Chapter the Ninth
As fall came the Quidditch season came with it. Ginny was part of the team now and was constantly in practice, constantly and not only that Ginny was quiet and unnoticeable when she wanted to be and Oliver Wood made her spy on the Slytherin Quidditch Team and she did alright although most days it was pretty boring.
Luna had been shocked at the way she knew what the Troll was feeling, she hadn't noticed the thorn in the foot but the pain the Troll was feeling which was coming from its leg which was the thorn and surprisingly Luna felt like she had communicated to the troll and its last message was 'You are special'. Luna didn't understand what that meant.
Neville had been the most thoughtful of the three. He had been wondering what Ginny was about to say and about how Luna had controlled the troll. He had also been wondering how to get Snape to like him which seemed impossible.
One Saturday, after Quidditch practice, Ginny was sitting on a stool, drying her hair when Harry came out of the shower with his hair wet. Ginny was stunned for a moment and then she blinked and continued drying her hair.
"Hey Weasley." Harry said to her. Ginny frowned. "Potter."
"So how do I look?" Harry asked her.
"Like the giant squib beat you up." Ginny replied without looking at him. Harry winced. "That bad?" Ginny nodded and then saw a faint outline of a scar on her neck. It must've been when she had fallen down while playing Quidditch when she was little. Ginny quickly hid it. She didn't want Harry to see. Thankfully Harry didn't see but kept going.
"Do I look hot though? I mean..." Ginny's face went scarlet at the sudden change of the topic and she turned to Harry. "What's wrong with you?"
"I'll take that as a yes." Harry said chuckling. Ginny rolled her eyes. "Potter what are you doing here anyway? It is not like you are going to spy on the Slytherins."
"Actually Oliver said that I would be coming with you, he said that the report which you give isn't too detailed and the Slytherins might be planning something big and you just might not be paying attention." Ginny scoffed.
"As if! The Slytherins aren't doing anything except annoying each other and talking about muggle borns and blood traitors and prisoners. Sirius Black is common among them, its even in the Quibbler. Apparently he's been charged for murder of muggles."
Harry's hands bald into fists. "Yes he has." Harry grunted. Ginny jumped at the sudden change in his tone and then shook her head. "Well if you want to come with me, you better come now because the Slytherins will come any second now." Harry looked around. "Now!?" Ginny let out a weary sigh. "Come on." She said and dragged him outside the changing room. She took him in between the stands and Harry had to duck to fit in. Ginny didn't have much trouble since it was shorter.
The hiding place had a good and easy to observe the other players and the Quidditch pitch but it was also dark and damp and dusty, very dusty. Harry coughed and Ginny shushed him.
"How can you be in this place?" Harry asked, "It's so uncomfortable and is that a spider web? Ouch it's so tight, I'm surprised you can keep your head straight, ouch." Ginny rolled her eyes.
"Here they come." Ginny whispered. Harry became silent at once and he looked at the green robes and Quidditch players. He recognized one of them at once. "Malfoy." Harry whispered, "How is he still part of the team?"
"Shut up." Ginny hissed at him, "Or you'll get caught."
"What will they do? Report me to Snape?" Harry snorted
"No they will spy on us next, this place might be hard to see but it isn't sound proof." Ginny snapped.
"So what, what do we even do that is worth spying!?" Harry replied hotly
"How can you be such an idiot, I am part of the team and they don't know it yet." Ginny replied, "No one does."
"Except the whole freaking school." Harry muttered quietly. Ginny rolled her eyes. After a few minutes of silence Harry complained to Ginny. "I'm so bored!"
Ginny let out a sigh. "What's wrong with you?"
"They talk about nothing interesting." Harry pouted. Ginny groaned. How had she been stuck with this idiot?
. . .
Neville was sitting in the library, trying to do his Potions homework which was due on Monday when Luna came to him. She sat next to him and took out her own homework and began doing it. The worked in silence for a long moment until Neville spoke.
"I've been thinking," He said hesitantly, "That maybe you might be a rare species by which you can talk to animals."
"I searched the whole library, there's nothing. " Luna replied calmly.
"Luna you don't search up creatures, well you do," Luna raised her eyebrows and Neville sighed, "I mean that you don't believe in general stuff."
"Well thanks for that." Luna replied.
"I mean that-"
"I know what you mean." Luna interjected, "I'm not exactly the one who acts like everyone else."
"No, I mean yes, I mean," Neville sighed, "What if you're something undiscovered?"
"What if?" Luna said, "More like what if I'm dangerous."
