Chapter 5- Power Outage

🔔IMPORTANT!🔔
There are some changes in the story. I am changing John's name to Adam. I am also not sure if this story will be a Taylor Swift FanFiction. I will try to make it one, but I have been having other ideas for this book. For that reason, I will be changing the cover, because Taylor Swift does not have much to do with this book so far. Thank You AbbyTheSwiftie1213 for making that amazing cover, I still love it!  (Btw, PLEASE tell me if you see any mistakes, I will gladly fix them!)

Maura was home alone, again.  Both of her parents worked until late at night, and her little sister, Ava, was at Day Care.  She probably should have been doing her History Project that was due on Monday, but she felt like having a lazy Saturday.
Maura grabbed a Family Size bag of Doritos and laid down on the couch.  She turned on Dance Moms.  Watching it had become her new pass-time.
She had dozed off, dreaming about a giant marshmallow pillow, when someone started shaking her.
"Wake up, Maura." The person said softly.
Maura's eyes slowly fluttered open.
"AHHHHH!!!" She screamed, once she saw Vivian hovering over her.
"You scared me, Viv!" Maura said, panting.
"Sorry.  We have to get to work.  It's our first day at the Candy Shop." Vivian said.
"Wait, how did you get into my house?" Maura asked, her mouth wide open.
"You left the door unlocked." Vivian replied.
"Stalker..." Maura mumbled.
"C'mon...Lets go..." Vivian said, pulling Maura by her arm.
"Do I have to?" Maura wined.
"YES!" Vivian shouted.

