Chapter 18
It was quiet.
The time was close to night at this point.
Maebelle Evans and Lloyd Walker were standing across from each other, mid October winds blowing across them.
"Mae, if we're going to be a messy couple... I want to tell you the stuff about me that you should've known..." were the words Lloyd had said five minutes ago.
Mae had two responses in mind. ARE YOU CRAZY?! since the young woman was not one to pry, and YES, YES, YES! Since she's also been very curious about him for the entire time she has known him.
"If you don't want to know-" The male had quickly been cut off.
"No, it's not that!" The blue eyed female waved her hands in front of him.
"Then why haven't you said anything for the past ten minutes!" The green eyed male yelled.
"It's just because...I really don't know how to respond to something like that...!" The raven haired girl said. "Would you? Saying you'll tell your entire background to someone out of the blue."
"I mean, I guess not." The male sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "But... I guess... there's something in the back of my mind saying I can trust you enough to tell you all of this."
Her blue eyes widened in surprise, before she smiled a little. "I told you this before-"
"That you trusted me too. Yeah, I know." The green eyed male said. "This is why I think it's only fair to tell you all of this then to keep you in the dark."
The female slowly nodded. "...O-Okay... so what did you want to tell me first...?" The raven haired girl asked.
"Well, first I think I should take off my face mask." Lloyd said, and she nodded again. The male slowly lifted his hands up to the black face mask that covered what was hidden on his lips and pulled it off. "Well...?"
Mae's blue eyes widened, but not from fear, but from surprise. "Lloyd..."
On the left side of Lloyd's pale lips had scars from what looked like a knife.
"Are you going to run?" He asked. "Feel free, you have every right too-" the green eyed male hadn't even realized the dark haired young woman had walked up to him. Now, he was frozen, and Mae's thumb was on his scars.
"O-Oh...!" The female immediately took her hand away. "Sorry! Did that hurt?!" This was probably the most guilty Mae had ever looked since Lloyd had met her.
"No, dummy, that didn't hurt, I was just surprised, that's all." The whisper white haired male said with a small smile.
Ah... Now, it was her turn to freeze.
"What's up?" Lloyd asked.
"This is the first time I've ever seen you smile." Mae explained. "You always had the mask, so I was never able to see it." She said with a joyful tone.
"And why do you seem so happy about it?" The green eyed male inquired.
"Because it's nice." The raven haired girl grinned. "You shouldn't wear the mask, I mean-" she cut herself off, her face turning red. "You don't need to wear it when I'm around."
That caused Lloyd to laugh a little. "I'll get into that."
"Into that...?" Alright, then let's sit down, it's going to be a long night, I'm guessing." The female said, and he nodded, both sitting down on the benches. The male sighed.
"I guess I'll start with how I think I know your mother, Cassandra Evans. When I first met you and you told me your name, and I also saw your hair color I recalled something in the back of my mind that my mom always talked about." Lloyd said. "It was this woman, Cassandra Evans."
"Wait...? What? How does your mom know mine?" Mae asked, raising an eyebrow.
"According to my mother she couldn't make it to a hospital in time, but there was a woman studying to be a nurse that could help." The male explained.
"...That woman was..." The dark haired female started quietly.
"Your mom apparently." Then the whisper white haired male finished for her.
"But your poor mother... Where was your father?" The young woman quietly asked.
"Hell if I know, probably off somewhere not giving a damn..." there was a glare in his green eyes, which Mae somehow knew what it meant. She saw it before. The raven haired girl put a hand on his shoulder, and he sighed and the glare was gone, "but at some point he came back after about 7-8 years? There was a blonde girl with him as well." He said. "And I assume you know who that blonde girl is-" The male got cut off by the blue eyed female.
What...? "What the hell?! Who does that?!" The raven haired girl yelled.
"Huh?" Lloyd was surprised by her outburst.
"Who leaves a woman alone to raise a child for that many years?! Then not only that?! Brings another one into the house!" The blue eyed young woman yelled.
"Calm down, Makayla wasn't related or anything." And thank god for it. The male says, rolling his green eyes.
"It doesn't matter if she's related to you or not! That man is sickening and Makayla is gross too even if she was a child or not!" Mae yelled.
"Yeah... well... it gets worse..." Lloyd mumbled. "My mother, being the nice woman she was, let's them stay, hoping to rebuild the bridges she once had with that man."
"I got pushed, and pushed, and pushed, until my mom couldn't watch anymore. She yelled for that man to stop pressing me over my limits... and he had Makayla shoot her multiple times through the stomach, she's at the hospital now in a coma... but she's under the last name 'Hansen.' Then he cuts the left side of my lip at the age of ten yelling 'really having a bullshit mother stand up for you?!"' Mocking 'his father's' angered voice. "It's the reason why I wear that stupid fucking mask! To cover that ugly fucking scar on my FUCKING face!" He yelled, punching the bench, most likely putting a dent in it.
Lloyd looked over to Mae, and he could tell she was thinking. How could anyone do something so cruel?
"...And one day when neither he or Makayla were paying attention... I stabbed that man in the back, once, then twice, then three times, killing that garbage of a man." The male said.
"However, Makayla sees and tells on me, like the little shit she is and gets away with everything she's done, and everyone thinks my mom is dead, and they blame me." He said.
What...? I didn't see any flicker... but unless he was really good at hiding it... he really does seem to care for his mother... Mae thought. "...That's not fair..."
"Yeah, I know, but oh well. I learned the tough way that life isn't fair." The white haired male said with a shrug.
Lloyd really suffered and all I did was... Mae glanced to the side, feeling very guilty. "...I-I'm sorry...!" The blue eyed girl yelled.
"H-Huh...?" The male asked, very confused.
