Chapter Nine: Hopescoenoake, Kentucky

^^^Not a real place^^^ xD

"Jesus Christ, (Y/N) we've been walking for hours, I think we're out of Hawkins now. Are we even in Indiana?" Dustin groaned, leaning against a tree for support. Will huffed, leaning against Mike, who was leaning against Lucas, while Max and El were caught up with me.

"I know, we're probably far enough away now, but there's a place I need to go."

"You need to go? We need to go back to Hawkins. For Steve!" Dustin retorted, I could tell he was just as sad as I was.

Mike scoffed. "He's probably dead by now, he must've annoyed them the whole ride there and shot him when they got out." Max and Eleven turned and glared at him, both yelling his name in sync.

"Steve's actually a nice guy once you get to know him. He actually didn't abandon me when I came back from camp!"

The other kids all looked at him guiltily, I sighed, trying not to release all my tears.

"(Y/N)?"

"We made it."

I stood at the top of a hill, looking down at a small town, bustling with cars and people, way out in the country I saw ranches with cows and horses.

"Where in the world are we?" Max asked, standing next to me and squinting her eyes for a better view.

"Kids, welcome to Hopescoenoake, Kentucky."

Lucas widened his eyes. "Kentucky? How in the hell did we walk to Kentucky!"

I didn't answer and started walking down the hill. The kids jolted themselves out if thought and ran to catch up to me, they didn't ask anymore questions, they either ran out, or didn't want to make me feel any worse. Whatever it was, they were smart to not ask.

We kept walking, and people started to stare at me, wondering who in the world I was and why the hell I had six kids with me, decked out with slingshots and other toyish weapons, aside from my bow and arrows, luckily they were hidden enough to go unnoticed. We walked for awhile, until we finally reached a neighborhood that came into mind.

I found the address. It was the right one, I could tell from the car parked in the driveway. We walked up to the door, and I knocked, waiting for a reply.

About three minutes afterward, I heard someone unlocking and opening the door. To my relief, it was Londyn. She had wide eyes and a shocked look on her face, she peeked outside into the street, probably wondering why I had no car. She stepped to the side, letting everyone in.

The kids propped off their shoes, all dispersing. Some to the fridge, others to the couch. I sat down in a seat next to Londyn.

"What the hell are you doing here? And why are all the kids with you?"

I sighed, taking another sip of the water Londyn poured for me. I shivered, and felt a little bit of tears start to fall down my cheeks.

"We had to run. I was pulled into the Hawkins incident. With Eleven, and the experiments, and the Russians beneath our feet. I vowed and helped to protect the kids and keep them safe."Hopper went with Joyce to do, something. Nancy and Jonathan had gone to a store to get supplies. Hopefully they'll find us."

Londyn looked around the room, she stared at all the kids, then at me and frowned.

"Where's Harrington?"

My eyes drooped and my blank expression became a frown. I didn't answer. Londyn narrowed her eyes at me.

"(Y/N)? Where's Steve? Are you okay?"

"He's gone! I just came to ask you to watch the kids so I can go back to Hawkins! Why is everyone asking me if I'm okay! I'm fine, I just wanted to bring the little rats here so you'd keep them safe. I let Steve get taken, and knowing those... Whoever. He's probably dead by now. And I don't want the kids to be next, I swear if anything happened to them, I just might go insane. So, yeah, I'm fine. Thanks."

Everyone was quiet, I was getting stared at with gaped mouths, I rapidly inhaled and exhaled, sweat and tears were falling down my face and body. Londyn noticed, and she yanked me into a hug to calm me down. I took deep breaths and she kept rubbing my back and her fingers through my hair in comfort. When I was calm, I stood up, staring directly at the six kids.

"I know, you're gonna be mad, but guys, this adventure, this conquest. This one's too dangerous. I'm sorry."

Mike glared at me, Lucas kept exchanging glances with Dustin and whispered things back and forth. Max and El looked at the floor, either sad, scared, or somehow guilty. Will looked at the others and then at me. Mike stepped forward and snapped at me.

"Exactly. You said that this is too dangerous. So why are you going?"

I retorted, glaring at him with arms crossed. "It's different Mike. Besides, it's not like you'd be helping, you'd just be staring at El the whole time and following her like a lost puppy."

He stared at me with wide eyes, and earned giggles from Max and Eleven. "N no I wouldn't! I'd just be... be... I'd be keeping her safe!"

"Dear god, we've talked about this. She can keep herself safe. When I was your age I was running and biking all around Hawkins."

"No. When you were our age, you were stuck in the Upside Down. Probably crying for your Mommy and Daddy."

I stopped, and I stared directly at him. Mike kept glaring, not even sorry, but he didn't even know.

"My parents are dead. All of them. I was taken in by the Glynne's when I was fifteen, and I'd been out of the Upside Down a year prior, just running around everywhere, most if that year was spent trying to find Will and make sure he was safe, and while doing that, I saw you, Dustin and Lucas all staring at the lake. And that, what I thought I saw, was when I ran away and Londyn's parents found me, then they died too. So, thanks for bringing up my amazing past Mike. I appreciate it."

He stared guiltily, amd the others all looked shocked, including Londyn, who surprisingly didn't even know about half of what I just said.

"When are you leaving?" El asked me. She hid slightly behind Max, like I was going to hurt her, maybe something worse, of course I wouldn't, I never would.

"Tommorow. I'm spending today gathering supplies, who knows what happened to the others. Then I'm walking my ass back home. I'm gonna kill whatever and whoever decided to mess with the people Hawkins, Indiana."

Londyn ^^^ (what she looks like)
