Chapter Five - The first date

I sat in front of the TV, watching some crappy show as I tried to wish my evening away. It had been three days since Haley and Harrison's wedding, and I had to admit that I hadn't stopped thinking about Tom since. How perfect our nights spent together were, how special and loved that he had made me feel already. All I had to do now was wait for him to call. But there was also the fact of what Harrison had pulled me aside to tell me, the morning after the wedding. The slightly less wanted fact that Tom apparently used to not be one for commitment...but then also the statement that Tom already thought that I was it for him. I was his one. And so I definitely needed to see where things would go with him. I just hoped that they'd go where I wanted them to. I looked down as my phone started to ring, making my eyebrows furrowed as it showed an unknown number. I sighed as I picked it up and answered it.

"Hello?" I spoke.

"Hey, my love." My lips curled into a smile, my heart fluttering in my chest as I immediately recognised the beautiful and silky voice.

"Well, hello, Tommy." I smiled to myself as I returned the use of a nickname.

"I promised that I'd ring, since we need to plan our date." He chuckled. I bit my lip and looked down, my mind already looking forward to what Tom would suggest as I eagerly listened to him.

"Okay. So, what are we doing?" I asked.

"I'm not telling you." He responded teasingly. My eyebrows furrowed.

"Then why did you ring?" I laughed and shook my head to myself.

"To tell you to dress nicely, darling. Of course you always dress nicely, but maybe wear a dinner dress or something, because where we're going is quite...elegant." He spoke. I rolled my eyes playfully but smiled and shook my head as I could hear the smirk in his voice. Whatever he had planned, he was clearly very proud of himself for it, the fact of which was only making me more excited for the date.

"Okay. So, dress nice." I nodded and repeated his words.

"Yes. I'll pick you up at eight tomorrow, is that okay, sweetheart?" he asked.

"That's fine." I replied.

"Okay. I'll see you tomorrow then, love." He spoke softly. I smiled and bit my lip as I looked down at my fingers. I felt like a giddy school girl already, and the date wasn't even until tomorrow. But I was taking that as a good sign, of course.

"Great. See you tomorrow, Tommy." I replied before hanging up. I bit my lip, my heart starting to race again at the idea of going out with Tom. I knew that I had only known him for a month, but I felt like we had already developed such a genuine connection, one that was clearly holding up to our lack of time having actually talked and been together. And so, I couldn't wait to explore that more.

I stood in front of my mirror, my fingers moving the red lipstick around my lips to complete my look as I finished getting ready for my date with Tom. I rubbed it around by pressing my lips together before checking my final look. I nodded at my appearance, my confidence admittedly soaring at how my black cocktail dress looked against my skin, paired with my curled hair, dark eyes and strappy heels. Tom was going to love how I looked, and if he didn't, the date was off. I grabbed my purse and headed through to the living room, my heels clicking against my floors as I walked. As if on cue, the doorbell rang. I bit my lip, my heart harshly racing in anticipation of what lay ahead of me as I walked to the door. I was finding myself getting deeper feelings for Tom more with every interaction that we were having, and so I really wanted this date to go well. I took a deep breath before opening the door. Tom stood there, hands shoved in his suit trouser pockets as he looked up. His eyes widened as he looked at me and he pulled his hands out of his pockets, me having the same reaction as I skimmed my eyes up and down his body. Even though he was wearing a suit that was very similar to the ones that he'd worn at the rehearsal dinner, and then the wedding itself, I would never get tired of seeing him like this.

"Wow." He scoffed as his eyes ran up and down my body.

"Do I look okay?" I smiled sheepishly. Tom raised his gaze to look back at my face, his eyes slightly wide and his lips parted before he cleared his throat.

"Yeah, yeah, you look amazing, love. Yeah." He nodded. I smiled and bit my lip, butterflies exploding in my stomach at the fact that I had clearly already had such an effect on him.

"Why thank you. You don't look too shabby yourself." I teased with a chuckle. He returned the chuckle and bit his lip before holding out his arm.

"Are you ready to go?" he asked.

"Yeah." I smiled, both of us moving out of my apartment and me shutting the door before looping my arm around Tom's.

We walked into the restaurant, our hands together and our fingers intertwined as we walked in. My eyes widened, my mouth falling open as I saw just how fancy and beautiful it was. Turned out that Tom had been right to tell me to dress especially nice for our date tonight.

"Wow, Tommy. This is a really nice place, how did you find it?" I scoffed and shook my head as I let my eyes wander over the gorgeous chandelier that lit up the room, and the garlands of fake leaves and flowers that wrapped around the pillars to make it feel like a garden.

"My parents took me here to celebrate getting my first major acting job as an adult, and I've loved it ever since. I come here whenever I'm celebrating something." He nodded. I looked at him with furrowed eyebrows.

"What are we celebrating?" I chuckled.

