Third Person POV

"If you do that, I will never ever speak to you ever again," those ominous words ran through Earth's mind as he slowly made his way out of the building.

"In fact," New had continued angrily, "in fact, I will go further than that. I will cancel our engagement altogether! Do you hear me?"

Earth had left New's penthouse condo unit without saying a word because he did not know how to respond to New at the moment. His mind was torn between staying or leaving.

The walk to the parking lot made him sweat.

The sun was blindingly hot today.

His car was parked all the way to the end of the condominium's parking lot for visitors which was across the road.

As soon as Earth entered his car and turned the ignition on, he turned his air conditioner to full blast.

Earth did not drive off right away. He just sat in his car waiting for his car to cool down because it had been under the sun for a half hour. He also needed to cool down.

His argument with New had been loud and intense and emotionally charged.

"You can't just fly off to another country and leave me here when we have just gotten engaged!" New had protested angrily.

Earth had gone to New's condo unit to let him know that his company had assigned him to a new engineering project which was taking place in the Philippine Islands and just as he expected New had exploded in anger and resentment.

Earth had tried to explain to New that it was a very important project and that his company had appointed him to head and supervise the project. His company was counting on him because he was the best engineer in his company and the project was worth billions. There was no way that he could turn down the assignment. If he did so, he might as well quit from the company which he was not willing to do.

And so New had threatened to cancel their engagement and to never ever speak to him again.

Sitting in his car now, cooling off his emotions, Earth started to wonder whether staying on with his company was worth the loss of New from his life.

Earth loved New so much and he was very tempted to call the head of the company to say that he couldn't proceed with the project.

Earth drove back to his company building. He was supposed to spend his lunch hour with New but they both ended up not having any lunch and now Earth's stomach was grumbling.

Earth's boss met him at the entrance of their building.

He clapped a hand down heavily on Earth's shoulder.

"Hey, listen," Earth's boss said to him. "I will be flying to Manila this evening to meet up with the head of the Philippine  construction company the following day. We will be signing the final contract. They will be booking a condo unit for your use while you are working over there for the next year and a half. Be ready to fly to Manila by as early as day after tomorrow."

"Yes, sir," Earth replied, his heart sinking and pounding painfully fast in his chest because he knew that the day after tomorrow would mean the end of his engagement with New.

Earth suddenly lost his appetite. He had been planning to grab a quick bite from the company cafeteria but decided instead to go straight up to his office.

By the end of the work day, the final nail to the coffin of New and Earth's engagement was driven when Earth received a call from his boss's secretary to let him know that she had booked a flight to Manila for him.
