Chapter Twenty-nine - Haley's thirtieth birthday
"I'm home!" I yelled as I shut the front door, and immediately kicked my heels off.
"We're in the kitchen!" Tom shouted back. I walked through, a smile curling onto my lips like it always did seeing my husband and daughter as Tom sat at the kitchen table with Olivia sitting on his lap.
"Hey, Tommy." I smiled, making him return it as I leant down and pecked his lips before kissing Olivia's head too.
"Have you guys had a good day?" I asked as I started to sift through the post.
"Well, we played with toys for two hours, then we went for a walk in the park, and then daddy had to sit and try not to want a smoke while we watched singing shapes, on repeat, for five hours." He smiled sarcastically at me so that our daughter would be blissfully unaware of what he was saying. I chuckled and bit my lip at him.
"Well, I'm sure that she enjoyed her day with daddy." I smiled as I sat down next to him with the post still in my hands. My eyebrows furrowed as one particular envelope caught my eye.
"Oh, what's this?" I asked as I pulled out the blue envelope that had been buried in and amongst the plain white ones.
"Open it and find out, love." Tom shrugged and kissed Olivia's head. I opened it and read the letter.
"Oh, okay. It's an invitation to Haley's thirtieth birthday party." I stated as my eyes flicked over the details.
"She's thirty already? God, that makes me feel old." Tom winced and squeezed his eyes shut as he ran his hand over his face.
"Tommy, you're only thirty-one, you're not even that much older." I teased.
"True, I guess." He chuckled and nodded, his hands absentmindedly playing with Olivia's hair as he looked at the letter.
"So, where and when is it?" he asked.
"Their house, this Saturday." I nodded.
"Great. I guess that we have to find a babysitter, we can't miss it, can we?" He sighed as he stood up and picked up Olivia as he did.
"Try not to sound quite so annoyed that we're going to our best friend's thirtieth birthday, Tommy. Anyway, it's fine, I could ask mum and dad if they're free." I spoke.
"God, no." he groaned, making me look at him.
"Why not?" I chuckled.
"Well, for starters, they spoil Olivia rotten, not to mention that they're not going to approve of us going to a party at our age, sweetheart." He sighed and shook his head.
"Okay, don't play the victim, you know fine well that you spoil her as much as they do." I teased, making him playfully roll his eyes and chuckle as he looked at Olivia.
"Anyway, they're not going to disapprove. Look, Tommy, Olivia loves being looked after by them, and it's Wednesday, so they may be the only people who can look after her at such short notice." I shrugged. He sighed and squeezed his eyes shut, making me chuckle at how much he didn't want my parents to look after our daughter.
"Fine, fine. I suppose that you should call them." He mumbled as he looked at Olivia again.
"Good, thank you. Now, mummy is going to get in the bath." I nodded.
"Can daddy join her?" Tom smirked.
"Ha, no, but nice try." I smiled and nodded sarcastically.
"Damn." He chuckled, making me smirk and blow a kiss to him as I left the room.
I stood in front of our full-length mirror in mine and Tom's bedroom, my eyes glued to my reflection as I put my last earring in. Tonight was the night of Haley's birthday party, and I had to admit that I couldn't wait. Tom and I hadn't had a night out since Olivia was born, and so a night with just the two of us, alcohol, and maybe some sex as well was very much overdue. I nodded to myself, my mind fully happy with how I looked as I grabbed my purse, and walked out into the apartment. I looked into Olivia's nursery as I passed it, and smiled to myself as Tom stood by her cot.
"Come on, my darling, let's go." He smiled at her as he picked her up, our daughter giggling and squealing at the sound of her dad's voice. I chuckled and bit my lip, the sight warming my heart as I carried on into the living room and gave my parents a small smile.
"Okay, is there anything that you need to know?" I asked them as Tom carried Olivia into the living room.
"No, no, we know everything, honey, it's okay." Mum reassured.
"You sure that you're going out like that, sweetie?" dad asked. My eyes widened, as did Tom's as our mouths fell open.
"Dad?!" I scoffed.
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding, I'm sorry, bad joke." He chuckled, making me sigh and roll my eyes at him as he gently took Olivia from Tom.
"Okay, so her milk is in the fridge, her toys are where they always are, usual bedtime, we should be back midday tomorrow at the latest." Tom nodded as he curled his arm around my waist.
"Don't worry, she'll be fine." Mum reassured.
"I know." I sighed and nodded, my heart hurting slightly at the idea that despite both of us knowing that it would come, this was officially mine and Tom's first night away from Olivia.
"See you tomorrow, my love. Mummy and daddy love you." I spoke as I leant down and kissed her cheek.
"See you soon, sweetheart." Tom smiled, my husband also kissing our daughter's cheek as I opened the front door, and the pair of us headed out.
