Chapter Five
Eliza
Nothing is as it seems, I may seem like a savage beast, a person who wants to see no one prevail. It may seem like it, people don't know me. I want to keep it like that, I don't wanna open up to people. If I do, I show a weak side, I don't need a weak side to deal with when I already have more problems.
Landon, isn't a exception. He doesn't deserve to know me, no one does. If he opens up I just have to sit here and listen to his secrets, I sit there, thinking of my secrets in hopes he doesn't know them.
My methods may be hard and harsh and brutal but it's the only way. Keeping to myself calls for desperate measures and if it means hurting others to keep my family safe, then it has to be done.
When I was little I had a big brother called Jonathan, he was big and strong and he was also brutal and bruised. He hurt me and did things to hurt me that shouldn't be done, no one knew. It hurt my heart because it hurts to know your brother wants to hurt you. It burns you from the inside out. And one day my prayers to god came true. Jonathan was executed, his death filled me with pain and happiness. It may sound crazy but I have suffered years and years scared of who might be knocking on my door. It was always him, I stared at him and when he finally looked at me he just stared at me. Nothing.
I expected a apology, what he gave me was just a pleading face. I wanted a apology for what he had done, for years of... pain and distrust. He made me scared of relationships. He had a girlfriend and he just continued like nothing happened. I prepared for his execution like a exercise. I brought a knife and I brought it out and I threw the knife with no mercy at Jonathan, one last tear left him and his eyes rolled back. They all looked around to see who did it. Quietly I left, Jonathan's goons were out to get me and my family but I already left the states before he they got to me.
I went to the oceans for answers I wanted to start a new life. A life away from all the troubles and brothers I had to deal with, away from everything.
So I live my life for a while serving the king of Atlantis. For many years so I can live out in the oceans. I thought I could escape but I was caught in a trap, King Zenthilha didn't keep his promise to keep me full with food and needs, I told him to not harm anyone in front me.
It hurt too much to see Landon hurt. He didn't remind of me of my brother, he reminded me of the future. A future life I would have one day where I would finally be free. That's where getting him safe led me. It was stupid for me to actually save him, but it had to be done.
"SOBER ME UP INSIDE!" A voice rang, "Are you serious? It's literally 5 in the morning and you had to wake me up with a sober song?" I say.
"Eliza, can you ever have fun? It's the morning, I expected you to tell me to train or something." Landon stared at me, "why are you waiting for my answer? Get to work!" I raise my voice. "Jeez, next time I won't ask you then." He sighed and walked off to his spot yesterday.
"Did you mean what you said yesterday?" I stopped, I wanted to slap my face. I hated that question. It's a stupid question. You shouldn't ask stupid questions unless you're stupid. "I don't know if that's supposed to be a hard question or a joke." He said, his voice howling with the wind. "Never mind, don't answer the question. It's stupid anyways." I say, trying to shake off a feeling.
"I was about to answer but... yeah... never mind." He stuttered, he was blushing. Oh my god, of course he's blushing! Why did I say that?! "Why are you blushing?" I ask. Oh fuck my life.
Why the hell am I asking these dumb questions that shouldn't be asked. "It's n-nothing!" He turned his face away from me, "Why are you blushing?" He asked me, I stared at his back. "Wait what?" I say, flustered. "I-I I am?" I stuttered, words coming out in parts, "I was kidding, it's already my 4th day knowing you and you're already blushing." He teased, flashing a bright smile at me.
"Quit the flirting, get back to work." I sigh out loud. "If you say so, boss." I could tell Landon was suppressing a laugh, instead he was holding up a smile, far too abnormal and wild to be fine. His hands were balancing a quarry, the rocks were as small as pebbles, gold and diamond and a thin layer of sand. The rock walls covering the quarry were transparent, clear as spring water. "It's what's beneath us." Landon told me, "That's impossible," I say, "well, you might wanna believe it."
My heart started to race for no reason, "Eliza, are you okay?" He looked into my eyes, "Yeah, stop the flirting." My voice stern again, "I wasn't-" "Just shut up." I turn quickly away, only to disappear into the forest.
"Eliza! There's a plane coming!" He yelled, "Wait what?" A loud crash shook the foundation of the ground, sand flew everywhere. My knees had cuts everywhere from thorns. I tried to turn my head back towards Landon to find him trying to navigate the plane upwards. Then suddenly a explosion erupted. "Eliza!" He grabbed my arm, "Let me go!" I shout, screams crying in the background.
"We need to help them!" His voice pleading for me to listen, without my answer he ran into the plane crash. 5 people were still alive, moving, breathing, traumatized. 2 men, 2 women and a little girl. "Are you guys okay?" He asked, they all looked at him confused.
"Est-ce que tu parles français?(Do you speak French?)" I pushed past Landon, "non, mais ma fille parle anglais.(no, but my daughter speaks English.)" The mother said, "Je m'appelle Eliza," I tell them, "Je m'appelle Adalicia, ma nom de fille est la Géorgie.(My daughters name is Georgia.)" The mother told me, she then pointed to the tall man with a hat, "Je m'appelle George," he grinned, "But I too can speak English, we are so grateful that you two are here." He said, "maman, où est-ce que tout le monde est allé?(mommy, where did everyone else go?)" The little girl asked, "Ne me demande plus, Géorgie.(don't ask me again Georgia.)" Adalicia shushed,
"Where are you all from?" Landon asked, "We we're traveling from Paris, France to Montreal, Canada." George walked in front of Georgia, "I was on a trip to Paris when this happened, I wanted to go home. Jada, pleasure to make your acquaintance." Jada was tall and skinny almost on a verge to anorexia, with brown hair and light brown skin. Her hair was slightly curled but not super curly and she was wearing piles of makeup to cover up her very sculpted face.
"I'm happy me and my husband made it out alive," she pointed to the quiet man in the back. "My family is from China, we always dreamed of visiting France. They sadly died. It was a family vacation." He continued, "ummm, what's your name?" Landon asked, his patience running shorter. "Ling Huang, my English name is Jason." Taking my hand and shaking it firmly.
"Why don't we bring you all out to our camp." "Landon, introduce yourself!" I whisper to him, "These guys seem fishy, I don't buy it." He said, "Be brave but be kind."