"You saying yes to me." He smiled. I returned and shook my head, everything that Tom did just making my heart warm up and flutter with love for him as we walked to the table and sat down. We both got settled, a comfortable silence filling the space as we got given the menus.

"So, how did you and Harrison meet?" I asked as we started looking at the menus.

"Wow, straight in with the questioning, huh." He smiled, making me smirk and shake my head as I continued to look for something that I wanted to eat.

"It's a pretty standard case of our mums knowing each other from their pregnancies with us, so we were born into friendship with each other. We've been best mates for the last twenty-five years, and I wouldn't change it, or him, for the world. Okay, maybe I'd change his stupid preference for 'Batman' over 'Spider-Man', but that's it." He teased with a nod, making me laugh at his words.

"That's so nice." I chuckled and nodded.

"What about you? How did you and Haley meet?" he asked.

"Same story, really. Our parents were in the same pregnancy class when they were expecting us, and they stayed in touch after we were born. We've also been best friends since birth, pretty much." I nodded.

"Wow. Who knew that we had so much in common, even down to how we met our best friends?" He smiled cheekily.

"Please, you're just saying that so that I'll let you back into my pants." I flirted.

"Is it working?" He returned. I bit my lip and flicked my eyes over the top of the menu to look at him, the boy returning the lip bite as he raised his eyebrow.

"...maybe." I answered after a moment, making Tom smirk and wink at me as the waiter approached our table, and we started to order our drinks.

"Oh my god, I'm afraid that my dress will break at the seams if I move." I puffed out, making Tom laugh as I sat back in the chair and held my hands against my stomach.

"That was an incredible meal. Though, it always is here, and the company made it ten times better this time around." he nodded as he looked at me. I smiled and bit my lip, my cheeks heating up like they always did as a result of Tom's compliments as the waiter passed our table, and put the bill down. I sat up to get it, my eyebrows furrowing as Tom grabbed it first.

"Tom, you don't have to pay. I don't mind paying, or we can split it if that would make you more comfortable." I shook my head.

"Are you joking? Of course I'm paying. This is my treat, to you." he smiled.

"Tom, are you sure?" I sighed and looked at him. Whilst it was lovely that he was offering to pay, I didn't want him to think that I was already setting the standard of him paying for our dates alone, because of course that wasn't what I wanted. But he was being so kind with it, and I had a feeling that I wouldn't get anywhere in trying to convince him to at least let me share the bill with him.

"I'm sure, love. If I wasn't fine to pay it all, I wouldn't have offered." he reassured with a shake of his head. I sighed again and looked at him.

"Well, thank you. I really do appreciate it." I nodded as I gave him a small smile

"I know that you do, sweetheart, it's okay." He returned it and nodded as he put the correct amount of money down in bills.

"You ready to go?" Tom checked as he looked back at me.

"Yeah." I smiled as I stood up. He returned it and also stood up as he grabbed his jacket from the back of his chair. I walked around to his side of the table, a smile spreading onto my lips as he took my hand and intertwined our fingers as soon as I got to him. I looked up at him and bit my lip.

"Is this okay?" he asked gently, his gorgeous chocolate eyes flicking over my face like they always did as he checked for any hint that I wasn't comfortable with what he had done.

"Yeah, Tommy. It's fine." I reassured with a small smile. He returned it and nodded, making me sigh in bliss and gently take his arm with my other hand as he started to lead us out.

"I still feel bad, it was our first date, you should have at least let me split it with you." I sighed as Tom and I walked along the corridor of my building to my apartment, our hands having been joined since we left the restaurant as we walked

"Exactly, it was our first date, hence why I didn't let you even touch your purse." He smiled. I returned it and shook my head at his words. Tom had been nothing short of an absolute gentleman for the whole night, the boy having done everything for me from pulling out my chair, to having opened the doors to both his car and my building for me, and of course footing the bill for dinner. And it wasn't exactly a cheap dinner. My heart sank slightly as we approached my door, none of me wanting this date to end. But I guessed that it had to eventually.

"So, this is me." I nodded as we stopped in front of my apartment door. Tom returned the nod and gave me a small smile as he curled his arms around my waist.

"So, did you have a good time?" he asked.

"It was lovely, Tommy. I really had fun with you." I smiled. He returned it and nodded.

"Good, because so did I. And, if you're ready for it, I'd love to take you out more. I'd love to be your boyfriend." He admitted quietly, his gaze flicking over my face as he did. My smile dipped slightly as he spoke. This should have been a happy moment, I had been waiting for this since I'd first slept with Tom. And yet Harrison's words from the morning after the wedding were still ringing in my ear. The fact that Tom had apparently been quite the player in his time. Of course I had no issue with his past, it was none of my business how many people he'd slept with before me. But ultimately, if his past as a player would affect his loyalty to me, and how likely he was to do that again, I wanted to stop my heart from being broken before it happened. But at the same time, Tom had been nothing but a gentleman for the entire time that we'd spent together. He'd never even so much as looked at the waitress who had served us, apart from the standard thanking smile. Not to mention that I could already tell that he was worth the potential pain. I already really liked him, maybe even loved him, and so I had to take that jump. I had to.

