Chapter the First
Harry Potter, the boy who lived, the boy who survived, the chosen one, on Earth 616 that is. In your universe Harry Potter is the boy who lived but what about this universe? On Earth 585 Harry Potter is not the boy who lived but Neville Longbottom is the boy who lived.
Neville Frank Longbottom was skinny, blonde and all over a replica of his father except for his eyes, he had his mother's chocolate brown eyes. At the age of twelve he was about to start his second year at Hogwarts School of Witch Craft and Wizardry.
He loved plants of all kinds of plants and if his Grandmother knew even quarter of the plants I know which are in her garden(and I know quiet a few), she would have been scared to her death(and I don't mean that metaphorically) and even if she wasn't scared to her death, she still would be scared but would have forgiven Neville after some time.
Neville didn't want any of that so most of the plants remained hidden from his Grandmother, Augusta Longbottom. One fine summer morning, it was June 31st and Neville was plating plants in the garden.
"Neville!" Augusta exclaimed and sighed with a small smile, "Will you stop working in the garden and come inside?"
Neville looked up and chuckled. "Gran this is my passion." Neville said chuckling
"And I don't approve." Augusta replied
Neville rolled his eyes and muttered. "I know you do."
Augusta smiled. She really liked that Neville was like his father, so much like his father, day by day. His father loved planting plants, just like Neville did. Augusta shook her head.
"Neville, you got your Hogwarts letter." She said
"Oh." Neville said and paused in his gardening. He didn't know how to feel. He was twelve and was going to start his second year. His first year was filled with whispers and points at his forehead. He made little to no friends and the only person he was closest to was Ron Weasley who spent most of his time in arguments with Hermione Granger.
Harry Potter was one of, ok maybe not one of, the only one who was handsome, every single girl in the whole school was after him and Neville couldn't help be thankful for that. He didn't want people after him and looking at his scare, which people did in the first week of school but then people got bored of the sport and went on with their normal life, only to go and chase Harry Potter.
Neville had a lightning shaped scare on her forehead and although it didn't hurt much, it sometimes twitched. How did Neville get this scare you might be asking? It was because of the Dark Lord, Lord Voldemort, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Names, You-Know-Who etc.
On Halloween Voldemort had attracted the Longbottom Family, killing Neville's parents. Neville had survived the attack and it left him with a scare on his forehead. The only thing Neville remembered from that night was a scream and a green flash of light.
"Do we have the same Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher?" Neville asked his grandmother. Augusta shook her head, "We are going shopping next week, we are going to Diagon Alley." Augusta said.
"Wish we had a different teacher for History of Magic," Neville said glumly.
"Sadly you don't." Augusta said, "Let Binns be, he's a poor old ghost, he doesn't even know he's dead."
"He's the only ghost who teaches, and it's boring, Ron falls asleep every single time. Only Hermione is able to be awake in his classes and take notes." Neville said.
Hermione Granger was the smartest student in Neville's grade and is way ahead of others in her grade, including her best friends Ron Weasley and Harry Potter.
That night Neville stared at the roof of his bedroom, on his bed, lying wide awake. He couldn't sleep, thoughts about his year at Hogwarts were in his mind. Last year wasn't the best, everyone knew that but new students were coming this year and Ron had a younger sister, who knows, maybe Neville will find true love.
Neville snorted as he turned to one side of his bed, no one could truly love him, everyone just liked him because he was The Boy Who Lived.
Maybe their was someone else. Neville chuckled. If someone else liked him, truly liked him, loved him, like outright loved him, truly loved him at first sight then Ron's little sister was Neville's sister, not Ron's.
Little did The Boy Who Lived know that he was right about one of the things he thought.
———
The next day, a little bit far away from Neville's house was a croaked tall house called The Burrow. In the morning a ginger haired girl called Ginny was sitting on her bed and reading an interesting muggle fairytale called Alice in Wonderland.
As Ginny read it, she became involved in the story. Alice in Wonderland was one of her favorite Brothers of Grimm stories. Her father brought fairytales home and as much as her mother disapproved of it, Ginny loved reading those fairytales. Her favorite was Alice in Wonderland.
It wasn't like the other fairy tales or princess stories, about finding true love, it was about a girl with an amazing imagination traveling to Wonderland.
Ginny wished that their was a place like Wonderland but she knew muggle fairytales are not real but Godmothers are basically old witched who have gray hair and nothing to do with their life, right?
So why can't Wonderland be real too?
Ginny was so focused on reading that she didn't notice her twin brothers were scaring youngest brother who was still one year older than her, Ron Weasley with a fake spider and Ron Weasley was glaring at Ginny to do something but Ginny didn't notice. When they were gone Ginny heard a rustle of a book as her eldest brother currently in the house, Percy Weasley, stomped down.
"Percy!" Ginny exclaimed. Percy looked up from his book. "Yes, was I too loud?"
"Can you please," Ginny said with exasperation in her tone, "read and turn the pages of your book more quietly."
"Fine, fine, sheesh." Percy muttered and went away
After a while of reading, Ginny got sick pf being in her bedroom and changed our of her pajamas into something more appropriate and went downstairs to the kitchen where
"You are very focused of reading." Ron said, "Like Hermione.'
Ginny sighed. Hermione, Hermione, Hermione. The only thing her brother talked about was Hermione Granger.
"You know she doesn't even let me copy her homework."
"Ron, don't tell me you copy off of her." Molly Weasley, the Weasley's mother said sternly.
"No." Ron said and muttered quietly so only Ginny could hear, "If she'd let me."
Ginny giggled.
"You know one time she forgot she was a witch." Ron told her.
