Prologue Part 1: The Great War

Ganondorf's POV:

The war was my doing of course. When wasn't it? It was all a mere distraction however, enabling me to sneak into the palace. And if the town's were destroyed, it would be all the better.

The King of Hyrule, such a grand title, unfit for the buffoon who carries it. I deserved that title. I must take it slow however, these things take time if they are to be successful. The coward of a king is hiding on his throne, waiting for his army to report to him that all is well.

I threw open the doors of his throne room. The Buffoon's hands tightened on the arms of his bedecked chair.

"You have come to kill me then?" He cried sadly. "The war is lost...let it be done."

"On the contrary, my king..." I knelt in front of his throne. "I am Ganondorf, King of the Gerudo tribe. I am here to end the war."

"End it?" The king blinked...just like the confused nitwit he is.

"Yes your highness." I smiled. "I am here to ensure you stay the king. I am a warrior unmatched. There is none that could defeat me. Only say the word and I shall decimate the army attacking your domain."

The king eyed me suspiciously. "Do this, and I will grant you a place as your ally in your times of need."

I smirked. "Yes my king."

???'s POV:

The battle was gruesome. I fought beside my husband, trying to defend the king. We were his strongest knights, but even we were having a hard time.

I jumped over a sweeping blade and knocked my opponent back with the hilt of my sword. He moaned in pain but scarcely gave me time to breath before advancing once again.

Countless Hylian warriors fell beside me.

I managed to clear enough space around myself so I could take a very brief break. Using this precious time, I searched for my husband. He was closer to the front lines than I was...and one of the dark knights stood in front of him, mercilessly swinging his blade. Behind him, another warrior rose, raising his sword.

"NO!" I screamed and ran to him, thereby disobeying my orders to guard the gate. I saw with anguish that I would never reach him in time. "KARO WATCH OUT!" I hollered.

He brought his sword around in a deadly stroke, dispensing of the first enemy, but he turned to late.

I shut my eyes, still running forward. I couldn't watch...I would get there...I would...

I didn't.

I got there just as the dark knight was turning to face me. I cried out in fury and plunged my sword through his armor. The knight gasped and fell back onto his knees.

I left him and my sword and knelt beside Karo.

"No..." I whispered. "No...no no no...Karo stay with me." I began to cry, the world around me faded. I didn't care if we won anymore...it wouldn't feel like we had won if Karo was lost.

He clasped my hand, his breathing rapid and shallow. "Lin...Lin save him...they are getting through...the gate...don't worry...about me...remember...I...love you...both..." His eyes glazed and his breath slowed more and more.

I wiped away my tears, remembering why I had chosen to fight nearer to the gate. I ran all the way back, through the gate, and took back alleys to get where I needed to go.

I came to our small house and threw the door open. Inside I heard a familiar wailing.

The woman I had hired to watch my little baby came to the door, holding a frying pan. "LEAVE OR ELSE YOU'LL GET A TASTE OF MY...Lin?"

I shoved past her and scooped up my little baby.

"You need to leave." I informed the woman. "They broke through our lines."

"But what about..."

"GO!" I commanded.

Without another word she ran.

I needed to change into something less noticeable. Quickly, I took off my armor and dawned a simpler dress.

I grabbed a brown cloak and threw it over my head...not taking much time to tie the clasp so I could wrap my little baby up in a brown blanket so he wouldn't be cold.

Where could I go? Kakariko village was heavily guarded and they wouldn't let anyone in at the present time.

Then I smelled smoke. They were setting the town on fire.

I tried to open the door but the roof began to cave in and blocked the exit. I ran around frantically, finally finding a window which I smashed through.

I ran...to where? I didn't even know. All I knew was that I had to run.

I ran straight out of the gate, running to the side to avoid the clashing swords.

My little baby began to cry, clinging to my neck. He was only three...it wasn't right that he should have to witness these terrors.

"Sh..." I tried to quiet him. "Sh...mommy's here...it's okay..."

I felt a sudden pain in my thigh.

I choked down a scream and turned to see one of the dark knights. It was the very same one I had stabbed earlier. He laughed evilly before giving his final breath.

It was significantly harder to run now. Ever agonizing step made me want to scream, and cry, and give up...

But I couldn't...

I couldn't let them get my little baby. My little baby who had seen the knight, and was seeing now the blood gushing down my leg.

His arms tightened around me, and mine around him. I bit my tongue to keep from screaming as I surged forward, but I couldn't hold back the tears that ran down my face as fast as I ran through Hyrule Field.

Then I heard a song...A song that drew me to itself.

I followed the song into the woods, twisting between the thickly growing trees. My baby heard the song too, he stopped crying to listen, and soon fell asleep.

It was starting to get hard to see. My vision was blurry. I could feel my life trickling out with the blood...slowly but surely.

There was no one that could save me...but I could still save him.

I burst into a clearing...to see the largest tree I had ever seen in my life.

And not just a normal tree either...it was the mythical Great Deku Tree.

I fell onto my knees, unable to run any longer.

The Great Deku Tree seemed to be waiting, waiting to see what I would do now.

I gasped for air, and pried my sleeping child from my own arms. Laying him on the soft grass.

"Please..." I gasped. "Please...protect him...please..."

"He is not one of the Kokiri..." The Great Deku announced.

"Please..." I begged. My vision was so blurred, that now I could only see my little child.

The Great Deku Tree hesitated a moment before asking: "What are his parent's names?"

"Lin...K..." It hurt to much to talk now. My consciousness was fading fast. Soon I would be with Karo.

"We will care for Link until he grows." The Deku Tree replied gently, soothingly.

Then my little baby woke up and saw me lying down, gasping for air.

"Mommy?" He whispered in a frightened voice, his little voice trembling.

I used my last ounce of energy to reach for his hand, and smile one last time.

I died hearing my baby crying, and The Great Deku Tree saying: "All will be well."
