Gatherer of Stories

This chappy was planned forever ago, I actually Had to put Fable on semi hiatus so Mana's story could catch up. And no, its not a copy paste both sides are different to a point XD

"Mama? Daddy?"

As soon as Mana opened his eyes, and called out he knew they would not reply. Some part of his soul felt brittle and broken, and if an important bond had been sheared off.

It was agony, he he wanted it to stop.

"I'm.. sorry" The monster staring at him said, there eye lights dark as they too realized the answer.

Mana wailed with grief, it would be a very long time till he stopped.

-----

Mana felt like he would never stop crying, he woke crying and fell asleep crying.

It was an endless cycle of tears.

Every day the nice monster Chronos would come and make sure he ate and bathed, and didn't just lay there on the bed.

They tried to get him to leave the guest bedroom, but as soon a she did panic would consume Mana as if the world would swallow him up if he did. It was easy enough to pretend the outside didn't exist. This guestroom had a bathroom with a shower stall, he liked baths better but he wasn't picky.

Chronos had to rescue him a few times, when he'd accidentally blasted himself with icy water and panicked.

He'd found the letter hidden in his clothes the second day, having slept in his clothes. Chronos had gotten him fresh clothes so he could bath, and they' found it carefully hidden inside the fabric fold of clothes.

He hadn't opened it yet, it had been four weeks inside this room.

It wasn't his room, his room was with mama and daddy.

His room he realized, likely didn't exist anymore.

He shifted into a cat and curled under his blanket, it was easier to grieve in that form.

------

He met the other child of the house briefly, the time he woke up didn't count as he'd been in no mental state for anything. Chronos has said there name was Fable, it was a nice name.

One night he got a bit stir crazy and hadn't fallen into his usual exhausted sleep, he'd carefully crept out like a curious feline.

The couch was so inviting when he saw it, he couldn't help but climb up and curl into a ball.

Yup, he liked this spot.

Of course, the other child wondered out that night also.

Mana squeaked, and fled back to his room.

------

They we're at his door again, day after day trying to talk to him.

Offering food, to play...

To just leave the room

Why did they keep trying.

He closed his eyes, falling asleep to dream of his family.

------

A knock on the door woke him, too light and low to be Chronos.

Fable again.

"Lunch time, Chrono's made pancakes" Fable called softly.

Mana shifted in bed, staring at the door blankly.

"Its really good too!" Fable tried again.

"Go away..." he called brokenly.

"Please" Fable begged, there voice sounded so worriedly.

He shouldn't worry, Mana was a curse on those that cared for him.

"No!" he replied.

"My name is Fable, whats your name?" the other child asked, the door shifted as Fable was likely pressing against it.

The time ticked away, he heard them sigh guessing they were about to give up for the moment.

"Mana"

Why had he given his name out?

"Its a pretty name" Fable replied, Mana didn't say anything else.

------

"And then, Maple climbed the tree" Fable said through the door telling him of his day, Mana was a bit confused on Corruption and Maple Fable spoke of with his stories but they sounded silly. He was sitting against the door, listening to the others voice.

"A tree?" he said softly/

"And then he fell into the pond"

A giggle escaped Mana.

"When he came up, he had water weeds on his skull like hair!" Fable also giggled, Mana didn't even realize he was technically back to back with Fable.

------

It was a chill, a feeling of something coming ever closer.

They knew this feeling, they'd felt it when Malice had him.

Mana rubbed his face, he... did not want to make whatever that was here. Chronos and Fable had been kind, even if he had not been the best guest due to his grief. He quickly began to pack his few things, pulling on his jacket and tying his scarf like mama taught him.

Grief surged, Blue had been his mother in all ways but birthing him. They'd cared for him, even feral in adult bones. Error, his daddy a bit standoffish at first but very caring to those to loved.

They would have been upset to see him give up so easily he.. had wanted to meet Fable face to face.

The last thing he picked up the letter, still unopened and unread some part of him fearing what was inside.

In crinkled under his fingers, the edges crinkled from the many times he had touched it.

Taking a breath he pushed his door open, the hallway was pitch black as no lights were on. His shoes barely a sound on the wooden floor, he saw the way easily as he'd been seeing better in the dark since he first gained his cat self.

He slipped out the back door, as Chronos had mentioned there was some issue with the door since the capsule crashed there. Cold air and night sky greeted him outside, he stared at the full moon. It was so bright and pretty, it looked lonely up there without any stars.

"Mana?" a voice called, Mana blinked and turned,

"Fable..." he whispered, he hadn't realized who unique and pretty Fables eyes were.

"Are you leaving?" Fable asked. Mana looked down at his left hand holding the crinkled envelope.

"They left me a letter..." Mana whispered.

"They loved you" Fable replied.

"How do you know that, they sent me away" Mana wailed into the night air, Fable hugged him and let them cry.

"They loved you enough to make sure you lived"

Dawn was coming when Mana stopped crying, a tired Chronos at the door keeping an eye on them.

"I have to go..." Mana whispered softly and tiredly, yet resolute.

"You sure kid, your welcome to stay?" Chronos said walking over, Mana gave him a fragile smile. He wanted to stay, but staying here would bring them danger.

"I can't stay... I.. I need to move on, I can feel them dogging my steps" Mana sniffled, Chronos gave Mana a hug.

"Stay safe kid" he said, feeling the determination of the child.

"Wait! Touch my book.. I want to try something!" Fable said summoning it, frowning Mana touched it feeling a warm magic partial Fables and partial someone else tingle against his hand. They all blinked when the book flipped page, landing on a page.

"I was hoping it would show more, but now your recorded in my book... which means I can find you again" Fable grinned, getting a fragile smile back

"Thank you" Mana said, and blind portalled into the infinities.

------

Mana gave a squeak as he tripped over a figure laying on the ground, he made out black leather clothes and a strange mask before he tumbled through a portal.

"Sorry!" Mana called before the second portal closed.

The Assassin stared in disbelief.