"You already told me Ron." Ginny muttered.
"Look it was like this, it was in the middle of winter and we sneaked out of the castle for something and it was dead cold so we asked Hermione to produce some fire and then she was like, 'But theirs's no wood and we were like, well I was like, 'Are you mad? Are you a witch or not!?' and then she produced some fire." Ron said smiling and then told another story about when Ron was studying with Hermione Granger.
Ginny listened with half an ear and continued on with her breakfast. Fred and George Weasley-the twins-who were sitting across of Ron and Ginny leaned closer,
"Looks like Ronny has a crush." Fred said to Ginny. George snickered. "Whoever this Hermione is, she isn't attractive."
"Wait did Ron find true love?" Ginny said, trying to suppress her laughter. Fred and George shared a look of mock shook with each other and then turned to Ginny and all three of them burst out laughing.
"What's so funny?" a very bewildered Ron asked the laughing Ginny, Fred and George.
Molly Weasley shook her head and Percy scowled at them. "Now look whose making the noise." He muttered.
"Give them a break Perc, they are kids." Molly said to him.
"Ginny said I read and turn pages of my book loudly!" Percy exclaimed.
"Well you kind of do, but you're still my third son to be born." Molly said, enthusiasm in her voice. Percy got up. "This is outrageous!" He exclaimed and stormed away, his book in one of his hand.
All the Weasley's left on the table looked at each other and then Molly giggled, Ron chuckled, Fred and George snickered and so did Ginny. Soon everyone was laughing heartily. Just then owls came in with letters.
"Hogwarts letters!" Ginny squealed.
"Did someone say Hogwarts Letters!" Percy said coming down, his glasses a bit tilted.
"Me nosy." Ginny said and took her letter. She squealed. "I'm finally going to Hogwarts!" She exclaimed
"Really! We thought you were going to be a squib sis." Fred and George said. Ginny crossed her arms and glared at them and Molly said, "Boys!"
Just then a family owl came and got a letter from Hermione Granger.
"Look Ron it's a letter!" Fred exclaimed
"From your girlfriend!" George exclaimed
Ginny burst out laughing and Molly scowled at the twins.
"I'm today, goodbye." Molly said and retreated into her room, thinking for the hundredth time today why does Hogwarts start on first September.
"What does it say?" Ginny asked Ron
"Nothing." Ron replied hurriedly. "Nothing?" The twins exchanged curious glances and Ginny took the letter.
"Dear Ron." she said in a high-pitched voice, "How are you? And Harry, if he's their." Ginny looked up and frowned.
"Whose Harry?" She asked Ron.
"My best mate." Ron shrugged
"He might be your boyfriend Gin Gin." Fred said
"Everyone knows that Potters have a thing for red-heads." George snickered
Ginny rolled her eyes and continued reading the letter in her high-pitched voice
"I'm currently in Paris, it's so interesting, I've also been doing my summer homework offcours and extra-credit works. I didn't do that well in my exams last year you know, especially in charms."
"She got the highest in the whole school!" Fred exclaimed, "We even exchanged her charms paper to a NEWT one!"
"All the seventh years did worse than her!" George exclaimed
"NEWT." Fred said again and George said again, "Seventh years did worse, Seventh years." to make sure it had gone inside his siblings heads. It had and Ginny rolled her eyes. Ron took the letter from her and went up the stairs.
When Ginny realized what he had done, she scowled and looked back at the twins.
"It was useless anyway." She shrugged. The twins nodded and Ginny went back up the stairs into her bedroom where she flopped onto her bed, took out Alice in Wonderland and began reading the book from the start and forgetting about the Hogwarts Letter.
Sometimes muggle stories are better than wizard stories, Ginny thought as she read the book.
~
Right at that moment, a few miles away lived a house which-even if a muggle saw it-looked like a house of a mad person. Cruel thing to say, I know, but to anyone, that's what the house looked like.
Inside lived a little girl with her father. The girl's mother had died in an accident.
The girl's name was Luna, Luna Lovegood. She was named on the day she was born on which was a full moon day, also right after Neville Longbottom had defeated the Dark Lord.
Luna was in her bedroom, day-dreaming and looked up at the celling of her bedroom, maybe she could paint something? But what? The celling was plain, a very light shade of blue and as much as Luna liked it, she wished that something else could be done with it.
Maybe she would make friends at Hogwarts and she could paint their paintings on her celling. Will they think it weird? She didn't think so, she had lost a lot in her life but being the optimist she is, she never cared.
Near her window an owl hooted. Luna got up and went to see what it had brought. No one sent mail to her, unless it's the Weasleys, but why would they sent a letter to her?
They didn't even know she or her father existed, although she had a faint childhood memory of her mother having a picnic with a red head mother who had a small daughter, the same age as Luna playing with each other, but Luna thought it was probably a dream, most childhoods are.
Before you grow up and have to face the world like how it is. Luna sighed. She wished she could be young forever.
The owl was inside her bedroom now, hooting, annoyed at the fact that Luna wasn't giving him any attention. Luna smiled at the owl and told it to slow down so she could see what the letter was about.
The owl obliged and went stopped flying so Luna could take the letter. After Luna took it, the owl went outside, through the window.
Luna called a farewell and looked at the letter. Hogwarts, she thought, it was from Hogwarts
Having no patience, Luna opened the letter and read it. She was going to Hogwarts!
Little did Luna know that the first few weeks of her school year were going to be sad and tragic until maybe a troll attacked the girls bathroom or maybe when Luna being called silly names.
In your universe, the Golden Trio is Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger but in this universe, you have looked through all the members of the Golden Trio. Neville, Ginny and Luna.
