09: The Non-Frightening View

🎃 Fate Perkins - Oct. 31, 2015

Small talk was made the rest of the way toward the edge of New York. Conversations that I've always dreamed of sharing with someone; easy-going talks that can be about everything and nothing not to mention being able to have a comfortable silence. Just being able to enjoy each other's company. Yeah, it's a little crazy to be having these kinds of feelings for someone I don't know the name of but looking past that, everything before me is quite promising.

I still find it crazy, however, that I had an instant connection with this guy that I barely know and that I was very willing to leave the party where my friends were to go on a small romantic montage with a guy in the most awful costume I've ever seen.

(Well, Louis did look stupid in his Cupid costume but it was all good - and adorable - intentions.)

When arriving to the barriers, both of us slow our walk, my hand slipping out of his to lean against the cool bar. I stare at the view in awe, despite how many times I've stood here looking at the same place it always seemed to leave me speechless.

"I've never seen her at night," he says as he leans on the bar as well, our shoulders and arms lightly pressed to each other. "She's beautiful."

"I love seeing her at night," I tell him, "there is just something so strong about her this time of day that motivates me to be as strong." I don't take my eyes off of the statue even though I feel his eyes land on me. "I used to always come here with my parents and brother, at night, in this very spot. Every time we would, I'd just think to myself, 'I want to be just like her when I'm older'... I was never an independent girl, even today I still rely on Blake so much. But I have grown since then and I'd like to think it's all because of her."

"You should give yourself some credit," he insists making me turn to him, almost taking a step back when realizing just how close we were. I blink up at him, heart beat speeding up as he leans towards me - he stops inches away. "I think you're a strong woman, Fate."

"Thanks," I whisper still conscious of how close we were. He looks as if he wants to say something but at the last minute, he backs out all while leaning away from me. I let out a sigh before turning my gaze back to the view, arms laying atop the barrier before I rest my chin on them. He mutters something to himself but I ignore it.

He doesn't stand as close to me as he had before, leaving a good foot between us.

I stare at Lady Liberty once more, dreaming of the day I'd be completely strong and confident just like she is; shinning bright in the darkness. I sigh and step away from the barrier. "Why don't we go get the coffee you promised me?"

Clearly startled, he jumps before turning around to notice me already heading in the direction of the closest Starbucks. We have a total of fifteen minutes before it closes. He quickly catches up to me, not bothering to take grasp of my hand once more as  I had crossed my arms over my chest.

To be honest, I was a bit upset that he hadn't done anything the moment we were so close. Not saying I wanted him to kiss me or anything but just something - like maybe pull off that stupid sheet or tell me who he was. I know before I didn't mind it but now I do after being that close to him and feeling my heart skip a beat.

So we walk in a comfortable silence instead.

(A/N): come on, Harry, make a move! so anyways, I've decided that this story will be 20 chapters long meaning the next chapter will be Harry's (if you haven't read the other specials then you should know at the halfway mark I always do the boy's point of view). You have no idea what's left in store! *evil laugh*

PLEASE VOTE AND COMMENT

p.s. the wonderful lady liberty at night (it's an amazing view, guys)