Tom and I walked into Harrison and Haley's house, my eyes widening and my mouth falling open as it looked like a party house.
"Okay...I have to admit that this was not what I was expecting for a thirtieth birthday party." I chuckled and shook my head.
"I can't lie, I'm loving it, darling. I feel like I'm back at uni." Tom nodded, making me smile and return it as the thumping music sent vibrations through our chests. Tom put his hand on my lower back and started to lead me through the crowds in the house in search of Haley of Harrison. As if on cue, Haley appeared in front of us as she rushed towards us.
"You guys made it!" she squealed as she tightly hugged me before hugging Tom too.
"We wouldn't miss it for the world." I smiled.
"Come on, let's get you sorry pair a drink." She smirked, making me raise my eyebrow at Tom. He shrugged and chuckled, making me sigh as Haley took our hands and pulled us through to the kitchen.
"So, what do you guys want to drink?" Haley asked as we looked at the massive assortment of alcohol that had been set up on her and Harrison's table.
"Vodka coke for me, and whiskey for Tom, please?" I asked.
"Or...we could start with shots." Haley smirked, making our eyes widen as she held up the bottle of vodka.
"Haley, we love you, but we have a baby to get back to tomorrow morning, we can't be getting stupidly drunk tonight." Tom sighed and shook his head.
"So do me and Haz, doesn't stop us. Come on, don't be pussies." She chuckled as she grabbed some shot glasses.
"There they are!" As if on cue, Harrison walked into the kitchen, the boy's arms outstretched and a smile on his lips as he walked up to us.
"Mate, hey, it's great to see you!" Tom laughed as the boys tightly hugged each other.
"Okay, you really can't say no to shots now that we're all here, the original four. Come on." Haley whined playfully as she took my hands into hers. I sighed and bit my lip.
"Fuck it, fine. You're right, we don't know when we'll next get to celebrate like this." I shook my head.
"Fuck yes, babe! Haz and Tom, get your asses over here too!" She exclaimed, making me chuckle and shake my head as she put a shot into each of our hands.
"What have you just gotten us into, my love?" Tom mumbled into my ear, a smirk curling onto my lips as he curled his spare arm around my waist and pulled me into his side as he kissed my head.
"Here's to me being thirty, and all of us remembering to stay young and have fun, no matter how many years of marriage, kids, bullshit jobs that we may have." Haley declared as we all raised our shot glasses.
"Fuck me, I'll drink to that." Tom scoffed, making me laugh as we all clinked our glasses. I put the shot glass to my lips and downed the vodka, my eyes immediately squeezing shut and a cough leaving my lips as the bitter liquid flowed down my throat.
"Fucking hell, that shit is strong." Tom scoffed, all four of us wincing and scrunching our faces up as Tom put the back of his hand to his mouth.
"And with that, I'm going to enjoy my birthday, with my husband. See you loves later." Haley smirked, making Harrison return it and us give her small smiles as the pair of them disappeared back into the crowd. I looked at Tom with raised eyebrows, him chuckling and shaking his head as he curled his arms around my waist.
"I suppose that it's okay for us to enjoy our night too then, isn't it, darling?" He teased, making me smirk and let my heart flutter at Tom's subtle flirting as he looked down at my lips.
"Mhm. I think so." I whispered and nodded, making Tom smirk as he leant in and kissed me.
I stood on the dance-floor, my head fuzzy with alcohol, and my hips swinging to the sound of the music as I waited for Tom to come back with our shots. I turned around as I felt someone grab my waist, my heart fluttering and a smile curling onto my lips as Tom appeared behind me. My husband smirked at me as he held up the two shots, making me return the smirk as I took one of them from him.
"Here's to an amazing night, getting absolutely fucked with my amazing wife." he flirted as we clinked the glasses together.
"Sounds about right." I smirked, making him wink at me as we downed the shots. We coughed and shook our heads, my eyes squeezing shut at the burning in my chest as Tom put the glasses on a nearby surface before curling his arms around my waist. I squealed quietly as he pulled me into his body and landed his hands on my ass, making me stare at him and try not to smirk.
"Tommy, how many drinks have you had?" I chuckled and shook my head. Not that I could talk, my head was also numbed with the alcohol, even Tom's face was slightly blurred given how much I'd drank. He shrugged and looked at my lips.
"Only, like, seven vodka cokes, and a few whiskeys as well as the shots that we've had." He chuckled and shrugged again, his words slurring slightly as he spoke.
"Tommy, you must be off your face!" I laughed. He returned it, his eye closing to wink at me as he pulled me closer and leant down to start kissing my neck. I smirked and tilted my head to give him more access, the space in between my legs starting to tingle as I knew exactly what my husband was trying to initiate here. And, I was going to let him.
