Chapter the Seventh
After Dinner, Ginny had told Neville all about what had happened in flying class in the Gryffindor common room when both of them were trying to finish their homework.
Demelza and Colin had already done the first year's homework and after having an argument about something, they both had went to bed.
"Wow." Neville had said, when Ginny had completed what she was saying. "Now I'm part of the team."
"Which position?" Neville asked her. Ginny hesitated. "Tomorrow I'm having a session with Wood so we can figure out which position is best for me, I think I'm a better Chaser than Seeker or Beater or Keeper. "
Neville looked at Ginny's little body up and down and chuckled. "Beater? I mean Chaser I can get but Beater!? Don't you have to be strong for that?"
Ginny hit Neville on the arm with some parchment.
"Ow." Neville whined.
"Offcours I'm strong, size does not quarantine power." Ginny said.
"I think you mean guarantee." Neville corrected her.
"Nope, I mean quarantine." Ginny said stubbornly. Neville sighed and continued one his essay. "You Weasleys are all the same." He muttered, quiet enough so that Ginny couldn't hear.
. . .
The next day, Luna and Ginny walked to Breakfast together. Luna was telling Ginny about the Quibbler, the magazine which her father made when they were interrupted by Neville.
"Hey girls." He said, walking beside them. "Hi." Luna and Ginny said in unison.
"So Luna, Scamander Blood-" A sandy haired boy turned around to look at Neville in confusion and fear. Ginny shook her head. "Salamander Blood."
The boy behind let out a small sigh of relief. "Poor guy, thinks you're going to eliminate the Scamander family." Luna said chuckling.
"I think I should apologize." Neville said but when he turned around, the boy had already gone. Neville turned back around. "So about Salamander Blood...umm...what was I about to say again?"
Ginny and Luna giggled. "Don't worry about it, you're done with Salamander Blood, right?" Ginny said to him as they reached the Great Hall. "Tell that to Snape." said Neville darkly. Ginny winced sympathetically.
"Come on, he isn't so bad, I bet something happened in his childhood that made him well him." Luna said. Neville snorted.
"What could possibly happen to make this cruel and a slimy git?" Neville said and looked at Luna and Ginny who had a horrified expression on there faces. "He's right behind me, isn't he?" The girls nodded.
"Yes I am," said Snape, "And detention and twenty points from Gryffindor for you being rude to a teacher."
"Twenty!?" Ginny couldn't help saying. Snape frowned at her. "Five more points from your beloved house for criticizing teaching methods and I can increase it." Snape said coldly and walked away.
When the trio where sure that he was gone before they let out a sigh.
"I hate him, at least I don't have class with him today." Ginny said. "Lucky you, I got him after Lunch." Ginny winced sympathetically. "Me too." Neville said, "Right before Dinner."
Before Ginny could reply, a cold voice sad. "How sad."
Ginny growled. The voice belonged to the raven-haired girl. Maddy Chang.
"What do you want?" Neville said coolly, crossing his arms.
"Me, oh I want nothing. I suppose you're wishing Weasley farewell because she has been expelled."
"Actually we are just talking about your worthless face." Luna shot back. Maddy scowled at the her and Neville and Ginny snickered.
"Shut up!" Maddy exclaimed, "At least I'm not a freak like you Lovegood."
"Take that back!" Ginny exclaimed angrily. "Make me, a wizarding duel, midnight, you and me Weasley and come alone. the trophy room, always open" Maddy said coldly and sashayed away to the Ravenclaw table.
"No." Luna said, "You are not going to the trophy room at midnight, what if you're caught!?"
"Why not, I mean, Maddy is very annoying." Neville said, "And Ginny is a lot more powerful than her."
"She's probably bluffing anyway!" Luna exclaimed. "Maybe she isn't." Neville said.
"I'm going." Ginny said. Luna frowned. "No."
"Yes I am! So maybe Maddy is lying maybe she'd not, I don't want to be a chicken!" Ginny said. Luna facepalmed. Neville high-fived Ginny.
