Chapter Twenty-Four - Positive
~Three months later~

I stood in the bathroom, my lip in between my teeth and my heart pounding so violently in my chest that I felt slightly sick as I waited for the lines on the pregnancy test to come up. I put it down as I waited for the lines to show up and ran my hands through my hair, deep breaths leaving my lips as I did. After all, both Tom and I were desperate for a baby, and had been trying since we decided that we wanted one, four or so months ago now. But this was the first month that I had reason to think that it had worked. I hadn't told Tom this, but I had expected my period last week. It had never come, and then I had started to feel sick and develop weird food cravings too. I had wanted children for long enough to know the common signs of pregnancy, and I was displaying every single one of them.
"Please be positive, please be two lines, for the love of god, please." I mumbled quietly. My eyes widened, a choke leaving my lips and my heart jumping as two lines showed up on the test. Showing positive for pregnancy.
"Shit." I scoffed, a breathless laugh leaving my lips and tears pricking my eyes as I stared at it. I was pregnant, I was actually pregnant. Tom and I were going to be parents, after only a few months of trying too. Now, it was just a matter of telling him that so that we could start this journey together. I puffed out, my heart racing violently and my mind trying to keep my emotions in check as I shoved the test into the drawer before shutting it and looking at my reflection in the mirror. I took a deep breath and bit my lip, tears leaving my eyes as I couldn't help but smile. I was going to be a mother. And already, I felt so much love for the life that I had just found out was growing inside of me. I cleared my throat and wiped my tears in an effort to compose myself before opening the door. I gasped, my eyes widening as I walked straight into Tom's chest.
"Woah!" My husband also exclaimed, his eyes widening and his hands quickly grabbing my arms to stop me from falling due to the impact. We stared at each other with wide eyes, my heart almost exploding out of my chest as he looked at me.
"You okay there, sweetheart?" he chuckled as he looked at me, his eyebrow raised in amusement at my shocked reaction. I gulped harshly and desperately tried to think of an excuse as to why I had been so surprised.
"U-um, yeah." I smiled as I shut the door and stood in front of it as I held the handle. His eyes narrowed, his mouth forming into an 'O' shape as he clearly doubted me.
"What are you hiding?" he returned my smile. My eyes widened further, and I gulped as my heart raced in my chest. Sometimes, I hated how well he knew me.
"I, erm...I was just looking for something, and I sort of made a mess of the bathroom." I lied. I knew that it was a terrible lie, but it was the only plausible one that I could think of.
"Oh, well, I'll tidy it up." He shrugged as he reached around me for the handle.
"No, no, it's fine, I'll sort it out later." I nodded as I stepped back and moved closer to the door so that my back was pressed to the surface. He smirked and shook his head at me as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"What are you hiding, darling?" he smirked and bit his lip.
"Why do I have to be hiding something?" I chuckled and shrugged as I tried to blag my way out of this.
"My love, you forget that we've known each other for five years, I know when you're acting strange." He stated, his lips still curled into an amused smile as he flicked his eyes over my face. I shook my head and bit my lip, my mind having figured out that I was doing more damage by talking, so I was better off just blocking Tom's access to the door.
"You do realise that you're a good few inches smaller than me, and you weigh virtually nothing to me, I can just lift you out of the way if you don't move." He threatened with a nonchalant shrug. I gulped, my mind desperately trying to think of another excuse to use.
"Please, just trust me, Tommy, come on." I sighed.
"Sweetheart, you know that I trust you." He chuckled.
"Then stop acting so suspicious of me, and trust me." I nodded. He chuckled and returned the nod slowly.
"Okay, my love." He spoke before leaning down and pecking my lips.
"Thank you." I sighed as he started to walk away. I let go a breath of relief as I turned around to face the door.
"Psych." I squealed as Tom wrapped his arms around my waist from behind and lifted me up, my husband laughing and me squealing as he carried me away from the door.
"Tom, please, don't!" I whined as he put me down and rushed to the door.
"I know that you're hiding something, love!" He laughed as he turned to face me again.
"Tommy, seriously." I groaned as I rushed to him. He looked at me.
"Seriously, darling, what's so bad that I can't see it?" he chuckled and shook his head. I sighed and stuck my tongue in my cheek as I looked up at him.
"You really want to know?" I scoffed.
"Yes, I want to know!" He laughed. I sighed again and bit my lip.
"I just took a pregnancy test." I admitted, my heart in my throat virtually suffocating me as I tried to read his face. His smile dropped immediately, and his Adam's apple bobbed in a gulp.
"Oh." He mumbled.
"And it came up positive." I nodded. His eyes widened, his mouth falling open at my words.
"I'm pregnant." I stated. He looked at me and his eyes wavered.
