The Prologue
"The Teen Titans, the most infamous heroes in the DC universe make their presence known as they attempt to save Jump City. Ironically, their reckless actions salvage less and damage more of it."
A man wearing a suit reports the news on live tv as the screen shows a once beautiful looking city to a wasteland. One image showed the leader holding a metal pole staff swinging violently towards the crippled villain in the ground cowering. It then shows each member almost looking like a maniac while beating the poor villain in such a brutal way by kicking and stomping him.
"Wow...maybe it's just me, but I pity the villains having to take a stand against them," his expression and tone screamed concern upon witnessing the scene. Though, in less than a second, a small grin plastered itself across his face before reverting to a warm smile at the camera.
"But enough on these vigilantes because now it's time for an interview with the Justice League. This one's with an actual famous person who's loved by many!" He switches his expressions like the flip of a switch. Going from pitiful sentiment to a happy-go-lucky business man advertising his products.
The camera starts to roll live as it points towards the Justice League. They waved at the camera with smiles all across their faces. That is, except for one particular bat who kept his same gloomy expression underneath his mask. Behind them is the Justice League HQ, and one could easily deduce how cutting-edge the structure of it was.
One of the interviews gets close to the team with a mic in their hand. "So tell us, Justice League, how's your current mission going these days?" He moves the microphone close to Superman's mouth.
"Well, it's usually the same routine every now and again. We take down the villains and save the day like always. Though, there are times when our duties can be a bit of a handful with all that we deal with on a regular basis. Especially when it's darkseid." Superman retorts casually while simultaneously wiping a drop of sweat off of his forehead.
Wonder Woman chuckled in response to Superman's comment. "He isn't wrong. Being a hero can be challenging at times, but that's why we united together in the first place. We truly care to save all of you from any threats that come our way. If Superman isn't here with us, we'll still do whatever we can to face the villains ourselves."
She says in a teasing way as she nudges his shoulder. Making superman scratch his head whilst glancing at her.
"Oookay...aaaand what about you, Batman?" He puts the microphone over to him in order to draw attention away from that situation. Batman only responds with mumbling and deep grunts, and while everyone could hear him, they were somehow able to translate it just fine. "Sounds about right if I do say so myself." Superman responds as he pats himself on the back. That gesture alone aggravated Batman, but Superman doesn't seem to have a problem with it.
"Well, there you have it, folks! Seems like nothing ever goes wrong with the Justice League. Because unlike the incompetent bunch of cosplayers I mentioned earlier, the Justice League knows how to take their job seriously." The reporter mocks in the way he says the last couple sentences and then readjusts himself.
"Now, the hero you've all been waiting for; our biggest star of all! Say hello to Grey Matter!" His voice raised upon saying the hero's name.
All of the sudden a figure emerges from behind the reporter, surprising his appearance in front of all the audience watching the screen including the reporter.
"Hey, you gotta be careful there or else you'd be dealt with four years of utter embarrassment." Grey Matter teases as he makes his way on the swivel chair that the reporter previously sat on.
He sits with his one knee crossed over the other placing his foot on the news table while both of his hands are placed behind his head, positioning himself in a resting position, even having a smirk on his face.
"Wow... didn't expect our favorite hero to be coming over here like a mad lad." The reporter is in disbelief but at the same time is feeling rather sheepish knowing he just embarrassed himself just by the trip alone.
"Hey, your belt looks a little loose, pal." Grey matter directs a finger to where the reporter's waist is. A dark shade of red spreads across his face as he attempts to cover up his undergarments before fleeing the scene. "How unfortunate~" He smirked as he pretended to wave him goodbye while stashing the stolen belt somewhere.
Then Grey Matter turns in front of the camera where all of his fans watch him on the news, but right now the way he waves at his fans is more of a satisfactory case for him than anything before. "Happy to see me, huh? Guess what? I decided to take the time to visit here since I've been bored almost everyday. I thought I could use some entertainment for once in a while."Despite his attitude, his fans seem to love him for it. All of them were basically cheering for him on screen, and those who aren't were bitter towards him.
Even so they all can't deny that unlike the titans, he's the one who had done most for society besides the Justice League. At the same time, others wouldn't dare to comment nor call him out due to being the son of two famous and successful people. Compared to their son, they seem to be really nice people.
Thus they can only be jealous of him for getting special treatment while making rude insults for him inside their heads.
Other than that, Grey matter was mostly entertaining his fans with cool tricks like when he uses his psychic powers to lift big objects or to showcase how strong he is by beating up and arresting villains. At the same time, also using criminals for his dangerous tricks to which his fans don't seem to mind one bit.
After an extended hour has passed, Grey Matter looked up on his watch only to notice it's 5:00 PM. "Is it really this late? Welp, can't stay here for long so I gotta go, but not to worry cause I'm pretty sure you'll see me at some other time. Toodles!" He teleported out, disappearing instantly. All of his fans react in disappointment that he didn't get to stay much longer.
