Chapter4: Breakthrough
Chapter4-Breakthrough
September 30th, 2011
It’s now afternoon. Bailey had been recovering in her own room. Earlier, she asked if she could go see Justin, but the doctors wouldn’t let her. They told her that her injuries were very serious. So she decided to wait a while by sleeping it off.
Now she’s awake, but still very much in pain. She saw the nurse writing notes. So she took the opportunity by asking, “So, how am I?”
She replied, “Your vital signs are starting to improve, but you still need to stay in the hospital for, at least, a week.”
“Since I’m doing better, can I go see Justin?”
She answered flatly, “No, you can’t. It’s only been a few hours. You think you’d recover that quickly?"
Bailey pleaded, “Please, let me see Justin! Just put me in a wheelchair! I put him in the hospital, and I feel awful about what I did. I really need to see him!”
“No. Maybe tomorrow, but you need to rest.”
Bailey thought for a moment, and asked, “Can you, at least, give me my phone?”
The nurse gave her the cracked, but workable, iPhone. Then the nurse left the room. Bailey tried to call Justin. His phone rang, and it was answered. She heard a voice that belong to a British guy, “Hello?”
“Justin?” she asked.
“Bailey?” Justin asked.
“It’s so good to hear your voice!”
“Same here.”
“How you doing?”
“Okay, I guess. I’m in pain, but sleeping it off helps.”
“I want to see you so bad!”
“Me too, but the doctor’s aren’t letting me. They say my injuries are too serious, or something. I don’t know. I was pretty much on painkillers to not really pay attention.”
“Same here.”
Then Bailey thought of an idea. She switched to texting, and this was the conversation:
BR: I have an idea.
JH: What is it?”
BR: First, how bad are your injuries?
JH: I don’t know. Bad? I’m in pain, and I got wires sticking out of me. You tell me.
BR: Me too. Anyway, what if 1 of us sneak out, and we go to each other’s room?
Justin thought for a moment, then he texted back:
JH: Can you move without groaning in pain?
Bailey, who was sitting up, tried to move her legs. She winced in pain as her back and her legs burned and stung her. It was too painful to move. She texted back Justin:
BR: Can you move without wincing in pain?
Justin did the same thing, and he was in much pain as Bailey was. Then he texted her:
JH: Fuck this. I’m going to your room. I’ll try to pull out the wires, and see if I get a wheelchair.
BR: No, I’ll go to your room. It’s the least that I could do. I was the one who put you in this hospital.
JH: You’re sure?
BR: Yeah.
So Bailey slowly pulled out the wires. She was able to successfully. Then she moved her bandaged body to the side of her bed. She started walking, but barely. She was limping. She saw some folded clothes on a chair. It had a note from Alyson. It said, “These clothes are for you to wear instead of that god-awful hospital clothes. You need to look like a popstar, not a broken star =D”
Bailey smiled and laughed to herself. Even though the two girls were opposites (Bailey is laidback, down-to-earth person; while Alyson is flashy and wild), they were still best friends. All of a sudden, she felt guilty.
She was barely there for her friend when Alyson was going through her breakup with Andrew. She made Alyson feel completely alone. It was like she had no one, even though she’s great friends with the other members. But no one was as close to her as both Bailey and Andrew were. She decided to apologize to Alyson as soon as she comes to visit.
Bailey changed into her torn, faded Hollister jeans and her Aeropostale tee. She put on her worn-out Converse sneakers. Soon she snuck out of her room, limping away. She made sure she didn’t see any doctors. She texted Justin where his room was. He told her it was down the hall.
Soon, after what seemed like long, painful minutes, Bailey snuck into Justin’s room. He smiled as he saw her. She noticed that he was wearing jeans and a tee also.
Bailey approached him, wanting to kiss him, but she stopped herself. Justin noticed she looked sad, so he asked, “What’s wrong?”
She replied, “I forgot that you might be gay.”
“Don’t you remember what I told you? I love you. I only went gay cuz I was frustrated with you. But I shouldn’t have done that to you. I should’ve been there for you, not push you away. I was the one who led you to get us into a car accident.”
“No, it was me. I was drunk, and you obviously tried to stop me from driving. But I apparently didn’t listen to you. So, here we are.”
The two shared longing eyes. They both wanted to kiss each other. Then Justin said, “Fuck what happened to us this year. I’m gonna kiss you.”
So Justin leaned in, and kissed Bailey’s lips. They both felt passion again. There was no shock. Just love. They haven’t felt this way in a long time. They didn’t even know why they drifted apart, leading to their breakup. But now it feels like they’re back.
As they pulled away, Bailey said breathlessly, “I miss you, Justin.”
He said, also breathlessly, “I miss you too, Bailey.”
Then as she caught her breath, she said, “I’m going to rehab. I need to stop my hard, partying ways. It’s been affecting my relationships with friends, especially with Alyson. She’s my best friend, but I abandoned her when she was going through her breakup with Andrew. I pushed you away when you were concerned for me.
“I don’t want to be another fallen teen star. I was on the verge of hitting rock bottom, but this accident made me realize how I’m affecting, not only the band, but also myself. I need to get better, for the sake of myself and my friends who are in 7th Anthem.”
Justin smiled, knowing Bailey was making the right choice in her life. He said to her, “I’ll support you anyway I can. And I’m sure everyone else will have your back.”
The two kissed again. Then Bailey laid in Justin’s arms. Soon, they both fell asleep. It was like they never broke up. Maybe they’ll get back together? Only time will tell.
