chapter 8
(Picture of Hadley above)
Today, when I woke up, I showered and got dressed in my black leggings and a baggy dark blue crop top, put my hair up in a pony tail and pulled on my combat boots.
The first thing I did when I got to school was meet up with Eli. "Hey, Rhea?" He asks.
"Yeah?" I say absentmindedly grabbing my books from my locker and stuffing my phone in.
"I have to babysit my younger brother and sister tonight," he looks at me and runs a hand through his hair, "and I was, you know, wondering if you wanted to help me."
"Yeah, sure, I was supposed to watch my brother tonight, my parents won't be home, doing job interviews or something, so as long as I can bring him, I can." I say, and start walking towards class. Eli falls into step beside me. We have the same first and last class, which is convenient, because that means we can walk to the first one together, go our seperate ways, meet at lunch, go our seperate ways again, then meet up again at the last class.
"Yeah, you can bring him, Nate would love a friend to play with." I smile and continue into class.
Sometime during school, I give Eli my number, so he can text me where his house is and what time to come. Turns out he only lives about six blocks away from our new house, so I don't have to ask anyone for a ride, we can just walk.
Later that night, when Issac and I get to Eli's house, a younger boy that looks a lot like Eli opens the door. "Eli!" He yells, "your girlfriend's here!" He calls and I grimace.
"She's not my girlfriend, ugh, you know what, Nate, just let her in!" Eli yells back.
He lets us in, and a little girl with adorable little pigtails in her adorable blonde hair, come running in the room. She has the same dark brown eyes that Eli and Nate have. Eli comes running in after her, and his eyes land on me. "Hey Rhea, is that your brother?" He asks, grabbing up the little girl in his arms and she screams, a high pitched scream. "Sorry, she does that a lot."
"It's okay, she's adorable, oh yeah, that's my brother, Issac." I say nodding toward Issac, he waves. "Issac, why don't you go play with Nate?" I nudge and he goes without complaining.
"Nate, how about you show Issac your room?"
"Okay fine," they walk off in the opposite direction of where Eli and the baby came running from, with Nate leading.
Eli, clears his throught, I look over at him, "okay, so Rhea, this is Hadley, Hadley, that's Rhea. She's going to be playing with us tonight." Hadley looks over at me, seems deep in thought for about ten seconds before waving at me.
"Hi Hadley," I say sweetly, and she comes running into my arms. Eli chuckles.
"Seems like she likes you," he says still chuckling. Hadley grabs my hand and tries to pull me, I quickly get up and cast a glance over at Eli, who just shrugs. She pulls me down a hallway, and into a bedroom with a crib and and a twin sized bed. I freeze and Hadley turns around and looks up at me. There's a girl, who looks about seventeen or eighteen, and she looks up at me.
"Hey, you must be Eli's new girlfriend," she says, "I'm Aleah."
I gulp, "umm, no, we're not dating, we're just friends," Hadley looks back up at me again and tries to tug on my arm. I follow her and she leads me to a toy chest where she takes out an assortment of different toys.
"Oh, really? I would've thought you were, he wouldn't shut up about you last night at dinner. It's Rhea, right?" I nod, "I love your hair, Rhea, it gorgeous!" She gushes, Hadley hands me a stuffed pony and starts prancing around with another one. "She's just learning how to share," Aleah supplies, and I take that as my cue to thank Hadley for sharing. I don't have much experience with little kids, but I know you should complement them if they do well in learning something new.
After a couple more hours of playing with Hadley, watching Hadley's favorite disney movie, Rapunzel, and eating candy, Issac and I bid them goodbye and leave.
Mom and Dad still aren't home when we get back, so we stay up a little longer, then go to bed, seeing as it's Saturday tomorrow. "Hey, sis?" Issac asks before we head to our seperate rooms.
Yeah, Issac?" I ask.
"Will I be able to hang out with Nate again?"
"I'll try to make it happen," I promise, and we each head to our seperate rooms.
