Throughout the whole of the first book references to 'the Stone' are thrown around a lot in the first book, it is only until the start of the second part of Doomsday it is discovered that 'Rita' is, in fact, a Time Lady after mentioning about a watch she believed to be 'merchandise' from the show Doctor Who. The Tenth Doctor gently explains that this is not the case and a Time Lady is really stuck inside the watch.

The watch is opened and Rita becomes a Time Lady although she doesn't properly remember everything due to the Daleks tampering with the watch Rita Stone is now a Time Lady. Eventually taking on the name 'the Stone' after being called that by the Daleks, she does although still get called Rita in text and by the Tenth Doctor. 

Moving on to 'Remembering the Forgotten' the Tenth Doctor and the Ninth Stone just lost their best friend and third person in their trio: Rose. Clearly hurting the two say their goodbyes before a certain ginger is thrown into their lives after suddenly appearing in the TARDIS during her wedding day, the Tenth Doctor and the Ninth Stone save Donna and sadly have to part ways with her, this, however, allows them to meet Martha who joins the Time Lords in the TARDIS.

During the first half the book the Ninth Stone is clearly confused and slightly distressed by the unknown and what memories she is missing, she cannot remember the Doctor being her best friend, she only remembers small details about her life before the watch.

The Tenth Doctor and the Ninth Stones relationship as friends grew with the Stone constantly remembering small details here and there. The two kiss during 'The Lazarus Experiment' before the Ninth Stone practically chickens out only to then kiss him again at the end of '42' after thinking that he may have died then and there. 

However, yet again the Ninth Stone chickens away out of fear, the Family of Blood soon catches their scent and the TARDIS team are forced to go into hiding. The Tenth Doctor places himself in a watch while the Ninth Stone used a necklace that cloaked the Ninth Stones Time Lady 'smell' and hearts. In the first two months the Ninth Stone stayed in her human selfs home town Bath to get used to acting human again before she joins the Tenth Doctor (or John Smith in his human self) at the school with Martha.

Things end up going a bit pear shaped and the Family find the Tenth Doctor, with Marthas help the Ninth Stone and the Tenth Doctor stop the Family and the Doctor admits he (while in the watch) heard everything the Ninth Stone said about him. The Ninth Stone admits her feelings, the two kiss and become a couple.

Things suddenly take a bad turn when the Master (who is revealed to be her cousin returns) and is the Prime Minster of Great Britan.