"No this is not a high-five moment!" Luna exclaimed, frustrated.
"It is for me." Neville said, "See ya girls later!"
Neville went to the Gryffindor table to have some breakfast. "Ginny-" Luna begin.
"Fine! I won't go!" Ginny said, rolling her eyes.
"You're lying to me aren't you?" Luna said. Ginny bit her lip and nodded. Luna shook her head and went to the Ravenclaw table without saying anything to Ginny. Guilt filled Ginny. How could she lie to Luna like that?
. . .
That evening Ginny met with Oliver Wood at the Quidditch Pitch. Though she was thinking of the morning, the sight of the Quidditch Pitch got all thoughts of today morning from her mind.
"Woah!" She said in awe, staring around. Oliver Wood smiled at Ginny.
"So, how fast can you go speedy?" Oliver said to her. Ginny thought about it for a moment. "A lot." she said finally.
"That's all I need." Oliver said and then he went up in the air. Ginny followed him on the school broom.
"Catch me Weasley." Oliver said. "Is this part of training?" Ginny said. "Well, Chasers are fast aren't they?" Oliver said and winked before soaring off and flying very fast. A normal flyer wouldn't have noticed, but Ginny had and she followed him and despite being on a school broom(which were very slow) and Oliver on a faster broom, Ginny caught up to him in a few seconds.
"You're fast Weasley," Oliver said, "But do you know how to play?"
Ginny nodded.
"There are three chasers, two beaters, one keeper and one seeker," Ginny recited, "The chasers catch the Quaffle, a maroon ball, the biggest ball. The current chasers are Katie Bell, Angelina Jonson and Alicia Spinet, the beaters have one bat each and they try to stop the blungers, the black out of control balls, from knocking out your team mate from their broom while also getting them to knock your opponent of your broom without causing a foul. The current beaters are my twin older brothers Fred and George, the seeker catches the golden snitch, which is the smallest, fastest and hardest ball to catch and can give you one hundred fifty points. The current seeker is Potter. The keepers stops the Quaffle from coming into the three hoops so that the other team won't score ten points. The current keeper is you Oliver."
Oliver grinned. "That's the spirit!" . Ginny smiled and Oliver continued, "Let's see, now try to get the Quaffle into the hoop." Ginny nodded and soared up in the sky with Wood on her heels. Oliver went to the three hoops while Ginny tried to get the Quaffle through the hoops and she didn't even fail once.
Oliver grinned and then threw some small golf balls at her and Ginny caught each and every one of them, like that Oliver tested her out on all the other positions and when it was near curfew and Ginny had came back to the common room with Oliver(who had straight away gone to bed) that she saw a girl wide awake waiting for her.
"You're up late." Luna said. Ginny bit back a scream. "What are you doing here?"
"Waiting for you." Luna replied like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Ok, it was kind of obvious.
Ginny put a hand on her franticly racing heart.
"You scared me." she panted. "You are not thinking of going to the wizard duel, are you?" Luna said.
"I am." Ginny said confidently, "Any problem with that?"
"I'm coming with you then." Luna said. Luna had expected Ginny to argue against her, saying that Ginny could handle herself but to Luna's surprise, Ginny grinned at her.
"Thanks."
"Always for a friend." Luna replied, "If that's what we are."
"Offcours we are friends." Ginny said, holding Luna's hand. "Always." Luna looked up at her. "Always."
"If you two are going, so am I." said another voice and Ginny jumped again to see Neville emerging from the shadows.
"Hello Neville." said Luna calmly. "You all want to scare the bloody hell out of me." Ginny muttered.
"I didn't mean to scare you." Neville said.
"I know, sorry," Luna looked at the clock on top of the fireplace in the Gryffindor common room.
"It's almost midnight." Luna said. Ginny and Neville looked at each other and then looked at the portrait hole.
"I guess we should go." Ginny said, gesturing outside. Neville and Ginny looked at each other and then followed Luna out of the Common Room.
. . .
