Part 1: The Oceans Chapter One

Landon

After nearly two decades of living I actually thought I had seen everything a person needed to see. Big and small, experience. I've went skydiving, skiing, swimming competitions. I thought I had done it all. Of course I was wrong.

No person could ever experience everything the world has to offer.

I was 19, I'm Landon Hart. Okay, can we just get into the story next now?

Well, we already did. I was walking down to the docks to fish, fishing bait and rod in hand.

It was a late evening, a warm spring day. The winds were blowing, Everyone was at home with their families. So no one was at the docks. I was... adopted. I don't know where I actually came from but my foster parents encouraged me to forget about the ancestry, so I tried to keep it off my mind.

The fishing rod's string dangled in the air. The waters bubbled and I stared silently at the spot. A big roar came from below, my was pounding right at my chest. It looked like a lion, jumping out from the waters. Lions don't look see through. It looked like little water vapours together, forming a water animal. A amphibian.

The water dragged me down into the cold sea. Air was escaping me rapidly, big bubbles turned into small bubbles and small bubbles turned into nothing.

Death. I was gonna die. A spiral of bubbles pulled me deeper into the dark ocean. It was like a tornado in the water.

My vision was clear but blurry. My head hit the ground somewhere. Somehow I could feel the sand almost, crawl onto my hair. Like quick sand, I fell though into the sand. I couldn't see anything. Nothing. Just darkness.

* * * * *

My eyes opened wide as I sat myself up, a blanket was over me and yet I felt cold. Wet. My clothes were damp.

"You've been sleeping for a while." Someone said, I turned to face the direction of the sound. A girl with fire red hair and vivid blue eyes standing there. She was wearing a skin tight Leather Jumpsuit.

"Who are you?" I asked wearily. "Elizabella Anne Kwiatkowski, you can call me Eliza. But I'm more interested in how you got here Landon..." my eyebrows furrowed as I stared deeply at her. "How do you know my name?" "I don't know, you ask me." She put her hand on the desk drawer next to me, studying me like a hawk.

"Well... where am I?" I stood up, "You should sit down. Your body is still healing from the trauma." "What trauma?" I questioned, a ache zapped me like lightning. "Ah!" I groaned.

I'm hurt and she's standing there staring at me? Who does she think she is?

"You're at Atlantis, city of water. More specifically, my house. It's kind of extraordinary that you survived ten minutes in water." I cocked my head and chuckled, "that's a good joke. I'll use that later." I laughed at her. "Ten minutes! That's a great joke." "It was no joke." She sternly grabbed my hand, twisting it to the right.

"What the-"I yelled in pain. "One thing that you should know that is always true. I'm always right, so you better start to trust my opinion. I'll explain to you everything."

After all of this I don't think Elizabella is a person you wouldn't wanna know. I shut my mouth, listening to every word she says. "We are living under water, 36,016 feet to be exact. We both are breathing under water." "Wait what." I said, "You are breathing normally underwater." "Wha-" her hand was put in front of me, stopping me from talking.

"How old are you?" She asked, a weird tone in her voice. "19," I replied, "I expected that answer. Phibians at and over the age of 18 must go to the matchmaker. I don't like the name, in fact I don't wanna go. A week from now all 18 or 19 year olds will need to go to the amphitheater. You will be matched with a amphibian. There's no other way, you can't fight it."

"1. I'm straight 2. What do you mean by phibian? 3. How did I survive?" She let out a big sigh. Sitting down on the couch next to me. "Phibians are amphibians and humans or primates together. Since we live under water. Humans and amphibians have joined, creating phibians. Mermaids are fake. Phibians are humans that have small scales imprinted on your skin forever, almost like tattoos. They may have frightening eyes, like frogs. To answer your last question, I don't know how you lived. The sea bass told us that someone was on our land but if it was a human, they would have died already. No human can breath that long unless they practice. Considering that you are a young adult, it makes it even harder to believe that you lived since your lungs are only starting to stop growing. Your air capacity must be extremely tame." She explained.

My mind was exploding with questions, questions I could even answer myself. I could barely understand anything she said, I was trembling, my hands were shaking and I was collapsing. What the heck is going on in this place?

"I- wait- are you a phibian?" The question was like a tsunami in my head, whirling with answers. "Do I look like a phibian?" She glared at me, "No, you look completely normal." "Exactly," she scolded me, muttering something under her breath I couldn't catch.

"I'll tell you that when you're ready. For now, I want you to worry about yourself." Eliza took a long strand of some sort of seaweed and handed it to me, letting out a deep breath. "It's a grass weed, a thicker form of seaweed grown in the thicker parts of the water. It's in fused with hormones. Take it and gulp it down with some salt water." The slimy strand of grass was put in my hands, Eliza's hand was shaking as she handed me the glass of water in a old coffee cup. I stared at her, her face is pale with fear.

"Why are you shaking?" I asked, watching her closely as I put the seaweed in my mouth taking the water and drowning it. "Remember to be brave." She said, "wait wha-" Everything went numb. I couldn't feel anything. Nothing.
