Alive Forever

The blood covered her face, making her eyes blind within the sight of revenge she longed for, more than anything, feeling the human inside of her decomposing due to unbearable sorrow that was entering her broken heart. Ignoring the pain, fear, ignoring the danger that was surrounding her, Zorya howled at her enemies cutting them one by one, there was no hint of compassion inside of her merciless eyes.

"Darius!" Zorya yelled, as his name became a battle scream. Zorya could not find him on the battlefield and she knew, that if she lost him and ended up all alone, she would crumble, she would never be able to move on.

But this is a war.

Brothers die, friends as well, and lovers might never come back because there wasn't anything else, more cruel on this world then the war because it wasn't created by the Gods, but by the wicked humans, who won't be happy until they end up killing everyone in the world.

Zorya felt her strength betraying her, but she didn't want to end her fight, with every life she took away, she felt more angry, almost praying for Morena, cold goddess of winter to freeze out all her feelings, and allow her to simply become a weapon.

"Come here! Fight me!" Zorya screamed at the cold-eyed Earl that killed her wolf, wanting to taste the revenge, Zorya strike him with her axe.

The man was almost twice as big as her, and as twice as stronger, but Zorya, she was faster, and she wanted to use her speed as her biggest advantage, even with a wounded leg, she was already used to the pain, so she hopped it won't slow her down.

"Where is your Queen?" Darius asked one of the soldiers, hopping that he will finally earn his answer. With his eyes, he could not find her within the mass of soldiers.

"Brother!" Jonah yelled at Darius after seeing Zorya trying to take on the Earl.

"Take me to her now!!!" Darius ordered.

"Follow me." Avram said.

Together, the tree of the brothers, made their way through the death, to the Queen, that was rushing to her own doom, in the fight where she was too wounded to win, too slow, what she was doing was a suicide considering the condition she was in.

"Take her from the battlefield." Darius ordered his brothers.

"Darius..." Jonah tried cutting him of.

"Do as I say!" Darius yelled.

Both, Avram and Jonah suddenly found themselves grabbing Zorya and trying to take her away from the fight, she was not capable of seeing anymore bloodshed today, she was not capable of fighting anymore.

"Let me go! I want his head!" Zorya screamed trying to kick the two of them away from her.

"And you shall have it my Queen." Darius said to her.

Kreshnik was nowhere to be seen, so he understood what happened.

"I am sorry, but you harm my Queen, so I must bring her your head." Darius said to the Earl.

"Come and take it, you blind idiot!" Earl answered, before their weapon meet in the dangerous fight for something that was so much bigger than the honor itself.

In the dark and cold room, filled with fear of the woman, children and old man who could not participate in the battle, Zorya was taken inside by the two of the brothers, as her legs and arms were shaking with rage and emotions she could not disown no matter what she done.

The Queen walked among the people holding her head up high and the bloody weapon in her hand. Zorya refused any help, as she walked over to her throne and sat down closing her eyes for a moment.

"My Queen, you need a medical assistance." Jonah warned her.

"I shall wait for my king first." Zorya answered.

Nobody dared to say a word, nobody dare to ask a question, in fear that they may disturb the grieving of the broken Queen.

Soon, the army of King Darius came back in the city, singing the songs about the victory they achieved in the battle against pagans who tried to take away their holly kingdom. People celebrated upon seeing the happy faces of their loved ones, knowing that they are going to be safe from harm.

"People of Walnia!" Darius called them, making the immediately stop speaking, and turn their attention to the King.

"The Vikings left our lands carrying their dead back home, because we stand against them together, with help of our strength, with the help of our weapon, and...Our Queen who made our victory possible." Darius said approaching Zorya who was sitting on the throne.

"As promised, I protected our lands, and I bring you my love, head of your enemy." Darius said as one of the soldiers carried the head of the Earl who killed Kreshnik.

After seeing those eyes, of her enemy that was now dead, Zorya was sure that the justice was satisfied.

Zorya managed to get up from the throne where she was sitting, she managed to walk over to Darius and allow herself to fall in his arms.

"Thank you." Zorya whispered before turning back to the people.

"Tonight we shall burry our own dead that we lost in the battle."

Later that day, after the medic took care of Zorya's wounds, and the wounds to everyone who earned them on the battle, the bodies of the fallen soldiers of Walnia were taken back home to be buried among their ancestors.

"Zorya." Darius said walking inside the chambers the two of them were sharing, just to find her wearing black, to let everyone see her sorrow.

"What is it?"

"We found body of Kreshnik but I don't think he is as dead as you consider him to be." Darius said.

"What are you talking about?" Zroya asked him with a frown on her face.

"Beside his body, there was a she-wolf, crying for his death, howling so painfully, that I simply could not listen to her. When we placed Kreshnik's body in a carriage, she tried to run after it." Darius spoke and Zorya immediately jumped at his words, Kreshnik had been spending time in the forest, alone sometimes and she would wonder where was he, but could this mean...

"The She-Wolf is I believe, pregnant, and I believe that your loyal friend will remain alive through her." Darius answered.

"Where is she?"

"She is being taken care of by our medics, she shall be just fine." Darius answered.

"Thank you so much, for everything you done for me today Darius." Zorya whispered approaching her husband, ready to throw herself into his arms.

"Don't thank me Zorya, I would do it again a hundred times if I had to." Darius answered with a smile holding her close to him.

"The people are waiting for us." Darius warned before taking her hand in his, taking his Queen to  join their people on the most terrifying but beautiful place, they called "graveyard" where they shall say goodbye to those who shall never come back.

The crying faces, the screaming voices, of those who lost something that was most valuable to them, the woman were holding onto their warrior Queen as their hope that someday, they shall learn to defend those that they love.

The bloodcurdling song of the priests, combined with the screams of the widows, and mothers who lost their husbands, creating the haunting atmosphere, they were so afraid of the death.

The soldiers raised up their sword to say goodbye to their fallen friends, and so did Zorya, saying goodbye to Kreshnik who was buried as a hero who died in the battle, giving his body to the Earth of Walnia.

The children placed the most beautiful flowers on the grave of Kreshnik, while Zorya placed the grass that she kept from Gora Nevskaya.

Maybe that will help his spirit feel like home.

Soon, a most beautiful she wolf, whose body was as white as a snow, and whose eyes were as red as blood, made her way to Zorya, holding her head up high in her loss, just like She-Wolf of Walnia.

"Well done girl, hold your head up high and be strong, us queens, must do that no matter what." Zorya said touching her beautiful fur, feeling a new friendship that is about to begin, feeling a lump on her belly.

The She-Wolf stood by Zorya's side until the ceremony ended, and then left her to lay down by the grave of Kreshnik.

"I never saw animals having such a bond." Darius said watching the she-wolf.

"That is because you never looked deep enough, everything in the nature is filled with love, love that makes you alive forever." Zorya answered him making him smile at her words.

Many songs were sang about the Queen of Walnia and how bravely she fought in the battle to protect the Christians, about how she made the Vikings walk on the burning ice, many songs were written about bravery of Walnian soldiers, about King Darius who fought blindly for his people and for his love.
