Chapter Six: Scoop's Apology

It's been months. I haven't left my room. I've been terrified of social interaction. I'll only talk to Nancy, Jonathan, Will, Hop, Joyce, and the kids. When I do leave I'll occasionally see Steve with his thottie, they seem happy. Something I'd never been able to achieve. I'd sit in the car, a sad look always on my face. He'd see the car, and he'd have the saddest, guiltiest expression I'd ever seen him have. He knows he screwed up and he won't get forgiveness. He didn't from Nancy, and he won't from me.

I heard knocking on my door and I mumbled a "come in." I didn't see who it was until they sat on my bed.

"Does it ever stop hurting?"

I looked up to see Will, Jonathan was standing in the doorway, sending a smile my way, I waved and he walked off.

"Does what?"

"When you liked someone, but they screwed up and they hurt you?"

I smiled, sadly. "No. It doesn't. You just have to muster everything up and make room for it. Its like a storage unit. When you lose feelings, or someone, you stow it away. And sometimes, you'll take it out, you'll think them maybe only for a minute, then pack them away again, or not put it back, and other times, you'll never use them again at all."

He partially nodded, and I kept staring out the window, the rain pattered against it peacefully, calmly.

"Hey uh. The party and I are going to the mall today. We're heading to the icecream shop. You wanna come?"

I smiled. As much as I didn't want to go, knowing who'd be there, but I'd do it for Will and the kids, so I don't care. If I see "Mr Great Hair." I'll tell at him again.

"Yeah. Give me five and I'll be there."

He smiled, making a little yes noise in which I chuckled. Then grabbed my stuff and got into the car to drive there. I was picking up El, Max, and Dustin, meanwhile Lucas and Mike said they'd ride their bikes.

When we'd arrived there, I let them all run lose, with the usual rules of "don't go anywhere alone, always have a buddy with you. Don't get into too much trouble." Then they ran loose. The boys ran to all the 'cool places.' While Max and Eleven went shopping for clothes. I decided to make the most of the day (and my fears) and go to the new ice cream shop. Scoops Ahoy. Cheesy, but cute.

I walked over to the register to order, I'd still probably come back when the kids were with me.

A girl about my age walked up to the register. She had brown hair and a sailors uniform. I knew she looked familiar, maybe from school.

"Hey." I greeted her and she smiled.

"Hey. What can I get you?" She asked and I shrugged, looking at a menu.

"Just chocolate. I'm not picky."

She nodded, talking to someone behind a counter. "Hey dingus, hurry up with that would ya!?"

I heard an all to familiar voice replying with "Alright. Alright, jeez." And I tensed, not wanting to make a scene. I'd just have to roll with it I guess.

And of course, the cause of all my problems walked out in a surprisingly cute sailors uniform with my icecream. When he saw me his eyes widened, the same express from the exact day I 'dumped his ass.'

"(Y/N)?"

I didn't answer. The girl, or Robin, from her nametag looked at him confused. "You know her?"

"Oh he knows me alright."

I retorted. He looked at his feet, sighing and setting the icecream on the counter. I stood still with my arms crossed.

"You expect me to forgive you but it's not gonna happen."

Robin still looked confused, and maybe even a little bit weirded out.

"No I don't expect you to forgive me I just want to explain."

"Explain what? Do we really need an explanation?!"

I yelled and Steve grabbed my arm and started shushing me, yanking me to the side. I pushed him off, which made him let go of my arm. "I trusted you, I really did. But clearly that was stupid."

"That girl... That girl you saw me with. She was drunk, really drunk. She'd gone to some stupid party a few blocks down and ended up at my house. So I helped her, she stayed the night and-"

"Oh so you slept with her too?"

"It's not like that! What is wrong with you?!"

"What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you! You could've showed up at the dance. You left me waiting for almost an hour. An hour. And I finally assumed you were just hanging out with some other thottie. Until we drove by and my assumption was right."

"No. What you saw, that was her parents car. I had called them to get her and they were lecturing her. They left a few minutes after you, and then I was left upset wondering what the hell to say because you don't take apologies easily."

"Finally, something we can agree on."

He rolled his eyes and then out of surprise, yanked me into a hug, resting his chin on my head.

"I'm so sorry. I'll be good. I promise. I won't ever, let anything or anyone hurt you. I still love you (Y/N). And it's okay if you don't forgive me, I don't forgive myself either. Just please, don't walk out that door?"

I started crying, just crying.

"You're an asshole Steve, but. I can't resist you in a sailors uniform." I joked and he chuckled.

"Well that was emotional." Robin remarked, making fake fluttery eyes and we laughed. "You still want your icecream with that?"

I smiled and nodded. Then turned around when I heard familiar voices and laughing.
"Well speak a'the devil, my children have arrived."

They looked shocked that I was talking to Steve, Eleven and Will even glared at him.

"Guys it's fine. He apologized. But, he's still an idiot."

They kept glaring and Steve looked a little bit frightened. I just chuckled softly.

"So. Steve. Maybe a few more scoops of icecream?"

I asked and he smiled, but not before he kissed me on the cheek then went to go grab the kids some icecream.

Dustin and the other's looked shocked. "What the hell'd we miss?"

I chuckled and pushed his hat I've his eyes playfully. "Too much much to want to know, Dust Bunny."

"Please don't call me that." He glared while rearranging his hat. I held my hands up and nodded. When the kids got their icecream I said goodbye to Steve and Robin then left.

It felt good to know that one part of my summer was fixed.

"Hey (Y/N). About that storage unit you told me. What did you do with them?"

I looked at Will and smiled. "I took them out for a minute. And realised I couldn't ever let it go."
