Chapter 5
"Oh... that's where I got this weird deja vu feeling..." Maebelle whispered. She took a paper off of the pole at the grocery store, rolled it up and shoved it in her purse.
"Sis! C'mon! Stop staring at that pole and get over here!" Her younger sister called out, dropping the grocery bags she was holding on the ground.
Maebelle looked back and nodded before letting out a light sneeze "Achoo" Geez it's already January... How long has that paper been up... and how come I never noticed it...? I guess it's because I'm stupid and it was on the opposite side of where I enter and exit... The raven haired young woman thought before heading towards her siblings.
"Why were you staring at a blank pole, you weirdo?" Her long raven haired younger sister, Audrey asked her. Maebelle shook her head so as to not worry about it.
"I saw... something..." Maebelle said.
"What was it?!" Her one identical straight raven haired eight year old younger twin brother, Carter asked, curiously.
"Yeah, yeah, what was it?!" The other identical eight year old twin messy raven haired brother, Kyle asked, just as curious. Both twins had wide dark gray eyes, while Audrey had dark blue like her. All three were staring up at her.
How am I related to all of them...? The oldest Evans child thought.
"...I'll tell you about it later... can we please just go home... I don't feel good..." Maebelle whispered her lie, trying to get her little siblings off her back.
"Hm you're mean~! That's what mom says!" Audrey yelled, picking up the bags and starting to walk away.
...Good... at least they stopped nagging me about it and started walking home... I'll have to ask him about this next time I see him... The girl thought.
~
Fuck! It's this cold already! Well it is January so I can't say much I guess... All I want to do is get some food... get some food... Now that I think about it- does that grocery store still have my 'WANTED' poster up? The whisper white haired male walked in between different alleyways in the Poor District to the Rich District just to get out of the police officer's sight. He did NOT want to get caught, especially with all the recent stuff that's been going on... He had a mischievous look in his light green eyes. How was she able to be so dense for this long?
HUH?! It's not there anymore?! Lloyd was a little bit outside the alleyway when he saw the poster was no longer on the pole. There's no way it would've just vanished! But... maybe... AND I'M HOPING the wind was strong enough to blow it away...? Yeah. Let's go with that. Oh geez, why does my stomach hurt...? Probably because I'm hungry... yeah, let's go with that... he thought, before walking back into the alleyway, making sure no one saw him.
~
"So... I've been meaning to ask," Lloyd starts, "What do you have in that purse of yours?" They were sitting next to each other on the usual benches, and Mae turned her head and looked at her blue purse that was to the left of her, while the male was on the right.
Lloyd pulled down his mask and took a sip of his soda can, "Oh... what girls in the Rich District usually have, you know... a wallet... an ID card... and oh yeah, your 'WANTED' poster."
The young male choked, dropping the can making a 'clink' sound as it hit the bench. He stood up, pulling his black mask up and backing away a few inches.
"W-W-What the fuck did you just tell me...?!" He asked, his green eyes widened.
Mae stood up, seeming completely unfazed, she took out the paper and unrolled it, staring at him. "That's your name, right? Lloyd Walker? You're a criminal?"
So I guess that's where the grocery store poster went. The green eyed male thought, sweat creasing his brow. "I-"
"Please, don't try to fool me... I know I'm dense, but I can tell when there's a lie. And I can tell this is you..." she said, pointing at the image.
They were both silent, still staring at each other. He then let out a sigh, the male then shook his hands in the air with little care, showing little excitement. "Okay... ya' caught me... I'm a criminal. What are you going to do? Run away? Turn me in?"
"That's really..." She started, trying to think of the correct term, before walking up to him.
"INCREDIBLE!" The raven haired female exclaimed, her blue eyes looked like they sparkled.
"Wait... hold on, what? Repeat that, but quieter." The whisper white haired male said, pushing her away from him.
"I said 'incredible'." The dark haired girl said with a smile, Lloyd backed away some more.
"Are you okay? Like, mentally?" He asked. I swear the classmate bullying drove this girl insane...
"Mhm...!" She nodded, as she walked up closer to him.
"Please get away from me, you have a screw loose or something, I swear!" He said. Geez, y'know what. Last resort!
~
"Ow...! That hurt..." Mae said, rubbing her head, getting teary eyed, he had obviously bonked her on the head.
"Your fault for getting close to me when I obviously didn't want you too." Lloyd said, drinking his soda, like he did nothing wrong. He also was able to get the poster from her (due to her weak strength-)
"I'm sorry, I won't do it again..." the raven haired female said, continuing to rub her head.
"Tch... why the hell did you say me being a criminal was 'incredible' anyways?" He asked, pulling up his mask.
She took her hands off her head, and looked over to him. "B-Because in the books... the starting criminal just sometimes turns out to be the good guy, you know...?"
The good guy...? "I hate to break it to you 'Princess,' but we're not in those little books of yours." He said.
"I-I know that... I've known that for a bit..." She mumbled. "But just because that paper and people say bad things about you. I don't think you're bad at all... sure, I don't know what you've done, and I don't want to pry about it... these past few months I thought of you as a fun, and great person Lloyd..." She gave him a genuine smile.
The white haired male looked away from the raven haired female and blushed. "W-Why do you always have such stupid things like that to say...?"
"Stupid...?! I put my heart into that...!" The girl replied, her expression was shocked.
