Chapter 11: Horsing Around
Link's POV:
I sat up, looking around dazedly. The singing was coming from far away outside the window. Rising wobbly to my feet, I stumbled over the the open window and looked outside. The ranch was very large, but I was able to locate the source of the singing quickly.
Malon was dragging a bale of hay over to the pasture, singing to the horses as she went. All of them came trotting over to her and followed the girl until she reached the pasture. Then she separated the flakes of hay for each horse, patting them down and smiling all the while.
I noticed one horse far away, galloping about in a crazed manner. It looked completely wild.
Malon picked up a flake of hay and slowly approached the horse, all while singing her song. The horse slowed to a trot and eyes the redheaded girl tiptoeing towards him. She set the flake down, sitting in front of it, while the horse eyed her suspiciously.
Then, with a bowed head, it slowly stepped closer to the hay. Malon sneezed and the horse's head shot up faster then a bomb could explode.
She immediately began her song again and the horse slowly approached the hay. In another minute the horse was munching the hay while Malon was stroking its nose. Then I saw a man running at her waving his arms and yelling.
"GET AWAY FROM THAT WILD HORSE!"
The horse reared and galloped away, it's eyes rolled back and ears pinned.
Malon stood up and stomped out of the pasture towards the man. "Titan's not wild with me! He's gentle!"
"Wild horses are unpredictable! Your dad has told you time and time again to stay away from Titan, Malon!"
Malon puffed her cheeks and stormed away from the man. I watched her as she began to chase around cuckoos, still singing the song she had been singing earlier.
"Once you're feeling better, we should head down to the Zora's domain." Navi hinted.
"I'm feeling better now." I announced, turning away from the window unsteadily. Navi emitted a sound that could have been classified as a bell-like snort as I made my way to the bedroom door.
It swung open and Malon came into the room, panting and red cheeked. "Are you ready....for lunch...fairy boy?"
Then she seemed to notice I wasn't in the bed. Her eyes became scolding and she crossed her arms. "What are you doing?"
"I have to leave. I still need to get the spiritual stone of water."
Malon shook her head vigorously. "You're not well enough to be out of bed yet. You have to get better before you can go on another adventure."
"I'm fine." I protested.
With a swift movement she punched me in the gut, knocking the breath out of me and causing me to stagger back before sinking to my knees painfully. My vision swam and the floor felt as though it were swaying underneath me.
"If you can get knocked down by a little girl punching you after you saved all the Gorons, than you are definitely not better." Malon argued, helping me up.
I meekly climbed back into the bed and laid my head on the pillow. It was hard to argue with Malon. She makes me dizzy with all of her talking.
"By the way, is adventuring scary? I bet it's scary. One time I thought I saw a poe at night when I was letting the cuckoos in, but my papa says it was just my imagination. Have you ever thought you'd seen a poe? I'm just wondering since you might have because of all your adventuring. By the way, did you see the king or the princess when you snuck into the castle? Did you meet the princess? If you did, was she pretty? I bet she was pretty. I don't think princesses can't be pretty, they are princesses after all..."
Malon's mindless jabber went on for another ten or so minutes before she remembered she wanted to get me lunch. Once she returned she insisted on watching me eat again.
The lunchtime conversation started with whether I had thought the baby dodongos were "cute" or not. I couldn't get an answer in between all of her unbridled thoughts. That didn't annoy me though. It was kind of nice to have someone to talk to me so much.
None of the Kokiri besides Saria had ever really talked to me.
Thinking of Saria reminded me of the Great Deku Tree. He had tasked me with going to see Princess Zelda, and now she has given me a new command. I can't let them down.
I have to get to Zora's domain as quickly as I can, but I don't think Malon is going to let me leave anytime soon. I appreciate that she's so genuinely concerned about me however. I kind of like the attention in a weird way.
It doesn't matter, I have to get to Zora's domain.

That night, I crept silently out of the window and climbed down the side of the wall. Quietly I dropped to the ground once I was low enough.
Navi fluttered noiselessly beside me. "Okay, once we reach Hyrule field, Zora's domain is near to the path that leads to Kakariko village."
"Alright." I nodded. It was handy to have a fairy that knew exactly where to go. "Do you think that Ganondorf did something to the Zoras like he did to the Deku tree and the Gorons?"
Navi flashed an angry light. "It's not unlikely."
We were just passing the barn, when I heard the door creak open and closed. I spun around and saw Malon standing just outside the barn door. She looked at me with surprise. I backed up a little, before turning and running out of Lon Lon Ranch.
I glanced back once and saw Malon waving to me with a huge smile on her face. If it wouldn't wake up her papa, I'm fairly certain she would have yelled: "GOOD LUCK ON YOUR ADVENTURING! YOU CAN COME BACK WHENEVER YOU WANT SO I CAN TALK TO YOU AND MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER!"
I waved and nodded back, which made her smile all the more.
