I'm so excited to be moving from Oregon all the way to Maine. Everyone at my current school are such jerks, just because I'm not as pretty as them.

"Rhea! Come on dear, time to leave to go to school! You won't want to miss your last chance to say goodbye to all of your friends." Mom yells up to me.

"Okay, be right down!" I yell back.

That's the other thing, my parents don't know how everyone treats me here at this school. They think I have all these friends that'll miss me.

I quickly run down the stairs and almost bump into my little brother, Issac. "Watch where you're going!" He yells after me, but I ignore him as usual. I am determined to eat at least a little bit of breakfast before school.

I manage to eat a bowl of my favorite cereal, Cinnamon toast crunch, before my mom yells for us to get in the car.

I gently place my bowl in the sink and wipe my mouth with the back of my hand before grabbing my backpack and jogging out to the car.

When we get to the high school, I quickly hop out of the car, bid my mother goodbye, and run into the building.

"Oh look its the mermaid hair freak!" I hear as I enter the building and just like that the whispers start.

The rest of the day goes by with more whispering than usual and a little bit less teasing. I know somehow they found out I'm moving, that must be the whispering.

My suspicions are confirmed when Amanda Seders comes up behind me and asks, "hey mermaid hair, I thought you were moving today."

I gulp, "uh, no, it's tomorrow" I say, I gulp again and look up at her. Her heels she wears everyday make her a whole food taller than me.

She snickers, "oh well in that case, have a safe trip! We'll miss you." She lies and I here a few snickers around us. I manage a fake smile and grab my books and leave.

When I'm finally home, I callapse on my unmade bed and let out a sigh.

Only one thought comes to my mind before I fall asleep, I can't let this happen in Maine. It will be different there, it will be my chance to start over. I can stay in the shadows and finish my last three years of school in Maine.
