Chapter Twenty-seven - Too early
~Four days later~
I lay on the sofa in mine and Tom's living room, my hands resting against my massive bump as I aimlessly flicked through the TV channels.
"Do you need anything?" I looked up and gave Haley a small smile as she walked in, and sat on the other chair in the room.
"I'm okay, thanks, Hale." I nodded. She returned it as she leant forward and reassuringly put her hand on my thigh.
"How do you feel, babe?" she asked. I sighed and bit my lip as I looked at her.
"I mean, my back hurts, my feet hurt, I can't walk properly, I have more lines on me than a fucking tiger-." My eyes widened, my heart violently jumping in my chest as I felt something trickle down my legs. I had never felt something quite like that before in my life, and that alone was enough to tell me exactly what it was. And, well...it was too fucking early.
"Haley." I gulped, my entire body starting to panic as I eased myself up into a sitting position.
"Hmm?" she asked as she looked at me.
"I think that my water just broke." I gulped. Her eyes widened, her mouth also falling open as my hands tightly clutched my bump in anxiety.
"In the nicest way possible, are you sure that you didn't just pee-."
"No, that was definitely my water." I cut her off.
"Fuck, okay, okay, we're going to get you to the hospital." She nodded, making me gulp harshly and try not to cry at the fact that Tom's fears had apparently been well-founded after all as she helped me stand up.
"You need to call Tom, tell him to get on the first plane that he can possibly get." I choked, my hand gripped in Haley's as she walked me out to her car.
"I'll get Harrison to call him, he'll get here on time." She reassured, making me gulp and try not to think about that over the pain that I would soon be in as we got into the car, and Haley started to drive.
Tom's P.O.V
The soft sound of something buzzing started to pull Tom out of the grasp of sleep, his still-heavy eyes fluttering open as he got unexpectedly woken up. He looked around in confusion, his still half-awake mind just about processing the fact that the buzzing sound was his phone against the table by the sofa that he was sleeping on in Harry's living room. He picked up his phone and finally looked at it.
"Fucking hell." He groaned as he saw that it was only three o'clock. His eyebrows furrowed, his phone vibrating from the call that he was getting from Harrison. The question was why his best friend was calling him at this time, though he supposed that it would be a more reasonable hour back home. He sighed and clicked the green button before holding his phone to his ear.
"Hey, mate-."
"Y/N's water broke, she's in labour." Tom's eyes widened, his heart plummeting to his feet as he shot up from the sofa.
"How long ago?" he asked as he quickly scrambled to get dressed, though it was hard with how shaky his hands already were as he just about managed to pull on jeans and a top.
"About five minutes ago. Haley is driving her to the hospital now, but you need to get on the next flight here." He spoke.
"Yeah, yeah, tell Y/N that I'm on my way, and I'll be there as soon as possible." He gulped, his heart violently racing and tears pricking his eyes simply at the thought of not making it home in time for the birth of their daughter.
"Of course. See you soon." Harrison nodded before the line went dead. Tom threw his phone into his bag before shoving everything else in too, the boy not bothering at all to make it neat packing as he just focused on getting everything in.
"Tom?" he looked up as Harry walked into the room.
"What are you doing?" He scoffed and shook his head.
"I need to go home, mate. Y/N's in labour. I'm about to be a dad." He smiled and shook his head as a tear left his eye. Harry's eyes widened.
"Oh my god, shit, right, pack up all of your stuff and I'll drive you to the airport." He nodded.
"Thank you, mate, so much." He returned his nod before ruffling his hair and rushing out of the room.
Y/N's P.O.V
"Where the fuck is Tom?" I spat through gritted teeth as I lay in the hospital bed, my hands clenched into fists around the sheets as I desperately tried, and failed, to recover in between each contraction.
"He's on his way, he was about to get on the plane the last time that I talked to him." Harrison nodded, him and Haley on either side of me to support me as we waited for Tom to get here. Right now, I just hoped that he'd arrive on time. After all, the last that I had been told, I was over halfway dilated, and that had been half an hour ago.
"And when did you last talk to him?" I asked. Harrison gulped and looked timidly at Haley, making her look at him with wide eyes as she shook her head.