"No Luna I mean yes I mean no I, Luna you aren't exactly the one to go out of her way to kill someone." Neville replied
"I can be dangerous." Luna replied coldly
"You have an odd way of showing it." Neville said calmly continuing his essay.
"I don't know what happened ok." Luna snapped. Neville looked at her calmly. "No one does."
Luna sighed and Neville went back to his essay. "Neville listen I know you might not want to you know talk or something but trust me I do not have any idea why this is happening."
"I don't know why I'm the boy who lived so yeah, no one knows why this is happening." Neville replied, dipping his quill in ink. Luna did the same and they both continued their essay for the rest of the hour till Ginny came.
"What did I miss?" She asked them and then frowned. "What's going on?"
"Homework." Neville replied. "Anyway doesn't matter now, Potter told me something."
"Is it he loves you?" Luna asked and Neville chuckled but quickly turned it into a cough.
"No," Ginny said rolling her eyes, "Snape is limping."
"Mhm and?" Luna murmured. "And what?" Ginny asked raising an eyebrow. Luna sighed.
"Why's that so important?" Neville said. "I mean I knew he was limping and by the looks of it so did Luna so why-"
"Because he might have let the troll loose!" Ginny exploded and sat down on a chair next to Neville. "What if, now don't get me wrong it might seem far fetch but what if the thing the dog is guarding is something valuable and Snape might be trying to steal it."
"Might seem far fetched? Ginny we don't even know what's under that trap door and anyway he's a teacher."
"So? Anyone can be bad and," Ginny looked around and lowered her voice, "And according to one of my mum's brothers, my uncle I guess, I never knew him, he died you know in the war, they both did but anyway at that time Snape was a death eater."
"But he is not anymore." Luna replied equally quietly. "What makes you think that he hasn't tricked Dumbledore."
"The man is like one thousand years old Ginny," Neville said quietly, "how can Snape trick him? And anyway isn't Voldemort afraid of Dumbledore?" Ginny sighed. "I know but," She bit her lip, "Me and Potter might have seen Snape and Quirrell and Snape seemed to be threatening him."
"It's probably about the DADA position or something." Luna replied. "But it wasn't, see Snape was holding Quirrell by the collar, his feet were barley touching the ground, and Snape was telling him to reveal his secret."
"Quirrell's or Snape's?" Neville asked. "Quirrell," Ginny replied, "and Quirrell stuttered saying that he had no secrets but then Snape held him tighter. It was only Potter bumping his head which made Snape pause. We were holding our breaths till Snape left and Quirrell following after saying a stuttered thank you."
"How nasty." Luna said
"Quirrell or Snape?" Neville asked. "Snape," Luna replied.
"So what do you think?" Ginny asked. "I think you're mad to think that Snape would try something like this. I mean sure he might want whatever is inside the trap door but with Dumbledore at Hogwarts Snape won't dare to make a move." Luna said
"I suppose..." Ginny said slowly. "Anyway don't you have the upcoming game coming up?" Luna said and Ginny's lips twitched into a smile. "It's going good, Griffs are going to win."
"Go easy on us though, we could use a win to you know." Luna said. Ginny thought about. "Uh no, I don't think that."
"Exactly." Neville said, "Us Griffs are going to win!" Ginny laughed. "Anyway," Luna rolled her eyes but she was smiling. "Sure."
. . .
When the day of the match came Ginny didn't feel so sure that the Gryffindors were going to win. What if they messed up? What if Wood finally saw that Ginny was no good on the team and will kick her out? But despite these thoughts she couldn't help but be excited. It was her first ever Quidditch game and her brothers knew how well she played well almost all her brothers. Percy and Ron haven't seen her play yet.
"Nervous?" Harry asked her. "You wish." Ginny replied trying to not sound as nervous as she actually was. When the team had left the changing rooms, Ginny's heart was beating very hard and very fast.
Ginny took a seat near the teachers area. It was where the team discussed their moves. This is where Ginny would sit. She was a second-hand player after all and why was she feeling nervous anyway? It's not like she was playing, but when the game began, Ginny wanted to hop on a broom and play.
