Chapter 6

How the hell did I go from being 'incredible' to someone she didn't want to talk to at all? Whenever I see that idiot she'll run away... does she think I hate her...? Dumbass... Er- maybe it's because I called her things like that- what else have I done...? Let's see I've pushed her around, and I may have bonked at her head- oh my god. Lloyd Walker was quietly thinking to himself over things that he had done to Maebelle Evans in order to make her run away from him.

The male sighed and fell flat on his back on the side of his bed, laying his arm over his face. Y'know what. It's fine. I've been annoyed with her before... I'll just act like I am again. But for a longer time period.

"Well I know I can't necessarily decide this, but... I'm making today your birthday...! Happy Birthday, Lloyd...! I promise, next year it will be much more exciting!" Idiot. "I was just focused on you." Idiot... "It means I know I'm brave." He removed his arm from his forehead, and had a calming expression in his eyes. She was one dumb, but brave girl. ...She's suffered so much...but is so brave...

"Nope. Stop it." Lloyd whispered to himself. "Because you know what is going to happen if you continue thinking like this... the people that wronged her will... start showin' up in your head..."

"Then there will be even more blood on your hands..." The light green eyed male said.

Damn it! No! Not right now! I should take a walk! I'll just get a soda or something. He thought before standing up and grabbing some change he had on the table.

~

"I'm such a horrible human being!" A certain raven haired female thought, thinking over the past few days about how unpleasant she's been.

I call this man my first friend and yet I keep running away from him...! How terrible could I be?! The girl thought.

"Maebelle, are you okay? You look pale." Her mother questioned.

The Evans family was sitting at the dinner table eating, and for once it was quiet, well until the mother had spoken up.

"Umm y-yes... I-I'm... fine..." Maebelle whispered, looking down at her food. "J-Just not that hungry..."

"Probably thinking about how she's going to be sneaking out tonight." Kyle had said.

"Sneaking out...?" The mother, Cassandra, had asked, raising an eyebrow.

Maebelle choked. No, she hadn't necessarily 'snuck out' of the house. But, sometimes she was out later than usual at some points to hang out with Lloyd.

"I don't remember Maebelle doing anything bad. If anything she's the most well behaved child we've had." The father, Travis, had said.

The other three children looked offended before smirking. "Y'know Maebelle, has been hanging out with someone sometimes!" Audrey spoke up.

H-How did they know?! The blue eyed young woman thought shocked as sweat creased her eyebrow.

"She has?" Her mother asked.

"Oh, does that mean she finally made a friend? That's good." Her father added.

"Yeah! In the mornings! Sometimes in the afternoons too we'll see her talking with this guy-" One of her brother's got cut off.

"Oh. A guy?" Cassandra inquired. Both parents then looked at the young adult, who was still staring down at her food.

I'm going to actually kill them. The eighteen year old raven haired young woman thought.

"Maebelle? Were you going to sneak out of the house to go see a guy?" The father asked.

"No." Maebelle looked up at them. "And I never snuck out of the house beforehand either... I don't know why these three would say that." She gave them a subtle glare, before looking back at her parents. "Besides that... I'm an adult, I should be allowed to hang out with whoever I want... but since I'm such a good child, I stay under this roof after dark..." The blue eyed young adult explained. That was a lot of talking...

"You're an adult?" Travis accidentally let his thoughts slip.

Both parents looked at each other quietly for a moment. The whole table went silent, since they knew what happened.

Ah, that's why they never said anything... Maebelle thought, her eyes darkening.

"..Please tell me... you didn't forget about me..." she started "you thought work, and District rules were more important than your own child...?" no one spoke up, so she knew the answer.

The young woman felt worthless, and so sick to her stomach, she quickly fled out the door, not tolerating the thought of staying in her own house right now, so she thought of the only place she had left to go.

"M-Maebelle, wait!" Her mother stood up and called out for her, yet the daughter was already too far long out the door.

~

"Ah, thought I sensed someone here." The male was leaning on the vending machine, looking at the raven haired female who was crying on one of the benches next to it.