He looked back at her. "No... That's not what I meant... remember when I said you make me feel dumb?" She nodded. "Well that's my response because... I feel like an idiot right now." He said, putting a head in his hand.
"Huh? But... you're not?" The dark haired girl said, a bit confused.
"I know... I know... but you're a bold and brave girl to be able to say something like that to a man." Lloyd said, looking back at her.
"I am?" She looked at him surprised, before smiling. "Thank you...! That really made me happy... especially hearing it from you...!"
"Oh god, why, because I'm a criminal." He said, rubbing his forehead, annoyed.
"No... because you're my friend... I think...?" She laughed.
How stupid... The male had a calming look in his eyes.
"Here." He sighed. "Give me your phone."
"I don't have one." She replied, which caused him to raise an eyebrow.
"What do you mean 'you don't have one'? Aren't you supposed to be rich?" Lloyd asked.
"The first day I got a phone Kristina and Angelica broke it and threw it into a pond by our school, and I just never bothered to get another one." Mae explained.
Glad I broke their's. He thought with a mischievous look in his eyes.
"What are you thinking about...?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Nothing, don't worry about it." He replied.
His eyes flickered as soon as he said 'nothing'... but I don't really want to pry- Ah wait- The blue eyed young woman's eyes widened.
"Were you going to add my number-?" She asked, surprised and she covered her mouth as soon as her thoughts became vocal. "S-Sorry, I didn't mean to ask that..."
"It's alright. 'Cause I was." The white haired male said straightforwardly.
"Huh? Really?" The raven haired female was astonished.
"You act like this is the first time this has ever happened." They stayed silent for a moment. "Please don't tell me I'm the first friend you've ever made." They stayed silent for another moment. "You truly are hopeless..."
"I know... but I'm just not... good with people...!" Mae explained.
God... I mean I guess I can tell... since she thinks me being a criminal is the coolest thing in the world after all. The male thought as sweat creased his brow.
"Also wait... why do you have a phone? Aren't criminals supposed to stay 'off the grid' or something like that?" She asked.
"I removed some stuff from my phone so the cops couldn't catch me. To put it in simple terms." The green eyed male says with a shrug.
"Oh..." Mae then put on a serious look. "Hey, what if I told you..."
That doesn't seem good... Lloyd lifted an eyebrow again. "Told me what? C'mon spit it out."
"...My parents were working as cops..." she said.
"Huh?" The male replied wide eyed.
"...pfft." The blue eyed girl covered her mouth, giggling.
~
"I said, I was sorry...!" She cried, rubbing her head again.
"Maebelle fucking Evans you are not funny!" Lloyd said. "I thought you were serious!"
"I know! I know! I won't do it again!" The young woman continued to rub her head,
"Now I see how you're not good with people! It's because you joke about things like this!" He said, the green eyed male then let out an annoyed sigh. "Tell me what your parents actually do for a living so I don't go bat-shit crazy again."
"My mom is a nurse and my dad is an orthodontist. So when I'm not with you or at class I take care of stuff at home..." She explains.
Lloyd took a deep breath, and tried to calm down the best he could. "Don't you have three younger siblings...? Must be hectic..."
"Yep... I wish I could be in my 'little books of mine' and then everything would be okay... well for the most part at least." The blue eyed girl said with a weak laugh.
"'Most part'?" He repeated.
"Because... sometimes the books get violent... and I don't want to die... but sometimes... I hear people say things about me... that makes me think 'should I want to jump into those types of books?'...?" She brought her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them.
"If you don't mind me asking... What do they say?" He asked, a glare in his eyes seemed like it was about to show.
"'That Evans girl, how stupid she is.' 'That Evans girl, how easy she is to hit and kick.' 'Maebelle Evans, maybe we can manipulate her?' 'Maebelle Evans she looks cute, but that's her only good quality.' Y'know... things like that..." she said, looking at him with a weak smile.
"Hey, Mae, do me a favor." He said, running a hand through his hair and shaking his head a bit.
"Huh? What is it." The dark haired young woman asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Please, don't ever go down the same road I did. Continue being a good girl." The whisper white haired male says, patting her head.
Oh... The young woman thought, "but... what if I want to become a criminal with you?" The raven haired female said.
~
"'what if I want to become a criminal with you?' That girl is an absolute idiot!' Was all he thought about that night. What's worse is she doesn't know what he's done!
He ran his hands over his face. God this made him so nervous. The girl was so, so innocent to the world, and yet she said this to him... oh god! Y'know what he needed sleep and hopefully when he woke up the raven haired young woman wouldn't be in jail. Oh god he hopes not. (But he feels there's a 25% chance she might be)
"what if I want to become a criminal with you" YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE IDIOT! FIRST YOU LIE ABOUT YOUR AGE AND NOW YOU'LL TELL HIM YOU'LL BREAK THE LAW WITH HIM WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! Right now the blue eyed young woman was laying on her bed internally screaming at herself for saying such a thing, why, WHY would she do that? She wonders!
JUST BECAUSE HE'S YOUR ONLY FRIEND DOES NOT MEAN YOU BREAK THE LAW YOU'RE SO STUPID! WAH...! I KNOW! Maebelle slammed her face in her pillow, kicking at her bed.
Oh gosh... and after I said that... he decided that "we should part for today" so... I wonder... would "today" mean that he never wants to see me again...? The female turned around, biting the nail of her thumb thinking, worriedly.