As the trio walked through the school hallways, Neville felt like someone was following them and jumped whenever he saw a shadow looming over them although it was just the suit of armor.
When they reached the trophy room, Neville let out a sigh of relief while Luna and Ginny looked around.
"I see Chang isn't here yet." Luna said.
"Must've been late." Ginny said
Neville looked around at the trophies. Many people had won.
James Potter, Minerva MaGonicall, Albus Dumbledore, Tom Riddle, Alice Fortescue-just to name a few. Just then Neville heard footsteps. He turned around to the other two girls.
"Do you hear that?" He asked them but they didn't have to respond because they heard the sound of Filch's voice. Filch was a caretaker at Hogwarts and he was mean and annoying. What he said was, "Students out of bed, students in the corridor, wait till professor Dumbledore hears about this heh heh heh."
Neville, Ginny and Luna looked at each other and then Luna gestured for them to go behind one of the trophies and they all agreed and hid behind the trophy, just in time to because Filch had come with his cat, Mrs. Norris.
Neville let out a sigh of relief, thankful that he wasn't caught but Filch turned to the statue and Luna glared at him. 'Sorry' Neville mouthed. As Filch came closer and closer, the three of them closed there eyes, knowing that they'd be caught and it was the end, well except Luna
Luna knew that the trophy had a big shadow behind so the chances of them being seen were low and they were not seen by Filch. He looked behind the trophy for a moment, shrugged and went away. The three made sure that he was long out of the trophy room, before the three of them slowly came outside.
"Oh my god, I can't believe Filch didn't see us, oh my god, Luna nice hiding place, the shadow was so big, Filch couldn't even see us!"
Luna grinned and bowed before saying, "Let's go back, our common rooms aren't far."
"What if Filch caches you?" Neville asked her. Luna rolled her eyes. "I'll be fine Neville."
"But still, it could be dangerous!"
"I'm-" Luna cut herself off and held up a hand to keep the other two quiet. Luna's gaze went around the room, right to a suit of armor. Luna looked at it for a long moment and then jumped up. "Mrs Norris is behind the suit of armor!" She exclaimed, gesturing Neville and Ginny to follow her outside the trophy room. Neville and Ginny had no idea how Luna knew that Mrs Norris was behind the suit of armor but really didn't care, they just ran, ran as fast as they could. Then they heard Filch's footstep.
"Students out of bed, students in the corridor." He said and nearly caught a bit of Ginny's hair, but Ginny was a bit faster than him. Filch would've known at least one of the students, Ginny, but fortunately for her, her hair looked brown in the dim light.
The three stopped at a door and they tried to open it but it wouldn't budge. "Oh no, we're done for!" Neville cried. "Oh move over." Luna said and tapped the handle with her wand. "Aloramhora." The door opened and all three of them went inside, closing the door quietly, just in time to because they heard Filch growling and then turning around and stomping away.
The trio let out a sigh of relief and Luna turned around and jumped. "What?" Ginny asked and she and Neville turned to see eye to eye at a dog, a three-headed dog to be exact. The only reason the dog(if you could call it that) hadn't eaten them was because of shock, but the shock was soon wearing off the dog was starting to growl.
The trio ran out of the chamber and ran all the way to there common room, Luna running to the Ravenclaw common room and Neville and Ginny to there common room. When they reached, Ginny and Neville collapsed on the sofa.
"Oh my god!" Ginny said, "Oh my god!"
"I know right!" Neville exclaimed. "What are they doing keeping a thing like that in the school?"
"I have no idea." Ginny replied
. . .
The next morning, Neville met up with Luna at the Library and Luna told Neville something, something which neither he nor Ginny had notice.
"The three-headed dog was guarding something." Luna had said. Neville frowned at her. "What? And how did you know?"
"Was I the only one looking at his feet?"
"Yes."
Luna sighed wearily. "There was a trap door." She said, "And anyway the more important question is what is it guarding?"
"Yeah, I wonder what?" Neville murmured and they both began doing there homework, occasionally asking help from the other.
