"Wrong answer." With that, he finally noticed your looming voice as he turned around to be met with your cold expression, covered by the shadow.

.

.

-*-

"Let go of me you-!" He was cursing you out as you looked at his form, trapped inside the jar you took as he was rambling.

Lance looked at you worried as you looked at the spirit with piercing eyes.

"You, ok?" You snapped back into reality as you heard Lance's worried tone. You turned to him as you looked at him with a neutral face.

"I'm fine-"

"We both know it's not true.' He looked at you, as he both tried to state the obvious and tried to reassure you. You could only smile at him painfully petting him with one finger, appreciating him saying that.

The red panda could only look at you two in confusion as you walked with him to the living room.

There you saw Nihm, facing out as he was sitting on the bean bag. You looked at him with a worried expression before putting down Lance.

"Hey! Put me down too!!!" The spirit said as you walked with him towards the kitchen.

"Do you want tea?" You asked Nihm, snapping him out of his daze.

"O-o-oh! Yeah, tea sounds nice!" He responded as you smiled at him.

"Hellllooo! Are you really ignoring me now?" The spirit continued to pester you, even in its little containment.

"Great! Jasmine, Oolong...?" You tried to name the different teas that you owned, hoping that you might pique his interest.

"U-um... maybe something calming?" He asked hopefully.

"Ok, then chamomile it is." You said as you got a package of chamomile tea before going to get the water.

By this point, the red panda was fuming but still watched your every move. You sighed as he finally stopped talking, calmly continuing to make the tea.

-*-

As you were in the kitchen, an unknown awkwardness surged in the living room. Lance was looking towards where the kitchen was, while Nihm awkwardly fumbled with his paws.

"Sooo..." Nihm finally broke the silence. "Can I know what was the thing that both of you saw?" Lance looked at him surprised.

"Oh! That... well..." Lance looked thoughtful, before looking to the door leading to the kitchen. "... There was something... and there still is something..." He started before annoyingly cleaning his face with his front legs. "Ugh! Let's just say Y/N has a reason why they didn't show, or better yet, tell you." He said annoyed before looking back to the door.

Nihm looked nervously at him. "O-oh!"

Upon hearing his tone, Lance sighed. "I don't..." He sighed before looking at Nihm.

"Just... don't think the worst of them." He finally said it out loud as he looked at Nihm.

Nihm looked at him confused as he looked towards the kitchen door.

-*-

The tea time went silently as you sometimes had a little chat with Lance. Nihm just looked at you two intently, as did the red panda spirit. Afterwards, your day went as smoothly as it could in a household as chaotic as yours.

Up until the night came.

You already have a cozy room for Nihm to stay for a while, since he is at the size where he can't reach or twist the doorknob of his place. Both he and Lance were fast asleep as you were in your room, looking down at the jar in front of you.

You have been staring at each other for a while now. With each minute that passed, the red panda's expression seemed different. Always suspicious of you, though sometimes confusion was painted on his face.

"... You won't say anything to me?" You asked him as you were laying your head on your hand while cross-sitting. You were beyond tired now, since it was past midnight and now your main task was to know about your little intruder.

He just stared at you angrily, his nose scrunched up before turning away from you. "Why would I answer you, if you won't release me either way." He grumpily said to you as you sighed. You then went to grab the lid and hold it firmly.

"At least tell me, why do you think I shouldn't be the one who helps the guys?" You asked him tiredly.

"Cause-" "And don't pull me that crap about 'cause I'm not worthy of redemption or something." You said to him seriously. "I don't need another person besides myself to remind me that." You mumbled to yourself, making him look confused at you since he didn't hear it.

He looked at you for a while before looking away with a pout. "Because it was supposed to be the task of the one who switched the waters to help them, instead of you." He said to you, as you looked at him, processing what he said.

"Wait, wait..." You said as you rubbed your temples while slowly grabbing the lid, and opening it. "You are telling me, that you also think they should have taken responsibility for what they did?" You asked as you looked at him.

"Well of course-" He stopped as he finally processed what you said, dashing to get in front of your face, making you back off a little, cause he was inches away from you. "YOU think so too??"

"Yeah! I think they also are the blame, after all, they switched the waters. The least they could do is-" You started before both of you finished the sentence in unison. "Help them turn back!"

"Exactly! Instead of taking them to me!" You said as you pointed at him, and he in return nodded eagerly.

"Yes! Cause you are the sole reason this curse exists!" He said eagerly as you looked at him dumbfounded. You looked at him silently before putting a thumbs up at it.

"I think I can work with just that insult!" You said, pain written in your expression.

He finally realized to who he talked so eagerly before backing away. "Why did you say that like that?" He asked you suspiciously.

"Cause I know you will continue bothering me if I don't say this; would you make a deal with me?" You asked him softly. He looked at you surprised before looking into your eyes, which looked sincere.

"And why would I accept a deal with a (she-)devil like you?" He asked you, distrust clear in his voice.

"Because both of us will gain from it." You started. "We both will search for whoever made this, and find a way together to make them rethink their actions, finally helping in this. While that, it is my responsibility to take care of them, how about it?" You asked him as you reached your hand out for him for a handshake.

He hesitated before looking into your eyes once again. As it shone with determination he sighed before accepting your hand. "Fine, deal. But don't think we are buddy buddies now!" He said to you, which made you chuckle.

"I haven't thought about it. Since I'm pretty sure you hate me." You said with a sincere smile.

He flew towards your open window before stopping.

"Q-bae."

"Huh?" You looked at him confused as he said that.

"My name is Q-bae. The answer to your previous question." Said Q-bae before quickly flying away. For him, it was shocking and unbelievable that he trusted you so easily, and that made him frustrated.

You looked at where he flew away until only a spot was visible from him as you chuckled and yawned, finally going to sleep.

You looked around your room as you spotted Lance sleeping peacefully, his front legs tugged under his face and his back legs under his tummy. He was indeed, the frog loaf.

You chuckled softly as you thought about that, before looking back to the window and slowly closing it. You then tucked yourself into your bed, finally succumbing to your tiredness.

Today was indeed, a tiring day.