"I just selfishly complained about my life when I never knew about your's! Then I made you relive your childhood! I'm so sorry!" The dark haired female yelled.
The male sighed and pinched her pale face again. "Ow- stop!" The young woman yelled.
"Do you know why I didn't tell you about my childhood?" The green eyed male asked.
"...Because you would know I would react this way...?" She questioned.
"Smart girl." The white haired male nodded, letting go of her face. "Now, c'mon that woman probably isn't there anymore." Lloyd said, standing up and stretching.
"Um-" no, never mind... The blue eyed young woman had another question on her mind when standing up, but decided to hold off on that for now.
"You were going to ask why I usually refer to Makayla Campbell as 'that woman' and Julius Walker as 'that man' weren't you?" The light green eyed male asked, which made the blue eyed female give a look of surprise. "I told you I'm intuitive, and I know you best." However the raven haired female didn't say anything, she just nodded. "Alright, well, as you know he's a shit dad so I don't think I should call him father or dad, don't you think?"
"No..." Mae replied.
"And that woman is pretty shitty as well, she comes into someone's house, almost kills their mother, do you really think they deserve a name in their mind?" The white haired young male asked.
"No..." The girl gave the same reply.
This is how the whole 'disgusting' thing started hmm... The female thought, looking at the ground. Ah, wait... there's something else I want to know too...
"Lloyd... Do you remember last February... when you found out I was in high school...?" Mae asked.
"Yeah? That's kind of hard to forget about. What about it?" The male said, looking at her.
"Remember when I told you, I wanted to seem 'more adult' to you, and you said you mentioned the same words to someone else...? Was that person Julius Walker?" The girl questioned.
Ah... "...Yeah... trying to seem adult to a shit dad... really didn't work, as you could tell by my face and the wanted posters all over the city." The light green young male eyed laughed a little. "My kid-self really thought he was something, huh?"
Huh...? No... I shouldn't get anymore involved... The raven haired young woman shook her head.
The rest of the walk back to the apartment was quiet, this time it was a little awkward. Lloyd was in front, Mae a few steps behind, both were off in thought.
Once they were back at the apartment Lloyd's assumption was right, Makayla had left.
However...
"Hm? Why is the window open? Why not leave through the front door?" The dark haired young woman asked.
The male sighed. "She did leave through the front door, she's just doing this to throw us off her track."
"Huh?" The girl inquired, raising an eyebrow obviously confused.
"It's what she does." The green eyed male said, walking inside. "She's a part of a 'WANTED' Organization so she wants to throw people, such as police, off her track." He went towards the window and started to close it.
Mae just gave a slow nod, she kind of understood, then again, she wasn't a criminal, so she kind of didn't.
The young woman walked inside the apartment, wondering if the blonde still had the ID card or left it there, however the next thing she saw, answered her question and she didn't like it. "O-Oh my gosh...!"
"What? What happened?" Lloyd asked, turning to her.
"M-My ID card..." the raven haired female slowly pointed towards it with her index finger, on the counter there was a knife stabbed in the face of the card. Mae's blue eyes darkened even more. ...I'm going to die... and she knows my family... they are going to die because of me...no... no, no, no...!
"Mae...! Mae!" Damn! She's too off in thought to hear me right now! "Maebelle!" The male shouted.
"Gah...!" The blue eyed girl let out a deep breath, looking left, then right, then up at him. "S-Sorry..." she looked down at the floor. "It's just... doesn't she know about my family as well as me? That makes me even more anxious..."
That's right. Makayla knows about her family and who knows the information she's given that too, and now she has her address and college, shit this is bad... Lloyd was thinking to himself.
"Lloyd... is my family going to be okay...?" The girl asked, her voice was desperate, there was a mix of hope and distress in her dark blue eyes, and Lloyd didn't want to look at her because he knew she'd catch his lie.
"I...don't know... I'm really sorry, I don't know." He said and she nodded.
"It's... okay..." Mae replied, but it barely came out as a whisper.
And that was the end of that.
They both stood there, Mae was shaking a little, and Lloyd didn't know what to do to calm her down. He didn't want to say anything, but the male didn't think he should touch her either.
"Do you want me-" The white haired young male got cut off.
"Can I stay here for the night?!" Mae quickly asked.
"Huh?" The male asked, his green eyes widened, quite confused.
"I-I'm sorry, but I don't think it's good for you to walk me home...!" She said, "You'll be alone going back...!"
Oh, I see, she's worried about me. "It's fine, I have a knife." The whisper white haired male says, pulling his knife out of his pocket.
"That just makes me worry more... What if the police find you? They will find your weapon on you too." The blue eyed female explains.
The male sighed, "Y'know all you do is worry." He sighed again and ran a hand through his hair, thinking for a moment. "Fine, If you want to stay here, okay, stay here." The green eyed male said putting his knife away and she nodded her head in agreement.

Like last time, Lloyd had insisted she laid on the bed. However, Mae didn't want him laying on the floor so they both ended up laying on the bed with pillows in between, and like before, Mae had been on the bottom half and Lloyd had been on the top half.
"Night, Lloyd..." Mae quietly said, but it was loud enough for him to hear.
"Night, Mae..." He replied.
After about an hour Mae had fallen asleep, yet Lloyd wasn't able to. He carefully sat up on the bed, not wanting to wake the young adult female. The green eyed male then let out a light laugh.
"Pfft... she's a lot more like a mother than a nineteen year old..." the green eyed male whispered. "...but her worrying is one of the things I like about her..."
The whisper white haired male moved one of the pillows and looked at her, she looked really delicate and could break at any moment.
Break at any moment. 'That woman' could break her.
I'll kill that woman. I'm definitely going to kill her before she kills Mae. The male thought, a glare showing in his green eyes.