Mae was about to get up and run again, but the male grabbed her wrist and pulled her down, sitting down next to her. "C'mon... knowing you, your sight's all blurry and you're going to trip and fall on the ground, scratch yourself, and cry more because of that."

"...Mhm..." Mae nodded. "...Why are you here... though...?" The blue eyed young woman asked in between sobs. "...I thought you hated me...?"

Ah, so my intuition was right. The green eyed male thought. "Why would you think that?" Lloyd asked.

"Because of that weird thing I said..." she sniffled. "...That's why... I kept running away... sorry about that... by the way..." the girl mumbled, wiping her eyes with the back of her hands.

The white haired male laughed a little. "Did you do that because you didn't know how to talk with me after what you said?"

"...Mhm..." she mumbled with a nod.

"Is that why you're crying now?" He asked, she shook her head. "Then why are you crying?"

"'She's the most well behaved child we've had'!" Mae slammed her fists on the bench. "How stupid!" Well I wasn't expecting that... Lloyd thought. "My parents forgot about me... to sum it up." The blue eyed female said in between small cries.

The young woman then froze, still sniffling a little. "W-Wait a second...? Why are you here? I'm sure it's definitely not because you 'sensed' me." The dark haired young woman questioned.

"Oh. I just wanted a soda. Now things have become interesting." The whisper white haired male answered.

"'Interesting' a.k.a something you want to laugh at later. Just... go ahead and laugh at it now..." she sniffled, putting her arms and legs up to her chest.

"You're so stupid." Lloyd said, taking off his jacket, putting it over her head. "You're in thin pajamas during the end of January, you're going to catch a cold, you know that, right?"

"W-Why'd you put it over my head...?" Mae asked, a bit confused. Isn't it the shoulders or something...?

"Because people are going to see your eyes that are all red and puffy, and you don't want that now do you?" The male asked.

"...No..." The raven haired girl mumbled.

His green eyes showed he was being smug. "But if anyone does end up seeing you and starts laughing at you. I'll make sure to tell them to 'go away'."

The female rolled her blue eyes before smiling. "Okay... yeah..."

After a few moments of awkwardly clearing things up they decided to call it a night and she gave him back his jacket and was about to head home. Although Lloyd was now a bit confused.

"Huh? Hey? Where are you going?" The white haired male asked.

"Huh?" The raven haired girl asked, turning to him.

"You're still upset with your family right? I don't like seeing people cry, especially people I find 'okay,' so..." he said, scratching the back of his head.

"Hm...?" Mae raised an eyebrow.

"God, you're so irritating. I'm telling you to spend the night at my apartment." Lloyd said, sighing in annoyance.

"Yeah, I knew that, I just wanted to hear you say it." The young woman giggled.

"Y'know what. I'm leaving you here..." The male grumbled, turning around and walking ahead.

"...Thank you..." she whispered with a small smile before following and catching up to him.

~

"Just go to bed." The young male said once they got to his apartment.

"Okay...!" Was all she replied with before laying on the floor.

"Not on the floor!" Lloyd yelled.

"Huh? What do you mean?" Mae asked.

This is going to be a rough night. "Take the bed." The whisper white haired male replied. The dark haired female shook her head. "What do you mean, no?"

"It's yours. I shouldn't take what's yours..." The girl answered.

"Just use it." Lloyd said, picking her up and throwing her onto the bed.

"Eep!" Mae yelled. "Y-You can't just do that to a person...!"

"Well I did it and it's done, good night." He said.

"Wait... but where are you going to sleep?" She asked.

"I'm going to sleep on the floor." The green eyed male said straightforwardly.

"No, you can't! Sleep in bed with me!" Mae said, grabbing his arm.

Lloyd put his hand on his head, his face turning red. Oh my god. "You know you really should think about your phrasing."

"Huh...? Why? I can sleep on the bottom half and you can sleep on the top with the pillow in between if you'd like. What's wrong with that...?" The blue eyed young woman explains.