"Are you sure?" I asked. His eyebrows furrowed at the question.

"What do you mean?" he scoffed.

"I don't know. It's just that you seem like a one-night-stand kind of guy." I teased so that I wouldn't accidentally drop Harrison in it. Tom chuckled and nodded as he bit his lip.

"I am. Well, I am until the right girl comes along." He returned as he looked into my eyes. I smiled at him and bit my lip at him. If he was saying that I was the right girl, the right girl to make him commit, then I had to believe him and give him that chance.

"Alright. If you're ready, I'm ready." I nodded.

"Okay, then." He smiled before letting me go and getting down on one knee in front of me. My eyes widened.

"Will you be my girlfriend?" he smiled cheekily as he looked up at me. I breathed a sigh of relief and rolled my eyes at him as I laughed and shook my head.

"You fucking asshole-yes, I'll be your girlfriend." I smirked and shook my head.

"You didn't actually think that I was going to propose, did you, sweetheart? Or were you hoping that I was?" He teased as he stood back up and gently curled his arms back around my waist.

"You got down on one knee, excuse me for thinking that that was where you were going." I giggled as I rested my hands against his chest.

"I'm afraid that I need more than one date and a couple of hook-ups to pop the question, darling. Though, I'm sure that it'll happen eventually." He smiled. I playfully rolled my eyes and smirked as he leant in and kissed me softly. I returned it, my eyes fluttering shut as I held his face in my hands. He broke the kiss and looked at me, making me gulp and bite my lip as a realisation suddenly hit me. And that was that I wasn't ready yet for this date to end.

"Do you want to come in?" I asked. Tom raised his eyebrows at the question, telling me that he was slightly shocked that I had asked him. Though, come to think of it, it had been him who had initiated our first two hook-ups, so maybe that was why he hadn't been expecting me to invite him in.

"To do what? Play cards?" he chuckled. I laughed and looked at him.

"Yes. To play cards." I nodded. He smirked and bit his lip at the fact that I was playing along with what seemed to already be an inside joke for us.

"I would love to." He smiled. I returned it, my gaze flicking in between his gorgeous eyes and insanely kissable lips as I opened my door and let us in.

"Wow. You've got a nice place." Tom chuckled as he looked around.

"Thanks. It was a graduation present from my parents, which they insisted that I take. Though, I doubt that it's anything compared to the several lovely apartments that you definitely have." I teased, making him smirk and shake his head as I took my jacket off, and stepped out of my heels. Tom looked at me with raised eyebrows.

"Wow." He chuckled.

"What?" I smiled. He shrugged as he walked up to me and looked down, a teasing smile on his face as he stuck his hands into his trouser pockets.

"I've just never seen you without heels on. You're so small." He chuckled. My eyes widened.

"I'm not, I'm five three!" I laughed.

"Yeah, that's tiny! I mean, I'm not a tall guy, and yet you're still somehow shorter than even me by quite a bit." He smirked.

"Shut up." I returned the smirk before leaning up and kissing him. He returned it, his hands holding my waist as I rested mine against his chest. I broke the kiss and gave him a small smile before turning away from him. Tom bit his lip, the boy so entranced with me that it was making my heart flutter as I gently took his hand and started to walk towards my room. I led him in, Tom shutting the door behind us.

"Wait." I spoke as I turned around to face him.

"What's wrong?" he asked softly, his eyes flicking over my face in concern as he curled his arms around my waist. I shook my head as I rested my hands against his chest again.

"Nothing, I just...I want to take this time slower than before. I know that it's silly, but..."

"No, it's okay. You don't have to explain yourself, and it's definitely not silly." He reassured with a shake of his head. I nodded and gave him a small smile before slowly leaning up and pressing our lips together. He returned it as he curled his arms further around my waist, and landed his hands against the small of my back. There was something different about the way that he was kissing me, this time. It wasn't lustful and desperate like it had been the first few times. This time, it was passionate, slow, like he wanted us to be like this forever. I broke the kiss and looked up at him. He looked down at my lips, his own curled into a small smile as he started to undo his tie. I began to undo his dress shirt, prompting him to shrug his jacket off of his shoulders. A comfortable silence filled my room as we started to undress each other, Tom pulling his shirt off before curling his arms back around my waist and using his hands on my back to pull the zip down on my dress. It fell to my feet and he picked me up bridal style, making me smile and bite my lip as he carried me to the bed and put me down gently before crawling over me.

"You okay, beautiful?" he asked, his gorgeous chocolate eyes looking up at me through his eyelashes as he gently kissed my stomach.

"You know that I am." I nodded. He smiled and returned the nod, making me bite my lip and become engulfed in the feeling that I already loved as he gently kissed down my body.
