The One-thousandth Descendant

Prologue

I pulled down my hood and pushed my way in to the crowd, I didn't know who she was or what she wanted but that old lady was fast. I'd been trying to shake her off for ages, but so far, all my efforts had been in vain. I ignored the funny looks I got from people as I pushed past them. I kept walking fast until I saw an alley and made a dash for it hoping she won't follow me in.

Chapter 1

The dream

I see light, white, blinding light, I look around but it's all I can see for miles. I hear a voice, it sounds like a boy, I try calling out to him, but no sound comes out of my mouth. I try running forwards, something, some kind of force is pulling me, I begin to see things, the faint outline of a boy, I shout out, again nothing comes out of my mouth. I stretch my hand and...

My alarm clock was ringing, that's the same dream I'd been having for weeks now and I never get to see who that boy is or what he is to me. I sighed and got out of bed. I had other important things to deal with. I had to get ready for school. Doing my best to ignore the dream. I showered and washed my hair, then dried myself with a towel and wrapped it round my body, then walked into my room and pulled out a shirt, jeans and sandals and quickly put them on, making sure I sprayed some perfume before I dashed out of my room. I was sure my mum's waiting for me, I hoped she was not very angry. I ran downstairs, jumping down two stairs at a time and guess what, my mum was super angry, she'd been trying to wake me up for ages.

"Morning Mum", I said, doing my best to sound cheerful even though my heart was beating uncontrollably in my chest. My mum could be very scary when she's angry and the last thing I wanted was to be scolded first thing in the morning. I grabbed two slices of bread and put them in a toaster and start rummaging round the cupboards and drawers for a plate and a knife, my mum was always changing the arrangement of things in the kitchen.

"This is the third time you're late for the bus Amy" she said and I held my breath hoping she wasn't going to go hay wire on me. "Honestly, I can't drive you there everyday, I've got work too you know".

I exhaled slowly, thank God she wasn't too angry.

"I'm sorry mum, honestly I am. I don't over sleep on purpose, I just can't wake up even if I want to, I go to sleep early these days but I still over sleep. But I promise to try waking up early tomorrow." I replied in between bites of toast. I'd finally found the plate and the knife and buttered my toast. I gulped down a glass of milk and grabbed my jacket then followed my mum to the car. I don't like it when she drives me to school either but I really have no choice now so I didn't complain about it. I just got in the car, put on my seat belt and prayed so hard, keeping my eyes on my laps so I wouldn't see the trees as the whizzed past.

I got to school ten minutes before the warning bell, at times like that, I thank my mum for her outrageous driving skills. My best friend Tina was waiting for me by my locker.

"Hey T" I said "What's up?".

She gave me the once-over and said, "You're not wearing make-up"

"Not again!" I countered, "I really am not in a mood for this argument, you know I only wear make-up when it's absolutely necessary"

"Hello, Amy. This IS an 'absolutely necessary' situation. Don't you want Josh to ask you out, you know you're very pretty..."

"Then why do I need make-up T? Look, we're going to be late for class, don't you have French with Fleur? You don't want her to give you a 1000-word essay in French do you?".

"Oh my God, I almost forgot, later gator, this discussion is not over" she breathed as she rushed past me.

I silently thanked my lucky stars as I walked to my class going straight to my seat at the back, by the window, surprisingly Josh was the least of my problems, I had bigger things on my mind. I had a study class as my first class on Thursdays and since I didn't have a test that day, I just sat down, looked out the window, and thought about the dream...

****************************************************************************************************************************

I waited for Tina to come out of class but her class had been detained. Throughout my third and fifth classes, I'd been avoiding her, we have Biology and History together. I sighed and picked up my bag, T will call me when she gets home.

====****====

Someone followed me in, not the old lady but someone else. It was a guy and he had the build of a wrestler. I turned back and ran but I met solid wall, my only option was to stay and fight and believe me I was going to put my all in it. I faced him, balled up my fists, and took up the fighting stance.

"Well, well. It seems we have a fighter here, don't you think so Shahid?", a rich feminine voice said.

"So it seems, Jen", Wrestler-guy replied.

I cleared my throat, a reminder to them that I was still standing there. Alive and able to listen.

"Oh hello Amy", the old lady said.

I turned around, surprised she knew my name, and was met by a shocking sight, the old lady was no longer an old lady, her grey hair was a lustrous black one that lay on her shoulders and her stoop was gone, she stood straight. Her skin was also smooth and radiant, she looked Asian. She also had something like a birth mark on her forehead, it was shaped like a strawberry and it looked so much like mine. I was confused and didn't know what to say, we resembled each other in such an extraordinary way. She noticed me staring at her and raised up an eyebrow, and I said the first thing that came to my mind.

"How do you know my name?".

Her perfect lips curved into a smile and she came closer, closing the gap between us, and reached out her hand until her fingertips rested on my forehead. "We are one, you and I" she said and as she said those words I felt a faint tingle on my forehead. "Oh and Shahid too"

I glanced at him and my gaze was drawn to his forehead which was softly glowing.

"We are all connected" she said.
