Chapter 2: Inside The Great Deku Tree
Link's POV:
"WATCH OUT!" Navi yelled as I started running.
"IT'S FOLLOWING ME!" I screamed as I turned a corner, which the boulder turned too.
I ran into a dead end. I'm done, I'm a goner. And no one will ever find me.
I turned just in time to see the boulder roll harmlessly by. "Huh?"
"HEY! Look Link!" Navi chimed and bounced on my head.
"Stop it." I moaned and rubbed my head. I looked after her as she flew over to a big chest! I jumped over and opened it. Inside was a sword!
"YES!" I cried and held it into the air. "I GOT THE SWORD!"
The boulder passed by again and this time I chased it until I reached the tunnel again.
Brandishing my new weapon, I raced back to Mido.
"I already told you that you ca...du-du-du WHA!?" He staggered back as I presented the sword.
"You're right Mido, I just needed something to protect myself with! Thanks for the advice." I laughed and walked past him.
"I the great Mido, WILL NEVER ACCEPT YOU AS ONE OF US! A wimp is still a wimp whether he has a sword or not! Shoot, how did you get to be the favorite of Saria AND he Great Deku Tree!?" Mido started to rant as I walked along the path.
Suddenly this big plant shot up and tried to bite my face off. Acting on instincts, I swung the sword and cut it's stem.
I stared at the plant I had just...um...murdered. "Good reflexes." Navi encouraged. "Now come on, The Great Deku Tree is just through here."
I followed Navi, killing off a few more evil plants before coming to a huge clearing. The clearing seemed familiar somehow...
"Great Deku Tree! I'm back!" Navi announced to the hugest tree I had ever seen in my life.
"Ah, Navi. Thou hast returned." Came the Tree's voice. It was very deep and hollow sounding, but very kind and comforting as well. "And Link, welcome. Listen carefully to what I, The Great Deku Tree, am about to tell thee."
I sat down in the grass to be more comfortable as the Tree's wooden voice began to speak. "Thy slumber these past moons have been restless and full of nightmares..."
How did it know? How did it know I was having these nightmares?
"As the servants of evil gain strength, a vile climate pervades the land and causes nightmares to those sensitive to it. Verily, thou hast felt it."
I was having sort of a hard time understanding what he was saying with all his thou's and thy's, but I understood what he was talking ABOUT.
"Link! The time has come to test thy courage. I have been cursed. I need thee to break the curse with thy wisdom and courage. Do thou hath enough courage to undertake this task?"
I felt a little scared...what did it mean cursed? But I would help it...after all it finally sent me a fairy!
"Yes...I do." I lied.
"Then enter brave Link, thou too Navi. Thou must aid Link, who must be sure to listen to thy words of wisdom." The Deku Tree opened up what must have been his mouth I'm guessing. Was it going to eat me?
I walked inside with Navi a little fearfully, expecting it to shut it's mouth and chew me up. That didn't happen. Instead I found myself entering the largest treehouse in probably the whole world. I immediately noticed the skulltulas.
"That must not be fun to have inside you." I commented to Navi.
"They aren't supposed to be there..." Navi replied.
"Oh, well I'll just use my sword like with the plants!" I climbed up some vines and killed the skulltulas.
I came to a huge door that looked like it wasn't made of wood.
"Hey!" Navi cried. "You can open this door by pressing this button right here." Navi flew over to the wall and indicated a little button, which I pressed.
Presently, the door opened revealing a grassy room. Nothing was in there.
I took a step forward when all of a sudden a monster popped out of the ground.
Drawing my sword, I cautiously approached the monster. It was yellow and covered with leaves. All of a sudden it spit a huge seed at me.
I crashed back into the wall. "Hye..." I grunted. The monster kept popping out of the ground to spit seeds at me. I stopped trying to advance finally and held up my shield so I could think of something.
I felt a thump and then I heard the monster shriek. I peeked out from behind my shield to see it hopping around.
I ran at it with my sword ready to strike.
"WAIT!" It yelled, I paused, surprised at it's ability to speak. "Spare me and I'll offer you information!"
I was already frozen so it took that as my agreement. "Two, Three, One. Twenty Three is number One. You'll never defeat my brothers without punishing them in the proper order."
I went through countless rooms, found a slingshot, fell at least forty feet through the air, and defeated a few more yellow monsters. One of which told me the secret of how to defeat Queen Gohma, (whoever that was) before running off yelling: "Oh Queenie, sorry about that!"
I was getting tired. I had just beaten up the brothers of that one monster and now had inserted this huge key I found in a door.
This room was made entirely out of stone just like a huge cave. I had given up a while ago wondering why a tree had all these strange things inside of it so I wasn't too weirded out...until I looked up.
I saw the most gigantic BUG I had ever seen, and I thought those skulltulas were big!
It was crawling around on the ceiling, and then it saw me. It jumped onto the ground and started to approach me.
I'm not usually afraid of bugs, I think they're kind of neat...but THIS thing was...just too big.
"NAVI!" I yelled and started running away from the huge bug.
"It's weak spot is it's eye, you can use you're slingshot to weaken it and then strike it while it's stunned." Navi supplied.
"THANK YOU!" I cried, not even slowing down my run. I flipped around backwards to face the quickly advancing bug. Whipping out my slingshot as quickly as I could, I took careful aim while still running backwards.
I let the deku seed fly and it struck right where I had intended. The bug fell on its face while I ran at it and began slashing it with my sword.
Then It jumped up and ran away. It ran over to a wall and crawled back onto the ceiling. No way it was getting away THAT easy. I kept my slingshot ready, waiting for it to open its eye again.
I repeated my procedure a few times. I got hit a few times in return too, but I tried to ignore the pain.
Finally I struck the final blow. The bug began to flail around and actually decay right before my very eyes. It was disgusting.
As soon as it was gone, I felt somehow stronger. I didn't feel tired anymore.
Then a blue light appeared on the ground.
"Come on Link!" Navi chimed and fluttered over to it. I followed her and stepped into the light.
The next thing I knew I was standing back in front of the Deku Tree. But something wasn't right...
It's leaves were falling.
