Back To The Start

I don't normally dedicate chapters to people, but I'm dedicating this one to @walterthedolphin666 for encouraging me to go on when I had kinda given up. And without further ado, here's the new chapter!

~Mark

When I got to Jack's house, I rapped my knuckles in quick succession against the door, my suitcase gripped tightly in my other hand. When Jack opened the door, I saw his face light up with a fake smile with a hint of sincerity and pain. He had a large purple bruise on his cheek that he had obviously tried, but failed, to cover with makeup with little success. His eyes were bloodshot like he hadn't slept in days and has been crying a lot. His usually bright neon green hair was faded and was sticking up in various places from underneath his cap. "Hey Mark!" Jack greeted me with enthusiasm that seemed exaggerated, even for him. "You okay?" I asked, pointing at his cheek. His face turned paler than usual as he tried to cover it with the sleeve of his blue sweatshirt. "Ran into a door." He explained hastily. His gaze darted away from me as he wrung his hands fidgeted nervously by his side. Before I could question him further, he ushered me inside and sank onto the couch, his head in his hands. I quietly sat by him, unsure how to comfort him. "What's up? Where's Emily?" I glanced around the room in search of the now seven year old Emily. She had celebrated her birthday last week on Friday. We had Skyped and we ate cake while we talked to celebrate. Jack remained silent, his head hung in shame, guilt written all over his face. I could tell he was fighting tears at this point. "What about the animatronics?" I changed the subject to see if that would make him feel better. It didn't. If anything, it did the exact opposite. He hugged his knees close to his chest and buried his face in between his knees, refusing to meet my gaze, tears beginning to form in his robin egg blue eyes. He suddenly became interested with the coffee table in front of him. "C'mon." I prompted gently, scooting closer to him and giving him a hug. He stayed tense for a moment before collapsing into my arms, shoulders shaking with silent sobs as his tears soaked through my shirt. "Sorry." He sniffed after a while as he wiped away the rest of the tears on his cheeks with the back of his hand. "Don't be. If you don't wanna talk, you don't have to." I sighed in disappointment. I wanted to help him, more than ever now that I saw him cry. He almost never does, so something is definitely wrong. Jack took a shaky deep breath before recalling what had happened. "The night of Emily's birthday-I let her stay up late until midnight playing games with me and stuff. Once midnight rolled around, I sent her to bed. Not too long after...I heard her scream." He paused for a moment, squeezing his eyes shut and shaking his head as if to expel the memories before continuing. "When I went to see what was going on, I saw the animatronics. They were the Originals, but they seemed...different. All of their eyes were blood red and they-they took her. They took Emily and I did nothing. I tried to help her, but..." He put lightly put a hand to his bruise and winced as if reliving the pain. "Freddy literally bitch slapped me into a wall and I blacked out. When I woke up, they were gone without a trace, and so was Emily. I checked the second pizzeria where they usually stayed, but they weren't there. I even checked the first one, but they weren't there either." Jack concluded. "Did you check Fazbear's Fright?" I suggested. He shook his head no. "The police has quarantined the place since Vincent died there. At least that's the last I heard. I think they shut it down recently though, but I'm not positive." He frowned thoughtfully. "That and I've been too afraid to go back, so I sold it to some random guy who wanted it." He admitted sheepishly. "I don't blame you." I muttered bitterly. That place held too many dark memories for me, and I hoped that I would never have to go back. I could tell Jack was thinking the same thing. "So we'll check that place last." I decided. "But where do we start?" Jack wondered aloud. "I don't know." I glanced over at him with a worried expression. "Maybe they got lost?" Jack suggested hopefully. I shook my head doubtfully. "I don't think so." "Well what do ye think?!?" Jack snapped impatiently, jumping off of the couch and glaring at me with pain, guilt, and anger flickering in his eyes like blue flames. I instinctively shrank back in the couch, concerned about him. He sighed in defeat and sank back down onto the couch. "Sorry." He mumbled wearily. "It's fine." I assured him. I closed my eyes in concentration and tried to think of somewhere the animatronics could've gone. "Scott!" Jack blurted excitedly. "Maybe they went back to him for some reason!" "Worth a shot." I shrugged as I got up off of the couch and walked to the door with Jack. "Wait." He hesitated, his hand almost touching the door knob. "Where would he be?" I groaned aloud and kicked the wall, instantly regretting it as pain shot through my foot. "Screw it, I'm going outside. I could use fresh air anyway." I opened the door and stepped outside. As soon as I did, I got a call from an unknown number. Curiosity getting the best of me, I answered it. Before I could even open my mouth, a strangely familiar raspy voice mixed with a different voice spoke first. "Hello Mark, let's have a private chat shall we?" "Why should I listen to a creepy bastard like you?" I scoffed as I was about to hang up. "Ah ah ah, hang up and I'll burn Jack's house down." I stiffened and glanced behind me. Jack was watching me suspiciously. "Tell Jack you're talking to a friend and shut the door." The person instructed. I reluctantly did as I was told. "Good!" The man cackled. "Now, make any noise I don't want or move, I'll shoot you where you stand." He warned. "Who-" I started. "All in good time." The person interrupted. "But-" "Do you want to find Emily or not?" He hissed. That made me shut up. "As I was trying to say, I'll help you find Emily, but not directly. Where's the fun in that? The first place you need to start is back at the first pizzeria. I think you'll find something of use there." "Can I take Jack?" I asked. "I guess, but don't tell him about me or-" "I know I know, you'll shoot me and burn Jack's house down." I growled angrily. With that, the guy ended the call with a click. I put my phone back in my pocket and opened the door. "C'mon Jack, we're going back to where the fun is plenty and the price's fair." "Why?" Jack shouted back. "Just wanted to double check." I lied, cringing outwardly. As we left, I wondered what I was supposed to find and who the guy on the phone was.
