'Air Born' by juniormint94

Interview with juniormint94:

1. Can you briefly introduce your story and tell us why you think it won first place? Why do you want readers to consider reading it? 

My story, Air Born, is about seventeen-year-old named Orion Candor who discovers she comes from a line of elemental sorcerers. She discovers a hidden realm within our own, Isoria, and learns that her grandmother was a spy for an intelligence ring that is trying to take down the realm's most feared sorcerer. She becomes entangled with this group and discovers her grandmother was hiding something that could save the world from its reign of terror. To be honest, I'm always shocked when I win something. I've been told from my readers that my world-building isn't anything like they've seen before and they love how I've taken a spin on over-used tropes in this particular genre. 

2. Who/What is your source of inspiration when it comes to writing? 

Love, perseverance, and deception. Those have been my muses for this particular story, at least. In general, I would say I'm inspired by love and curiosity, and the idea that there's more to every person. 

3. What is your favourite genre to write in? Any new genre you want to attempt? 

Fantasy and any subgenre of it. I would like to attempt a heart-warming and feel- good YA romance novel someday. 

4. What drew you to Wattpad? Do you have any favourite Wattpad story? 

The only eyes that had read Air Born were close friends and family. I wanted to find people who were completely bias, along with writers and readers themselves, people who understand the structure and concept of story writing. I wanted honest and critical feedback because I knew my writing wasn't perfect. I was looking to hone my skills and hopefully meet some amazing people along the way! I don't particularly have a favorite, but I'm currently reading The Gazelle by KaraCarreira and I LOVE it! 

5. What inspired you to start writing? 

I've always had an imagination and been a storyteller at heart. I remember just being in preschool or kindergarten and I would take your stand 11.5 x 9-inch paper and draw pictures while reciting a story on the spot in my mind. This was because I didn't know how to write that young, but I could draw. It was when I was around 8 or 9 that I attempted to write my first novel. Since then, I haven't stopped. I guess I always had a love for storytelling. 

6. If a film were made of your book, who would you cast in the leading roles? 

I've always thought about this and I find it so difficult. To be honest, I really don't know! Maybe my readers have a better idea. 

7. What do you think are your strengths and weaknesses as a writer? 

 I think my strengths is my world-building and details. I'm super detail-oriented so I try my best to capture as much as I can. My weakness is succinctness. My writing can be a bit wordy, and I have to do so many rounds of revisions until I find the right words. 

8. What is the hardest thing about writing? 

 For me, structuring. I'm a big panster, but structuring is helpful for pacing. My inspiration draws from not having an outline, but it does take even longer to write without one because there's a lot more editing and conceptualizing since you don't' really know where the story is going. But I'm trying to get better at it! 

9. Who has been your biggest supporter of your writing? 

 My family and boyfriend. They have encouraged me every step of the way.  

10. Which one of your characters can you relate the most to? 

Orion. I may have implemented some of my personality into her.

11. If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title would be? 

 Oh, boy. I really have no idea, but I'll give it a try. Maybe "Magic, Mystery, and the Journey to Writing Air Born: A Cristina Macari Biography." 

12. What would you do if you were the one survivor in a plane crash? 

Try and get rescued!

13. Favourite artist and favourite song?

 I really don't have favorites, but I do love Ed Sheeran, and my favorite song right now is This Is Me by Keaela Settle.