Lee Jordan, who was the commenter of the game, began speaking;
"And the Quaffle is taken immediately by Angelina Johnson ofGryffindor – what an excellent Chaser that girl is, and ratherattractive, too –"
"JORDAN!" Professor MaGonicall said
"Sorry, Professor. And she's really belting along up there, a neat pass to Alicia Spinnet, a good find of Oliver Wood's, last year only a reserve –back to Johnson and – no, Slytherin have taken the Quaffle, Slytherin captain Marcus Flint gains the Quaffle and off he goes– Flint flying like an eagle up there – he's going to sc– no, stopped by an excellent move by Gryffindor Keeper Wood and Gryffindor take the Quaffle – that's Chaser Katie Bell of Gryffindor there, nice dive around Flint, off up the field and –OUCH – that must have hurt, hit in the back of the head by a Bludger – Quaffle taken by Slytherin – that's Adrian Pucey speeding off towards the goalposts, but he's blocked by a second Bludger – sent his way by Fred or George Weasley, can't tell which – nice play by he Gryffindor Beater, anyway, and Johnson back in possession of the Quaffle, a clear field ahead and off she goes – she's really flying – dodges a speeding Bludger- the goalposts are ahead – come on, now, Angelina – Keeper Bletchley dives – misses – GRYFFINDOR SCORE!"
The Gryffindors began cheering and in sudden anger Flint hit Katie and she fell of her broom. Ginny gasped and so did all the Gryffindors.
"FOUL!" Fred and George Weasley yelled. "FOUL!" Lee Jordan yelled. "FOUL YOU FUC-" This time MaGonicall didn't tell him to stop, as angry as him if not more. After a penalty which Ginny barley noticed the game was on and it was clear that Katie couldn't continue. Ginny got up as Katie came to her and gave Ginny her broom and then Katie sat down on the chair, her face white. Ginny bit her lip, worried for her but then shook her head and looked at the pitch. Madam Pomfrey will take care of her and no student had died by playing Quidditch and Ginny suspected that Katie wouldn't be the first.
Ginny got up on the broom and soared up into the sky. She was in the game now. Suddenly Alicia passed the Quaffle to her. Ginny didn't even look at it instead doging the players and Bludger and going and going and throwing and "GOAL!" Dean Thomas's yell could be echoed in the pitch at the same time as Lee Jordan yelled "GRYFFENDORE SCORE! TWO-ZERO!"
And the game went on and suddenly Ginny became the star player of the match. The winner. The one who was going to score. Ginny had scored twenty goals when something odd happened. She had passed the Quaffle to Angelina who passed to Alicia when Ginny's broom began to shake very dangerously and began to go high up in the air. Ginny held the broom as tightly as she could so she couldn't fall down.
. . .
Luna was looking at the game but was barley paying attention. She was daydreaming about something. Neville looked at Luna, her blonde frizzly hair in a bun and her hand in the middle, she looked so pretty, she was always so pretty. Neville looked at her gray eyes, which reminded him of a stormy sea and a boat and, and...Neville groaned. His scare had began to hurt and it felt like someone was looking into his mind.
Ginny, Luna, Ron, Hermione, Harry, Demelza, Colin, Voldemort, MaGonicall first year, Herbology, Snape, A big fat man, white beard, transfiguration, a flash of green light and a scream, a scream of a little child. Neville groaned again and opened his eyes and say Ginny score a goal and Luna right next to him.
"Neville are you ok?" Luna asked him. Neville groaned again but nodded. Luna sat down next to him.
"What did you see?" She said quietly. Neville looked at her and shrugged. His memory was unusually foggy and it was hard to remember what had happened.
"Neville listen to me, what did you see, you must remember something!"
"A green light." Neville murmured, his eyes barley opened, "Snape and..." His voice trailed of and Luna looked at Snape, gasping. He was saying something to no one, without blinking, he was telling an enchantment. Luna looked at the ongoing game and gasped, pointing at Ginny. Neville looked up and gasped.
"What's wrong with her?" Neville asked.
"You sit down." Luna said sternly, not looking at him "I'll handle this one." Before Neville could protest Luna had went away. Neville shook his head. Oh Luna. Neville looked at Ginny flying mid air. "Come on Luna." Neville murmured. Just then a lion's roar echoed through the pitch and Ginny nearly went of her broom but it was enough. The spell had stopped and Ginny was able to fly again properly. Just then Neville caught a glimpse of the snitch and he turned around to find it right next to him. Neville opened his mouth to call out but the snitch moved and went inside his mouth. Neville spit it out and it went into the match, being caught by Harry soon after.
Lee Jordan's roar of enthusiasm echoed in the pitch. "GRYFFENDORE WINS!" Neville saw Snape putting his hat down and MaGonicall smiling at him viscously. Snape took out some money and gave it to MaGonicall who took it happily.
"Well your common room will be full of celebrations." Said a melodic voice and Neville jumped.
"Luna!" He said. Luna laughed. "You scared me." Neville replied turning to her. "Well I think Ginny got a bigger fright then any of us." Luna said laughing. Neville chuckled.
