Louis' POV
My body was propelled a little bit forward when I felt the impact of the basketball against my back.
I didn't even bother to look behind me to see who did it. It could have been any one of Neo's team mates. I didn't care to find out. I just kept picking up the discarded basketballs and placing them in the big square netted container with wheels. I still had to push the container back into the auditorium stock room.
It has been close to a month now since I started being their basketball team's after practice assistant. It was my duty to gather all the basketballs left on the practice floor and place them all into the netted container and then wheel the container into the stock room for next day's practice.
I volunteered to do this duty not just to add credits to my Phys Ed because I was seriously failing because I'm really not an athletic guy but also because I had this huge secret crush on Neo. Being the basketball team's cleanup and errand guy gave me a chance to be within close range of Neo.
As I was pushing the basketball cart toward the stockroom I heard someone yell "Hey, Louis! I need a towel!"
I was about to stop pushing the cart in order to walk towards the area where the metal racks that held the towels were set up against the wall when I heard Neo say, "Stop it, Jimmy, it's not part of his duties to fetch towels for us."
"But I'm too tired to walk over to the towel racks," Jimmy protested. "If you wanna save Louis the effort, then do it for me."
Whammm!
The rest of the team mates surrounded Neo and Jimmy to break up the fight.
"Let me get at him!" Jimmy yelled. "He hit me first!"
"What's going on here?" the voice of coach Mr. Guy Sivakorn boomed from the entrance of the auditorium.
"He hit me just because ..." Jimmy started to say but Coach Sivakorn interrupted him with "I don't wanna hear it."
Then coach Sivakorn put his whistle to his mouth and blew into it before saying, "Everybody in the locker room! Right now!"
Everyone started to file into the locker room and I started to push the wheeled netted container of the discarded basketballs toward the stock room.
"You as well, Louis!" Coach Sivakorn yelled at me.
Shit, I didn't want to join the rest of the basketball team in attending the briefing of the basketball coach. I always felt awkward being surrounded by tall athletic guys. I felt that any minute one of them would shove me hard enough to make me lose my balance and fall to the ground.
Once more I let go of the netted container and dragged my feet towards the locker room.
Since I was the last to get in, I found myself standing next to Neo.
My heart started to pound erratically against my chest.
I could smell his sweat but it was a clean scent.
I tried not to stand too close to him but because the locker room was too small a space for twelve large men plus myself and the coach I had to be almost halfway out the door in order for my shoulder not to touch his upper arm.
"Are you trying to leave the room?" Coach Sivakorn demanded of me when he noticed that my body was halfway out the locker room.
"No, sir," I replied.
Suddenly I felt Neo's strong arm across my shoulder pulling me in and making me stand in front of him, his sweaty chest pressing against my back.
"I'll make sure he stays, sir," Neo said firmly, keeping his hold on me.
"Listen up, everyone!" Coach Sivakorn started the briefing.
I could barely listen to what Coach Sivakorn was saying because suddenly I felt something hard poking at my lower back.
I tried to move away but Neo's arm was firmly holding me in place.
"Any questions?" Coach Sivakorn had ended the briefing without my being aware of what his announcement had been.
"None, sir!" everyone chorused including Neo.
"Any questions, Louis?"
Oh shit, Coach Sivarkorn's attention was now on me.
"N...none, sir." I replied, trying to move away from Neo once more.
"You're all dismissed," Coach Sivakorn blew his whistle before leaving the locker room.
"So you have no objection to sharing my dorm room starting next week?" Neo asked me as I started to walk away from the locker room.
"What???" my voice turned high pitched.
"You said you had no questions when Coach Sivakorn addressed you," Neo said with a slight smile and a glint in his eyes.
My heartbeat became erratic again.