Meanwhile in another location, three heroes who were Grey Matter's friends or teammates to be exact, were impressed that he manages to surprise the audience with how bold his actions are yet at the same time they were rather expecting it because of how he's the type to at least put on a performance.
One is similar to a ninja, appearance wise. He wore a mask that resembled a demon revealing its fake but sharp teeth, though the color of his mask was gray, black horn with its fury eyes glowing a bright red. He had a purple scarf that reached to his ankles. The white stripes on his suits goes well with the black color as the way it was designed made it similar to skeleton costumes whilst he wore white pants with a black buckle belt strapped onto his waist. He had high tech gear boots with knee pads to protect him and under his boots flowed blue electricity out of it.
The second one on the right had a flash-esque design to it though instead of red his primary colors were black and yellow as he wore yellow goggles and appeared to have blonde curtain hair. He had golden stripes on his black suit, and had a white upside down triangle in the middle with yellow stripes on the edges. Golden elastic boots that allow him to regenerate speed and lightning. Yellow stylized headphones that had a lightning shape to it.
Lastly, the third who seems to stand out the most from the other two on his back. He looked almost as if he were a machine. He's at least 7 feet tall and had fire coming out both of his hands replaced with cannons. Rocket boosters under his round metal shoes that attach the energy to his chest that gives him a power boost. His mask resembles that of a furnace with flames coming out of his head and his suit was made out of pure armor with both of his chest and shoulder plates covering little of his white colored leather suit.
As the three of them continue to talk to each other about their lives after, grey matter teleports in front of them. "Yo, how's it going?" He greets them in a nonchalant tone raising one of his hands so they could notice him.
The blonde boy was the first to see him and ran up to him at full speed. "Heya! Come on, I need back up here. Please tell wraith that wonder girl was way hotter than Wonder Woman!"
Hearing those words made his reaction quite quizzical. "Uh.. excuse me?" He eyed them in a weird way.
However Inferno interjects "Don't mind them, they've always been arguing over trivial stuff. Other than that, we've been doing great. We saw you on live TV. You were really a big hit there.. Like last time." His comments made grey matter manage to ignore Volt's words and to actually be satisfied with Inferno's compliment. "Hehe... well thanks. I'd put a lot of effort into it."
"Yeah... you were a big hit alright." Wraith sarcastically replies in a deep chilling voice that makes him sound like he's a stoner to which grey matter believes him even though the tone suggests something else.
That's when Volts interrupts "Uhm... you guys are just gonna ignore me or what?". The three looked at him before laughing in response. "Hey!" Volts shouts as a way to stop the three. "Sorry dude, we were too distracted." Wraith ironically said, giving him a devious smile.
The two then started to argue by spouting insults on either side. On the other hand, grey matter watching them make fun of each other. He summons popcorn from his hands making it look like he's watching his fav show with inferno beside him having a slightly irritated face from the situation
But it came out nowhere when a fast movie vehicle speed blitzed through them making their hair flowing violently with the wind. This causes all four of them to pay attention to the one responsible for it.
They turn around to see a car that was recognized to be none other than the Titans who crashed their car next to a parking lot causing the car next to it to have a huge bump on the door from the impact.
Cyborg kicked out of the car door as they all exit with Robin being the last yet he looked to be having a scowl face with exhaustion and trying to mask those with a calm deep breath.
All the Titans except Robin began to repeatedly cheer "Cheeseburger!" in excitement, as Robin grew increasingly annoyed to the point he had to shout, "TITANS! WHAT DID I TELL YOU BEFORE? WE'RE ONLY HERE TO BUY THE SUPPLIES!?" His yelling caused the Titans, including Grey Matter's group, to remain silent in shock. But only after a few minutes did the Titans continue to shout "Cheeseburger!" repeatedly, making Robin sigh and give up.
The Titans then all passed by Grey Matter's group. "Pfft, It's none other than the loser titans." Wraith inserts himself. "What a bunch of jokes. Always making a fool out of themselves hahaha!" Volts adds in. This made the robin's eyes twitch, turning around to see the two heroes insulting them.
"Oh yeah? We'll prove to you just to show how wrong you two are! Right, guys?... guys?" Robin turns around only to see his team getting distracted by how busy they are with themselves. He groans in frustration, making the two laugh at him even more.
"Wow, even your team decided to leave out on this one. I guess that just tells how much of a terrible leader you are." Grey Matter joins in. Though to Robin's case, it was rather a fact despite denying it. "Look, we're not here to mess with you, so just leave us be, okay?"
"Yeahhh.... I don't know man, it was getting fun while it lasted." Wraith answered. "To be fair, he was having a pretty bad day. So it makes sense?" Grey Matter says, taking his response very literally, which causes Wraith to look at him in the eye. "Are you serious? You know what? Who cares..."
