It had been two years since Phantom burned down Fazbear's Fright, nothing relating to all of that had happened in that time though. On this particular day Batman walked through the zeta tubes into the mountain, the team immediately went to see what was going on. Batman looked at all of them and spoke, "The League found a suspected criminal not too long ago, he claims he's just looking for someone and hasn't committed any crimes."
"He won't tell us who he's looking for or what his name is, the League has tried everything, we've decided to see if he'll talk to any of you."
Aqualad spoke, "What has he said so far?"
"Only that he's innocent and that he's looking for someone, he says he needs to tell them something important."
The young heroes all looked a bit confused but they all agreed to go, they went through the zeta tubes and they ended up at the watchtower. As soon as they walked in Phantom felt something, it was familiar, but there was no way he could be feeling it here. He was sure he was just imagining it and he followed Batman with the rest of the team to where this supposed criminal was being held.
He found it odd that the feeling was getting stronger, what the hell was wrong with him right now? His question was answered when they stopped in front of the window to an interrogation room. He froze, he couldn't move, he was sure he stopped breathing for a bit as he stared at who was sitting in the room.
Superman was in the room with him at the moment and the man looked distressed, he had his head on the table with his hands tangled in his hair. Phantom's eyes were wide and when he spoke it was barely a whisper, "Michael."
All of a sudden Michael sat up straight with wide eyes, "He's here." Michael stood up from his chair and looked at Superman pleadingly, "Please, I need to talk to him."
The heroes looked shocked and Phantom looked at Batman, "Let me talk to him."
Batman looked at the halfa, "He's dangerous."
"He's not dangerous, not to me."
Robin looked at Phantom, "You know him?"
"Yes, and I need to talk to him."
Superman looked at Michael, "There's no one here."
"I know he's here I can feel it, he knows it's me, he always does, just let me talk to him."
Batman spoke, "How can you be sure he won't hurt you?"
"It's Michael for god sake, he's not going to hurt me so let me talk to him."
Batman thought for a minute, it was their best chance at getting him to talk, he finally nodded and Phantom felt relieved. Superman was trying to get Michael to calm down and Batman opened the door, he gestured for Superman to follow him and Michael looked at the hero. "Please I need to talk to him, he needs to know what's going on."
The two heroes left the room without saying a word and once they were outside Superman gave Batman a confused look. "What's going on?"
Batman looked at the kryptonian, "Phantom is going to talk to him."
Superman's eyes widened, "What, why?"
Phantom glared at him a little, "I swear if you say he's dangerous I will hurt you."
Superman looked a little shocked and Phantom walked toward the door to the interrogation room. He opened the door without hesitation and as soon as he walked in Michael looked at him and his eyes widened. He visibly relaxed and Phantom closed the door before looking at Michael and smiling, "Hey Michael."
Michael smiled, "Goldie, thank god you're here." All of the heroes stared into the room in shock, he called Phantom Goldie, he had something to do with what happened to Phantom. Phantom sat across from Michael and the man quickly sat down, "I've been looking for you everywhere, I didn't expect to find you here."
Phantom smiled a little, "Neither did I." Phantom's smile fell and he looked concerned, "What's going on Michael?"
Michael looked at the table, "Something happened, something bad, no one else would ever believe me."
Phantom looked more concerned now, "What happened?"
Michael seemed to caught up in his thoughts to realize that Phantom had talked at all. "I've been looking for you ever since it happened, and him, he did something and I don't know what to do. Everyone would just think I was crazy and I couldn't find you, I didn't even know how you'd react if you saw me again."
Phantom put a hand on Michael's shoulder, "Michael, I'm still your friend, do you still believe that?" Michael looked at him and after a second he nodded, "Then please, tell me what happened, you know I'll believe you."
Michael looked at the table again before taking a notebook out of his pocket, "I wrote it all down. I thought you would want to know everything that happened and I didn't know when or if I would be able to find you."
Michael handed the notebook to Phantom and the halfa took it, once he did Michael spoke again. "There's something else, something is wrong with me, I should be dead but I'm not, I'm sure he did something but I don't know what. After you read it, after you know what happened, I need you to help me figure out what he did, please."
Phantom nodded, "I'll help you Michael, I promise." It was at this point that Batman decided to step in, he opened the door and Phantom glanced at him before looking at Michael again. "I have to leave for a bit but I will be back Michael, I promise."
Michael nodded and crossed his arms on the table before hiding his face in them, Phantom ruffled his hair a little before standing up. He walked out of the room and as soon as Batman closed the door Phantom opened the notebook and started reading. Batman looked at the halfa, "What's going on?"
"I don't know yet, but Michael is obviously upset, if he came all the way here just to ask for my help then it's important."
Phantom didn't look away from the notebook, Batman went into the interrogation room himself and tried to talk to Michael. He wouldn't say anything though, he didn't even move, Batman suspected that he wouldn't talk to anyone but Phantom now. The halfa read the notebook, as he continued reading he started to understand what happened.
When he got to the end he felt a bit sick, Michael had suffered enough as it was and this was twisting a knife into his heart. Phantom stood up and opened the door to the room, Batman mentally sighed before leaving and Phantom sat down before putting the notebook on the table. "I read it, I'm sorry Michael."