"Come on, Tommy, let's go upstairs, yeah?" I asked into his ear, making Tom's breath hitch as I made a point of letting my lips brush against the shell of his ear. His lips curled into a smirk, and he nodded before taking my hand and pulling me up the stairs. We giggled and laughed to each other in our drunken states, Tom's hands seemingly glued to me as we stumbled into one of Haley and Harrison's random rooms. As soon as the door shut behind us, Tom pulled me into his body and leant down to kiss me. I returned it and smirked, my hands curling around his neck and pulling him closer as his hands grabbed my waist. I squealed into the kiss, making Tom laugh and teasingly pull at my lip with his teeth as he picked me up and carried me to the bed. He put me down on it and crawled over me, smiles on both of our lips as he leant down and kissed me again.
Nausea swept through my entire body, my brain harshly pounding against my skull as the hangover took strong hold of my body. I forced my eyes open, the harsh morning sun flooding into the room that Tom and I had ended up in last night. My eyebrows furrowed in pain and I looked around, a groan leaving my lips at my thumping head.
"Jesus fucking Christ." I mumbled as I sat up, my hands holding the sheets against my naked chest.
"Fucking hell." I looked over my shoulder and chuckled quietly as Tom lay there, his arm over his eyes to block out the light.
"Good to know that you feel as shitty as I do." I teased quietly as I lay back down next to him.
"What happened last night?" he asked, his fingers pinching the bridge of his nose as his eyes stayed squeezed shut. I looked down at my body covered in the sheets and Tom's bare chest, my eyebrow raising as it was pretty obvious.
"I think that we got drunk and had sex." I nodded.
"Fuck, I feel twenty-six again." He chuckled as he moved his arm and looked at me.
"Why?" I returned the chuckle as I looked at him with furrowed eyebrows.
"Because this reminds me of the night that we met, my love." He smiled as his chocolate eyes looked at me softly. I returned his smile before leaning in and gently kissing him. He returned it, his lips smiling into it and our eyes fluttering shut as his hand softly cupped my cheek. I smirked and deepened the kiss as I rolled on top of him and straddled him, Tom's hands finding my thighs and moving up them to cup my waist as I moved my kisses to his neck.
"As much as I love where this is going, sweetheart, don't get me started again." Tom chuckled and shook his head.
"Why not?" I hummed against his skin.
"Because we're already late waking up. It's eleven o'clock, darling, and as much as I'd love to stay here all day, we told your parents that we'd be back by noon." He sighed. I returned it and bit my lip as I rolled off of him.
"You're no fun." I pouted teasingly.
"We both know that that's not true." He flirted, making me smirk as he leant down and pecked my lips before he sat up. I reluctantly pulled myself out of bed, Tom pulling on his trousers and me putting his dress shirt on over my dress as we covered ourselves up.
"Can we please get a McDonald's or something on the way home? Because I really need some greasy breakfast." I whined, making Tom laugh and shake his head as he gently took my hand, and we headed out of the room.
"Whatever you want, sweetheart." He smiled. I returned it and bit my lip as we walked down the stairs, and headed into the kitchen. Harrison and Haley looked up at us as we walked in, and both of their eyebrows furrowed.
"What the fuck are you guys doing here?" Harrison scoffed.
"We never went home." I sighed and shrugged as we sat down at the breakfast bar.
"Tom, why are you shirtless, man?" Harrison sighed and shook his head.
"Because Y/N, my beautiful wife, is wearing my shirt." He shrugged, both of us giving Haley small smiles as she placed two cups of much-needed coffee in front of us.
"So, why did you guys stay over?" Haley asked. My eyes widened slightly, a blush starting to creep over my cheeks in embarrassment as Tom and I looked at each other.
"May as well just tell them, sweetheart." He chuckled and shrugged as he curled his arm around my waist. I sighed and looked back at Harrison and Haley.
"Well, we think that we got drunk, and had sex. We woke up in one of your spare rooms five minutes ago." I nodded. Their eyes widened.
"Fuck, guys. Were you planning to do that?" Harrison scoffed.
"It doesn't matter, we're married." Tom chuckled and shrugged again.
"You guys used a condom, right?" Haley asked. My eyes widened, my heart plummeting harshly to my feet at her words. Because, no, we hadn't used any protection. Which considering that Tom and I had decided not to have another baby...was really fucking bad.
"It's fine, Y/N is on birth control." Tom shrugged as he took a sip of his coffee. I gulped and let my eyes waver as Harrison and Haley looked at me. I bit my lip, my heart violently racing in my chest and tears pricking my eyes as I shook my head to tell them the truth. Their eyes widened slightly, and they looked at each other before going back to talking to Tom. I gulped harshly and tried to keep it together, my heart already praying that last night hadn't resulted in me getting pregnant. Not that it would have been intentional, but Tom didn't want another baby, and so it was completely unfair to force him into another one. Though, it didn't look like we had a choice now, either way.