"Now that I think about it, she did look a bit idiotic." Neville said.
"What did you just say!?" Ginny said in mock anger, walking towards them, still in her Quidditch robs.
"You looked idiotic, a lot." Neville said laughing. Ginny scoffed. "I nearly died you know!" She exclaimed
"Well did you die though?" Luna asked.
"No." Ginny said slowly.
"So that gives us the right to say that you looked idiotic." Luna said with a grin.
"Luna!" Ginny exclaimed, "And here I thought you were on my side."
Luna laughed but then she turned serious.
"About the broom thing by the way," Luna said slowly, looking at Neville.
"It was Snape." Neville said in a low voice. Ginny raised her eyebrows. "He was using an enchantment to make your broom go haywire."
"How do you know?" Ginny asked equally quietly. "Professor Snape was opening his mouth and speaking but not blinking." Luna replied, more quietly. Ginny took in a long breath. "Should we tell a person about this?" She whispered. Luna shook her head and Neville nodded.
"I agree." Ginny whispered. "See." Neville and Luna said turning to each other. Ginny sighed. "I agree with Luna," Ginny said, "I don't think we should tell anyone just yet and anyway who would they believe? A slimy git of a teacher or three students, on including the boy who lived, the girl who was nearly murdered probably because of the boy who lived and the girl who is friends with the girl who was nearly murdered probably because of the boy who lived?"
Luna and Neville gave her confused look and Ginny sighed again. "I mean that they would believe Snape over us." Ginny said. "Oh." Neville said but Luna still looked at her in confusion.
"What makes you think that?" Luna asked, "I mean I think Dumbledore might believe us, I mean he is a bit mad." Neville chuckled.
"But you said we shouldn't tell anyone?" Ginny said, her eyebrows raised. Luna shook her head smiling. "I agreed to we should tell no person about this, I didn't say we shouldn't tell anyone about this."
A wicked glint came into Luna's eyes, very unlike her, and Ginny and Neville gulped and fell back a step. "Meet in the courtyard at break? Near the black lake." Luna said, "Now I think that you have a party to attend."
Ginny and Neville smiled at Luna but a glint of worriedness remained in their eyes. Luna sighed, exasperated. "I'm fine," She said, "No need to worry about me, you go and enjoy yourselves. There is probably a big party waiting for you, especially for Weasley is our Queen."
Ginny snorted. "Yeah, like they made a special title for me." She replied. "I think they should." Luna said. Ginny grinned. "And I think you should change." Neville added. "You're still in your Quidditch robes."
Ginny gasped. "I didn't notice! You two better be going, I'll quickly change and come." Ginny turned around and walked away to the changing rooms.
"Do you think we should wait for her?" Neville asked Luna. Luna shrugged. "She said don't wait, so I guess don't wait." Luna said, "And anyway its almost curfew."
"Oh yeah." Neville said with a smile, "Come on, we best be going." Luna smiled and they both walked towards the castle together, laughing and talking and joking with each other.
. . .
Ginny quickly changed into her school robes and started to comb her hair in the changing rooms which she thought was deserted when someone came out of the shower. Ginny jumped and turned around to face Harry Potter. The changing rooms weren't deserted after all. And his hair was wet! Oh why was Harry freaking Potter's hair always wet! And why did they always meet alone in the changing rooms!?
"Potter." Ginny said nonchalantly, combing her hair. "Weasley." Harry replied with a grin, "How do we always keep on meeting here?"
"Same thing I always wonder." Ginny muttered, holding the comb tightly in her hand. Harry laughed and Ginny frowned. "What are you doing here?" She asked.
"Same thing I'd ask you." Harry replied grinning sheepishly. Ginny flushed and looked away. Harry grinned. "I think we're a version of the last generation but better."
"That'd explain why you're an arrogant toe rag like you dad." Ginny replied. Harry chuckled but it sounded forced and Ginny frowned but said nothing. "And that'd explain why your dad fell for you mom." Harry said.
"Oh shut up." Ginny said, a smile creeping up on her lips. "I see you're smiling." Harry said. Ginny rolled her eyes. "I do have the right to smile Potter." Ginny said. Harry chuckled.
"You looked a bit idiotic you know, up there," Harry said with a mischievous grin.
"Oh shut up," Ginny grinned, "Anyway I better be going to the party."
"I'll come too!" Harry said.
"Your hair is still wet," Ginny commented dryly. "And the ladies love it." Harry said.
"That's true," Ginny murmured quietly but said loudly, "Come on."