"You were hiding...your positive pregnancy test." He muttered. I nodded and bit my lip, the expression on Tom's face being enough alone to tell me that he felt awful for making me tell him after everything.
"Sweetheart, I'm so, so sorry." He sighed as he leant down and hugged me tightly.
"It's okay, I shouldn't have acted so suspicious." I chuckled, Tom nuzzling his face into my hair as I gently combed my fingers through his own curls.
"No, I'm so sorry, I completely ruined the surprise." He mumbled into my hair.
"It doesn't have to be ruined." I spoke as I pulled away. He looked at me with furrowed eyebrows.
"What, darling?" he scoffed. I moved around him and opened the door before heading into the bathroom and grabbing my pregnancy test. I walked out back out to our bedroom, Tom's eyes wavering and his mouth falling open as I held the test up.
"I'm pregnant." I smiled. He quickly returned it before picking me up and burying his face in my hair, making me laugh as he spun me around. We held onto each other for dear life, tears of pure happiness leaving both of our eyes as we celebrated this perfect moment. Tom eventually put me down and gently took my face into his hands.
"We're going to have a baby!" He laughed and shook his head.
"I know!" I squealed in return before taking the back of his neck and kissing him passionately. Tom returned it, both of us smiling into it before he broke the kiss and wrapped his arms tightly around me.
"Tommy!" I yelled as I rushed through the house in desperate search for my heels.
"What?!" Tom shouted back from the kitchen.
"Where are my heels?!" I called back.
"Heels?! What do you need heels for?! We're eating in!" he laughed back, making me playfully roll my eyes as I headed back downstairs and towards the kitchen.
"So? I still want to look nice." I smiled and shook my head as I headed into the room. Tom looked up at me as I walked in, a smile curling onto his lips as his eyes flicked up and down my dress-covered body.
"You look stunning, love. You look as gorgeous as the night that we met." he complimented.
"Stop." I teased, making him smirk and bite his lip as his arm curled around my waist, and I placed my hands against his chest. Tonight, Tom and I were hosting dinner at our house with Haley and Harrison. Little did our best friends know that our entire reason for having them over was to tell them about my pregnancy, and already neither Tom nor I could wait to tell them.
"I figured that this would be one of my last chances to dress up really nicely before I start to gain weight from the pregnancy, so I just went for it." I shrugged.
"Nonsense, my love, you're going to look gorgeous in whatever you wear, even when you're about to give birth. But regardless, you look amazing." he nodded, his gaze flicking between my eyes and my lips as he gently massaged my hips through my dress.
"Thank you, Tommy." I smiled and bit my lip. He returned it before leaning down and kissing me. I returned it and smiled into it, my hand cupping his cheek as he pulled me further into his body. Suddenly, the doorbell rang, making Tom groan as we broke the kiss.
"Let's just cancel on them and have sex instead, come on." He teased, making me laugh and shake my head as he took my hand and started to pull me towards our bedroom.
"Stop it, Tommy. Come on, it's show-time." I smiled, making him teasingly sigh and roll his eyes as I pulled him back to the door instead.
Tom and I sat at our dinner table, Haley and Harrison sitting on the other side as we all ate, talked, and had fun together.
"So, how have you guys been? It feels like we haven't seen you guys in ages." Harrison chuckled as he stuck a forkful of food into his mouth. I bit my lip and looked at Tom, his lips curling into a smile as he gave me the same look.
"We've been really good. We actually have something to tell you guys." Tom spoke, making my smile widen and my heart flutter in my chest as he put his hand on my thigh. Harrison and Haley looked at us, their eyebrows furrowed as they tried to work out what we were about to say.
"Oh my god, are you getting a divorce?" Haley choked. Our eyes widened and we looked at each other, both of us clearly as confused as each other as to why that was our best friend's first thought.
"No, god, why would you think that as the first thing?" I scoffed. Haley paused and squinted her eyes, making me raise an eyebrow at her.
"Sorry, go on." She spoke. I sighed and looked at Tom.
"Y/N is pregnant." He smiled. Harrison and Haley's eyes widened.
"Oh my god, that's amazing! Guys, congrats!" Harrison laughed.
"That's so much better than you getting divorced!" Haley squealed.
"Yeah, I'd fucking hope so." Tom chuckled and shook his head.
"Do you know the sex yet?" Haley asked.
"No, I'm only two months along, so I haven't even had my first scan yet." I shrugged.
"Well, congratulations, guys. You're joining the parents club!" Haley squealed, making us smile and look at each other.
"Yeah, we are. And I already can't wait." Tom nodded, his eyes flicking over my face as he took my hand and gently rubbed his thumb over the back of my hand. I returned it and bit my lip, tears pricking my eyes at the idea in just months, we'd be parents. We'd finally be parents.