"And for the last time, keep your buffoons under control!" Robin retorted. To which Grey Matter just chuckled. "So are you, bird boy. Don't you have better things to do, like doing missions, than to deal with this buffoon? Or that you're just too much of a sore loser to admit defeat?" He teased, having Robin rather upset.
"We have more important things to do than deal with you! Plus, you haven't seen us at our best!" Robin exclaimed as he tried to come up with a reply to fight back, albeit he was barely winning. "Oh, and what are those important things? Watching TV everyday and messing things up? Sure."
Robin seriously couldn't take it anymore and was about to unleash his anger until a hand stopped him. He looked to see it was none other than Raven, who had taken a while to figure out what was going on before making her way to defend him. "Robin, there's no point. At best, we should just ignore them."
As much as Robin hated to admit it, Raven was right. Getting angry over a bunch of strangers would only develop more problems for him. He sighed. "Let's go, Titans..." He said it with less enthusiasm.
Grey Matter watches the Titans. However, he notices Raven glaring at him in a rather 'You are dead' expression. That made him rather uneasy for a little until inferno disrupts, "No wonder why these Titans are a mess. Honestly, I wouldn't want to be like them at all."
"H-huh? Oh, well of course no one does." Grey Matter replied, although he stuttered a bit trying to fix his composure. "What's wrong? You seem so pale for a moment? Don't tell me you're afraid of that goth chick?" Wraith asked.
"What?! No way! Hell, I can even beat those loser titans if I wanted to, but I wouldn't want my hands stained with dirt." Grey Matter says in defense, yet a small tint of red appeared on his cheeks while his eyes glanced in another direction to where he couldn't see Wraith.
Wraith gazed at him suspiciously before a smirk formed on his face. "Suuure... not what I hoped for, but I was expecting you to be doing something bold again."
Grey matter looks at him rather perplexed at his response. "What are you getting at?"
"Oh, it's definitely nothing, but I would say you'd look better as a team leader if you're the one to replace bird boy on the team. That was just a thought nonetheless." The sentence 'better as a team leader' piqued his interest, but would he do something so crazy like that?
It was something that came to his mind as he imagined what it would be like to lead his team. He'd like to think that they respect him more than Robin ever does, since he'd given them better treatment. Grey Matter was just enjoying his little moment inside his head until Volt's voice snapped him out of it. "You really like receiving all the praise, huh?"
Grey Matter looked at him in annoyance, but also disappointment that his daydream had ended abruptly. "Hey, can a guy just dream whatever he wants?"
"Well, sorry." Volt's apology sounded more sarcastic than sincere. "Can we just stop and have fun with our day instead of fighting?" The three stared at Inferno, whose face looked like he's just done with everything. It took minutes before one of them could answer.
"Alright. It's not like we have anything better to do." Wraith is the first to reply.
"Maybe spend our time at the arcade? Last I checked they also sell consoles!" A suggestion came from volt. "Sounds great. After that we could buy some drinks at Megastar." Inferno adds in as his vexation now fading away turns to grey matter. "You coming?"
"Yeah sorry about that but i'm gonna have to turn down the offer. I got plans, besides it's not like I'm leaving all of you behind. Anyways, see ya!" Grey matter waves before disappearing in front of them. "Well that's rare.. I don't think i've ever seen Grey Matter leaving out consoles? You think something's wrong with him?" Volts ask the two, having a somewhat concerned expression.
"I could care less about him." Wraith on the other hand remained indifferent. "He had the money to buy whatever he wants just because he's the son of two famous people he can do whatever he wants." He says although his tone had a bit of resentment.
Time passes and it is currently afternoon where grey matter was sitting at an eagle statue at the top of the building. The view itself was almost as if it were artistic painting that held some meaning to it.
Seeing the sun slowly set, Grey Matter had other thoughts in his mind as to what happened to those earlier events upon meeting with the Titans and remembering Wraith's words. About how he'd be a more fitting leader than robin is. Still, he can't help but imagine the possibilities so for now he would have to consider it.
And one thing is certain. He's a high ranked hero who had his own special treatment so what good is there to join a bunch of low rank heroes who humanity resents?
Sure, seeing a high rank hero joining a bunch of low ranks would cause the information itself to spread like wildfire and he absolutely doesn't want people looking down on him because of his choice. Which is the reason why he had an idea. Even if it sounds so insane, it would work fine just as long as they don't find out about it.
He took out the phone from his pocket. Dialing the numbers, as soon as the person picks up the call. There he waited for Grey Matter's response, "Hey Leon, do you have any spare suits I can wear?....yeah, yeah, I'm sorry for pranking and leaving you like that, but trust me I'm being serious this time."
To be continued