"Oh my god, he's never going to make it in time, he's going to miss it!" I groaned and squeezed my eyes shut as I lulled my head back against the pillow.
"Y/N, babe, get ready because here comes another contraction." Haley warned, her eyes glued to the monitor next to me that was showing my contractions as she took my hand. I gripped it tightly, my heart racing and sweat trickling down my face as the contraction hit. My eyes widened, pain racing through me and my hand gripping Haley's as tightly as fucking possible as I screamed out.
"Harrison, call Tom, and tell him that if he's not here in half an hour, I'm going to fucking kill him." I spoke through gritted teeth, a breath of relief leaving my lips as the contraction eventually passed. Harrison nodded and gulped as he looked at Haley for reassurance. She clenched her jaw and nodded, making him return it as he pulled his phone out of his pocket.
"Okay, I'll be right back." He spoke before starting to leave the room.
"If you step foot in this room before you've gotten a promise from Tom that he will be here in thirty minutes or less, I will kill your ass too!" I yelled after him.
"Noted!" He called in return, making Haley sigh and give me a small smile as she took my hand again.
"Tom will get here in time, babe. He'll get here." She reassured. I choked and nodded as I bit my lip, my heart hurting at the thought of Tom missing our daughter's birth. And it would be because of the trip that I had insisted that he go on.
Tom's P.O.V
Tom ran out of the airport, his heart racing and his anxiety through the roof as he looked around desperately.
"Taxi!" he yelled and stuck his arm out, causing one to stop. He threw his bag in before climbing in after it.
"London Royal Hospital, please." He gulped, the driver nodding before the taxi started moving. He looked down as his phone started to buzz again, Tom's eyes widening as it showed Harrison's number. His best friend had understandably called him countless times since Y/N had gone into labour, but every time, Tom's heart stopped at the idea that each call would be the one telling him that his daughter was here. That he'd missed her birth. He pressed the answer button, and put the phone to his ear.
"What's happening?" he gulped.
"Your daughter is nearly here, man. Y/N says that if you're not here soon, you're dead, smoking is coming out of her ears, she's breathing fire-."
"Hey, I love you, Haz, but do not talk about my wife like that. She's in fucking labour, of course she's not doing well." Tom spat.
"Alright, I'm sorry, but you need to get here now. How far away are you?" he asked. Tom gulped and looked out of the window, his eyes flicking around as he tried to figure out where he was.
"I reckon about twenty minutes at the most." He nodded.
"Okay, good, good." Harrison spoke.
"Just, just make sure that Y/N doesn't give birth until I'm there." Tom gulped, his eyes wavering and tears pricking his eyes at being so fucking close, and yet potentially still missing the moment that would be such an important milestone in his and Y/N's lives.
"Mate, I don't think that I have any control over that. I don't think even Y/N does, I'm pretty sure that your daughter is the only person who can control that." Harrison sighed. Tom returned it and looked down as he desperately tried not to cry.
"Right, yeah. Just tell her that I'm nearly there, and tell her to try and hold on as long as possible." He nodded.
"Will do. See you soon, mate." Harrison replied. Tom nodded again before hanging up. He looked up and out of the window again, his hand rubbing over his mouth and chin in anxiety as he tried to hold himself together. The hard bit was the flight, now he was mere minutes away from getting to the hospital. Tom just had to hope that the universe wouldn't be so cruel that he would turn out to only be minutes late. Tom wouldn't be able to handle that.
Tom ran into the hospital, his heart never having calmed down since he'd first gotten on the plane in America as he rushed up to the front desk of the labour ward.
"I'm Tom Holland, my wife is in labour, I think that she's been in labour for a few hours now." He gulped, making the nurse nod as she started to search for Y/N on her computer.
"Okay, Mr. Holland, she's in room...fifty three." She stated.
"Thank you so much, thank you." He panted and nodded before turning and starting to rush through the corridors. His eyes flicked quickly over the numbers on the doors, his heart jumping in excitement as they got closer to fifty-three the further he rushed through the corridor.
"Forty nine, fifty, fifty one, fifty two." He mumbled to himself.
"Fifty three, yes, finally." He gulped before throwing the door open and rushing in. Tom's eyes widened, his gaze wavering and his mouth falling open as he saw her.
"Oh my god." He choked.
