Chapter 3

   "Herin, man, get up! It's your first school day today!" Ire yelled, shaking his roommate. Herin let out a grown, but got up anyways. He trudged to the bathroom and splashed some water on his face. Looking up, he sees himself in the mirror. He had bags under his eyes from staying up and looking at the stars. Ire didn't know about his habit, so it was very stressful trying not to wake him up, though it seemed like he could sleep through a bomb going off. He started brushing the hair in front of his face as Ire walked in, putting his hair in the ponytail that he always wore. Actually, it seems that he only wears the red shirt and yellow book bag, nothing else. He just shrugged it off and grabbed his brown satchel off of his bed, satchel because he has no arms to keep a backpack up with. He turned to Ire, who was putting a few books in his book bag.

   "So, what class do you have first?" Ire asked, starting to head for their door. "I can hopefully lead you to all of them."

   Herin pulled the paper he had found sliden under the door. "Um, it says physics? What is physics for?" He said, putting the slip back in his pack.

   "For the people who can fly, or for the students who are new. Lucky you, I know a kid in there, his name is Ian. He's a real nice guy. He's got an orange-brown beanie, purple hair, yellow turtleneck, and nice brown wings." Ire said, walking down the hallway now.

   "Oh, I know Ian! He was playing with some kids and they were playing Skyball. He does seem like a nice guy." Herin explained while they now turned the corner into the main hall. the banners were taken down, to be cleaned guessed Herin.

   "Well, here we are. There is your class. I will come pick you up for your next class ok? See you then!" Ire then started jogging away waving to Herin. He smiled and waved back. He turned back towards the door as Ire turned the corner.

   Herin took a deep breath and pushed open the door to walk in. The room had a very tall ceiling with the back of the room stretching way into the back. Looking at the students, nearly all of them had some sort of wings. Herin saw all different colors of bird, bat, dragonfly, dragon, and butterfly, with a bunch of other types of wings. But somehow, Herin could identify all the different types of bird wings, even if they are a different color then usual. But some of the students had no wings at all, and as far as Herin knew, he was the only new student.

   The teacher at the front cleared her voice and he turned to her. She had on a pink dress fading into black, circular glasses with yellow tints in the glass, a low bun, and majestic blue dragon wings with the tips fading into an orange. She motioned for him to come over to her. When he got to her, she put an arm around his shoulder, facing the class. Herin could see all the eyes on him, and him alone.

   Out of all the what seemed like 30 faces, 2 stood out the most. Well, one wasn't even looking at him. That face belonged to a boy with long black hair, a dark gray t-shirt, brown shorts, and big gray bat wings. He also had gray-ish brown skin with a tattoo with a very intricate design. The other face belonged to Ian. He gave Herin a small wave as to reassure him that it is ok, and Herin waved back using his scarf, as to be discreet but nearly all the students looking at him must have noticed 'cause a huge gasp was heard by everyone in the room. Herin shrank in on himself, taking a few steps back. The teacher noticed and shushed the class.

   "I'm sorry dear, I bet you are feeling a bit overwhelmed. Just know if you ever need to take a breather just step right outside the door. Now, may I ask, what is your name?" The teacher asked, lowering herself to Herin's eye level.

   "My name is Herin, ma'am." He said, looking straight into her emerald green eyes.

   "Very nice name, mine is Mrs. Kalvey." She said, giving him a firm but soft smile. She turned back to the class. "Class, this is Herin. He is a new student here, so if he is having problems, be patient. Herin, you will be seated next to Acusan up here in the front." She gestured to a boy sitting in the front with olive green curls, green blue dragonfly wings, and a sky blue shawl. Herin walked over to his seat, still feeling the eyes on the back of his head, but he just ignored them. Class started and was going smoothly, but Herin could still feel all the eyes on him. Soon it got overwhelming.

   "Mrs. Kalvey? May I go out into the hall?" Herin asked, looking at the door and back at Mrs. Kalvey as she answered.

   "Yes dear, that is fine." She replied, giving Herin a concerned look. Herin bowed his head and walked out the door. He sat down right outside the door and found the hall empty. After about 2 minutes sitting there, the door opened. Herin quickly got up, only to find Ian looking straight at him.

   "I'm sorry, did I scare you? I'll go back in." Ian said in a flurry, reaching for the door handle, but was stopped by Herin, which seemed to surprise both boys.

   "No, please stay. I mean, if you want to, that is." Herin said letting go of Ian's wrist. He sat down and moved his back over to make Ian some room. After a bit in silence, Ian spoke up.

   "Listen, I'm sorry for waving at you. I didn't think you would wave back, especially with your scarf. I just wanted to let you know that we are all friendly here." Ian said, picking out a feather from his wing.

   "Why are you apologizing for that? It's just a habit of mine to be shy of myself. The people that were taking care of me have a son that always made me self conscious. I also was fostered at one point into a very terrible family. It is not your fault in the slightest." Herin said, giving Ian a weird look for thinking it was his fault.

   "Mm. Well, I better get back to class, and you should too. Just take your time." With that Ian got up and was about to open the door but turned to face Herin one more time before going in. "I'll tell Mrs. Kalvey that you are going to come in when your ready."

~~~~~~~~~~
   Herin did end up going back into class. The rest of it went on really smoothly and he actually got comfortable with all the eyes, and learned to forget them. At the end when the bell rang, him and Ian walked out of the class talking and laughing.
   "Well, looks like you have made a friend." Ire said with a smirk. "Your not replacing me, are you Herin."
   Herin let out a small laugh at his roommate. "No, no, not in the slightest. I would never do such a thing. How dare you think that way!" All three of them then burst into laughter.
   "Well Herin, what is your next class?" Ire asked.
   "Ummmmm, MCC. MCC? What does that mean?" Herin asked, showing his paper to Ian and Ire.
   "Oh, that means Mythical Creature Care. I wonder what will be assigned to you." Ian said, as if it were an everyday thing to say.
   "Mythical creature? What do you mean, mythical creature?!" Herin said, nearly yelling. This brought a lot of attention, and Herin started to shrink back at it all. The boys both noticed and Ire put his non crystal arm around Herin's shoulder and Ian ruffled his hair, to make him feel a bit better.
   "Dude! It took me three minutes to do my hair!" Herin jokes, trying to put it back how it was.
   "Whatever, we gotta get going or we will be late to class." Ire grabbed Herin's a hand and started pulling one direction. He quickly waved to Ian, and chased after Ire.