Michael shook his head, "He told me to find her, to put her back together, and then, well, you know what happened."
Phantom looked away for a second, "So you don't know how you survived?"
Michael shook his head again, "No, but I don't think any normal person could survive that."
Phantom nodded in agreement before holding out his hand to Michael, the man took a deep breath before taking it. Phantom's eyes changed and Michael froze, the heroes looked at the two curiously, they had no idea what was going on. After a few seconds Phantom let go of Michael's hand, he looked shocked and sad, "Michael, I'm so sorry."
Michael looked at Phantom, "It isn't true, tell me it isn't true."
Phantom shook his head, "I'm sorry Michael, I can't lie to you."
Michael looked at the table, "So that's what's wrong with me, that's why I'm not dead." Phantom nodded and Michael looked at the table again before taking something else out of his pocket. "There's something else you should see."
Michael gave Phantom some half folded papers, Phantom started glancing through the information. Michael spoke again, "He'll be there, they all will."
Phantom looked at him, "So I was right, he's still here."
Michael smiled sadly and nodded, "You always did know more then the rest of us."
Phantom looked at the papers again, something had apparently caught his attention before and he stared at it for a second. "Are you sure?"
Michael suddenly looked serious and he nodded, "This has to end, and I think I should be the one to end it."
Phantom looked at Michael sadly but he nodded, "Keep me updated?"
Michael smiled, "Of course Goldie."
Phantom smiled and he stood up, he held his hand out to Michael and this time he didn't hesitate to take it. Phantom lead Michael out of he room and the heroes knew better then to try and stop Phantom from letting Michael go. Phantom lead his friend to the zeta tubes and took Michael to the town he needed to be in, once they were there they stopped.
Michael looked at Phantom, "Thank you Goldie, for everything."
Phantom smiled, "Of course, I've known you since you were a kid, well, we were both kids, but I will always help when you need me."
Michael hugged Phantom and the halfa hugged him back, after that Michael left, they would keep in touch, until the time came. True to his word Michael told Phantom everything that happened, for days he would call Phantom to tell him it was working. Phantom told the heroes who Michael was, to an extent, he was William Afton's son and they were friends because of what happened.
About a week passed and Batman was talking to the team when Phantom's phone started buzzing. He looked at who was calling and saw that it was Michael, he started walking out of the room without saying a word to the heroes. He answered the call and he didn't even get a chance to talk before he heard a voice on the other end that didn't belong to Michael.
Phantom walked to his room and shut the door as he listened intently to what was being said on the other end of the phone. It was a girls voice at first, one he vaguely recognized, it took him a second to realize that it was the animatronic that killed Michael's sister. Then it changed to a man's voice, he said Elizabeth's name, he froze when he realized that it was Henry.
Henry helped make Freddy Fazbear's with William Afton, and as the call went on Phantom figured out what was going on. Henry was the one that made the job listing Michael found, now he was planning on setting the building they were in on fire. Henry was going to stay, and Michael was staying too, they were ending this, all of it, and he would be the only one left.
Then something caught his attention while Henry was talking, "And to you, the one my volunteer has called. I know who you are, I know what happened to you, and I am happy you survived, however you also went through something horrible. There are many people to blame for your suffering, myself included, and I'm sure you will never forgive any of us."
"But if you do, if you can somehow forgive any of the people responsible then we can all rest easy. You are the one he should not have tried to kill, I am content in knowing you will survive all of this and remember what happened here. I must apologize once again, you did not deserve to go through that, but you will also live knowing that this is over, end tape."
Once Henry stopped talking Michael finally spoke, "This is it Goldie."
Phantom felt like crying, he knew Michael, they were friends, and now he was going to die. Phantom managed to smile, he knew Michael couldn't see it but still, "I guess it is, I never thought it would end this way."
Michael laughed a little, "Neither did I, but this is a good way to go, we'll finally be free and you can move on. But I wanted to call you before I go, you have been, and always will be, my best friend, I'm glad I got to know you."
Phantom felt tears fall from his eyes but he still smiled, "I'm glad I met you too Michael, goodbye my friend, and thank you."
He could imagine Michael's smile, "Goodbye Goldie, have a good life."
The call ended and Phantom choked up, the tears wouldn't stop and he dropped his phone before falling to his knees. He wasn't sure when he moved to the corner but he didn't care, he just curled up with his back to the corner and cried. Someone knocked on his door after a few minutes but he didn't answer it, he just kept crying.
Whoever knocked opened the door and Phantom knew it was Robin and the rest of the team. As soon as Robin saw him he quickly ran into the room and knelt next to Phantom before hugging him. Batman was there as well and he saw Phantom's phone on the floor, he picked it up and messed with it for a minute.
He somehow got it to replay his phone call with Michael, it once again started with Elizabeth before Henry started talking. Once it got to the message for him the heroes were sad and confused what did Phantom go through, and who was saying all of this to him? They knew a bit about what happened but they didn't know everything, this guy seemed to know exactly what happened.
Then Michael spoke, "This is it Goldie."
Phantom used his powers to mess with his phone so it would stop, he couldn't hear that again. The heroes looked shocked and sad, they didn't know exactly what was going on but it was obvious that Michael was gone.