"Oh." Is all he replied with. I think I'm just too... explicit for my own good...

~

I don't know why... but I'm too tired to sleep... it's a weird thought huh...? Mae thought, looking at the wall.

God I can't sleep knowing there's a nineteen year old girl in my bed. Lloyd thought, putting his arm over his head.

"Hey... Lloyd... are you up...?" She asked.

"Y-Yeah... What's up...?" He asked.

"Why did you change the subject and not laugh when I said you could... you had every right too..." Mae said.

Hm. "Simple. Because I was in your position before. Except, I handled it much worse." The male explained.

"Handled it... much worse...?" She asked, looking over at him.

"Thought you weren't one to pry?" Still looking at his arm.

"...Sorry..." she said, looking back over at the wall.

"Hey, Mae?" Lloyd seemed to want to ask her another thing.

"Y-Yeah, Lloyd." She answered.

"Tomorrow, you don't have class, right?" The whisper white haired male questioned.

"No, I don't. Since it's the weekend... Why do you ask?" The young woman inquired.

"Because I think you should rip off these bandages and face your family again. If you're still upset with them... Just... Come live with me then." The male froze. No... I didn't... just say that last line, please tell me I didn't.

"Eh?" Mae looked over at him, surprised. "Seriously? But laws are-"

"You really care about laws even after what you said." He laughed.

"Y-You know that was a joke...!" She said, her face turning red.

"I know, I know." He said. Oh thank god, I'm glad that was a joke...!

So after a night of pretty much Lloyd teasing the dark haired female, they were both able to fall asleep.

~

Hmm... should I? Lloyd was at the end of the bed looking at Mae. But then again she does look peaceful when she sleeps.

Heh, y'know what fuck it, I'm bored, and I like teasing her. Lloyd got close to her ear and whispered "Hey Maebelle-"

"OW! FUCK! Why do you headbutt so fucking hard?!" He asked, rubbing his head.

"You thought whispering in my ear to wake me up was a good idea...?" She asked as a retort, rubbing her head.

"Okay. Good reply. I'll think about it." He asked.

The young woman let out a sigh. "And I thought younger siblings were hard to deal with..." she whispered. Ah, younger siblings... I have to rip off these bandages today huh...

"Hey? Did you knock something out of your head when you headbutted me?" Lloyd asked, tapping her forehead.

"O-Oh no. Just thinking about things." Mae explained, taking his hands off her head with a small weak smile on her face.

The light green eyed male pinched at the blue eyed young woman's cheek and pulled it a bit. "Ow!" She yelled. "I thought I told you not to do this...!"

"And I never said I would stop, I just said I would think about it." The white haired male laughed. "Now, c'mon, let's go."

"Y-Yeah... right." The raven haired female said, a bit nervous. How will my family react after seeing me? With that big scene I made... and I don't even know how to feel with them after they've forgotten some things about me...work and District Rules become more important than their own child... it's just upsetting...

"Hm? What's up?" He asked, he was outside and she was still standing inside. "Do you not feel like going?"

"No... it's not that it's... how...?" The dark haired young woman started.

"Hm, how what? You really need to learn how to spit out your words." Lloyd said, a bit annoyed.

"How will everything be after this? If my family accepts me... if I accept them... or if they don't and I don't... then... how will everything be...?" Mae asked.

"Simple answer. That's for you to decide." The male said.

"Huh?" The female said, her blue eyes were widened, a bit surprised by his answer.

"How you choose to live your life is your decision, no one else's. If you want to continue being a doll, go ahead. Be a doll. I won't stop you." The green eyed male said with a shrug.

"I don't. I want to make up with my family, but I also want to be able to have my say in the household, and be remembered by them too." Mae explained.

"You shouldn't be telling me this, who should you be telling this too?" The male asked.

Mae smirked a little. "You're right, I should be explaining this to my family. Sorry, I got excited." The girl said, exiting the room.

She seems like a new person... He thought. It's... intriguing... but... I don't want to say I'm done playing around... not yet... Lloyd closed the apartment door and locked it.
