Gulf's POV
"Why are you not talking to me?"
Mew grabbed me by the wrist when I moved to pass him by.
"I have no time for chitchat," I replied in a cold voice.
If he did not know why I'm not talking to him, that's his problem. Or is he just pretending that he didn't know?
I tried to pull out of his grasp but he held on to my wrist.
"We have to talk," he said, pulling me towards the corridor that led to the stairs to the rooftop of our building.
I stood my ground.
"We don't have to go anywhere to talk," I said stubbornly. "Say to me whatever you want to say here and now."
"I think I know why you've been giving me the cold shoulder these past few days," he said, looking me straight in the eye.
"And why do you think is that?" I asked, meeting his eyes without flinching.
"Because of all the photos you have seen of me and Tul on social media," he said gruffly.
"Bingo!" I said with a smirk. "I thought you'd never come around to mentioning it."
"Because there's nothing to explain." he said.
"Did I say I wanted an explanation?" I countered. "All I wanted was that you mention it to me at least. Your silence about it makes me think that you're guilty of something."
"I'm not guilty of anything!" he said angrily. "It was just a meeting of old friends and people were taking pictures of us and posting them everywhere and making all sorts of stupid speculations!"
"Then that's it if that's what you say it is," I said. "No need to act defensive about it."
"I'm not acting defensive but you're making me feel defensive," he said, finally letting go of my wrist. "I refuse to talk about it anymore because there's nothing about it worth talking about."
With those words, he turned away.
I thought I would feel relieved that the topic was out in the open, but for some reason, a feeling of uncertainty lingered.
Was he telling the truth? Was there really nothing going on between him and Tul?
Then something occurred to me.
I took my phone out of my pocket.
Max and I had been introduced a few years back during a mutual friend's birthday party and we had exchanged contact numbers.
If there was anyone who would know anything about Tul and Mew for certain, it would be Max.
I went through my list of contacts and found Max's number.
I tapped on his number and waited nervously while I heard the ringing on the other end.
"Hello," he answered on the third ring.
"Hi, Max, it's me Gulf," I said with a nervous chuckle.
"Yeah, I know, my phone screen told me it was you," he said, chuckling back at me. "What can I do for you, buddy?"
"Listen, I ... I ..." I stammered. Suddenly I didn't know what to say.
Max waited patiently until I could come around with the right words to say but for the life of me I couldn't bring myself to say them.
"Gulf?" Max prompted, when the silence could no longer be ignored.
"Are you aware of the photos of Mew and Tul that are all over social media?" there I got the words out.
I waited for Max's reaction but I was met with deadly silence.
Oh shit, what have I done.
"Max? ... Max?" I suddenly got very nervous.