"Here are your name tags, and complementary aprons." Said Angie, who was Co-Manager of the Candy Shop.
"Um excuse me, Angie, you spelled my name wrong." Maura said, who was obviously annoyed. She held up her name tag that read "Laura".
"Oh gosh, I'm so sorry about that." Angie said.
"Ed has some hearing problems. I keep telling him to get a hearing aid, but he won't listen." Angie whispered.
"We noticed." Maura said, and rolled her eyes.
Vivian pulled the faded red apron over her head. It was dirty, and looked like it hadn't been washed in 10 years.
"These are gross..." Vivian grunted.
"Would it be possible to, you know, add a little pizazz to these aprons? I have some sequence and I just learned how to sew-"
"No, Miss Maura." Angie interrupted. "We do not like "sparkle" and "pizazz" here at the Candy Shop."
"But you're a candy shop... It's supposed to be a happy environment." Vivian argued.
"Not here, girls." Angie said, stomping her foot and pointing towards the ground. There was an awkward silence.
"Now, get to work." Angie said, flashing a cheesy smile.
"I don't think I like this Angie girl..." Vivian whispered to Maura.
"Well, what do we do now?" Maura asked, looking around for assistance.
"I can help!" Yelled someone from the back of the store. Vivian squinted her eyes. It was Adam. He rushed over to the girls.
"Hey, Vivian." Adam said.
"Gross." Vivian replied, wrinkling her nose.
"Shut up, Viv." Maura said, and stepped forward. "Hi Adam, um, we're new here, so could you show us around?"
"Yeah, cool." Adam said.
Adam showed the girls how to work the cash register, ice cream parlor, and how to measure amounts of chocolate. Vivian mostly grunted and crossed her arms, while Maura tried to be overly enthusiastic.
"Isn't that neat, Vivian?" Maura said, showing Vivian the Candy Corn dispenser.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah." Vivian said. She just wanted to get away from Adam.
"So you work the Night Shift too?" Maura asked him.
"Uh huh." Adam replied. Maura just fluttered her eyelashes and stared at him.
"Okay, so can we get started? I'm getting tired of watching you flirt with Adam." Vivian said to Maura. She turned bright red.
"You two can start with the Ice Cream Parlor, and then around 10:00 we'll switch." Adam suggested.
"This is ridiculous. It's not like someone is gonna come in here and order chocolate ice cream at midnight." Vivian said.
"Yeah, I thought the mall was closed." Maura said.
"No one really comes in here. It's a little creepy, actually. I just work here because it's good pay." Adam replied.
"Don't you work at Starbucks?" Vivian said, folding her arms.
"Coffee in the morning, Candy at night!" Adam said and winked.
"Don't wink at me." Vivian replied.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Maura was on a sugar high.
Doing cartwheels down the jelly bean isle, and round offs past the M & M display.
"Maura, you look drunk." Adam told Maura.
"Woohoo!" Maura said, throwing licorice in the air.
"You sure there isn't any managers or cameras watching us?" Vivian asked Adam.
"There's nothing." Adam said, moping the floor.
"This isn't right." Vivian said, using her common sense. "The mall is closed, there is no one to supervise, and the whole building is pitch black except for this store."
"Don't worry about it, Viv! We're finally free!" Maura said, running towards Vivian to give her a hug.
"Don't step there! It's wet!" Adam yelled, pointing towards his mop.
Maura slipped and fell flat of her face.  Vivian didn't know if she should laugh at Maura or help her up.
Adam offered his hand, and helped Maura back on her feet.  Maura stood, but was a little wobbly.
"I think I need to sleep..." Maura mumbled, and fell back onto the floor, snoring.
"Is she okay?" Adam asked Vivian.
"Yeah, she does this all the time at sleepovers. Just crashed from all that sugar." Vivian replied.
"Oh.." Adam said quietly.   It was awkward for both of them, standing next to each other, staring at Maura.  It was the first time they had been "alone".
"So I guess it's just you and me now." Adam said, itching the back of his neck.
"Yeah..." Vivian said.
"This is random, but I really love your name." Adam said to Vivian.
"Really?" Vivian asked sarcastically.
"Do you know what the meaning of your name is?" Adam asked, interested.
"I actually do. It's means "alive"." Vivian told him.
"Everyone thing about it is beautiful." He whispered.
She looked John in his deep brown eyes.
"Wow." Vivian thought.  It was the first time she had actually looked at him.  Vivian usually just shrugged him off, not wanting to deal with him.  But now that she actually noticed Adam, he wasn't so gross after all.
"Snap out of it Vivian!!" She said to herself.
"We better get back to work." Vivian said, looking at the clock, that read 10:59.
"Yeah, I'll be at the cash register..." Adam said, sadly. "All the way over there..."
Vivian couldn't help it, she grabbed his arm, bringing him closer to her.  He smiled weakly, knowing what was going to happen next.  He held the edge of her face, and leaned in closer.  She took a breath, then pursed her lips, which were centimeters away from his. And he-

All the sudden, the lights turned off.  They were standing in the dark.

Vivian pulled away.  "Stupid hormones..." She thought.  She was  grossed out by the whole situation, but still was a little upset that they didn't get to kiss.
"What happened?" Vivian shouted, trying to find Adam in the darkness.
"Power went out!" He shouted back, bumping into Vivian.
"I'm scared of the dark." Vivian said, which wasn't true, but she just wanted to hold someone.  Adam wrapped his arms around her, which made her feel more safe.
"I don't understand why the power went out. There isn't a storm. It happened at exactly 11:00 pm. This was done on purpose. Someone is behind this." Adam said, who loved mysteries.
"Has it happened before?" Vivian asked.
"Never." Adam replied.
The two stood in the darkness, hugging each other. They soon heard eerie footsteps, creeping up behind them.
"AH!" They screamed in unison, their grips getting tighter. They felt a light tap on their shoulders, and screamed even louder.
"Hi guys!" Maura said.
"AH!" Vivian screamed again.
"It's me, Maura. Why are you screaming?" Maura said.
"MAURA! You scared the crap out of me!" Vivian said.
"Hold on!" Maura said. "I usually can't see in the dark, but are you two hugging?"
"No!" Vivian said, backing away.
"I knew you were dating!" Maura said happily.
"We aren't dating! I would never date a guy who screamed like a girl." Vivian said.
"I do?" Adam asked, offended.
"Yeah, but it's okay, it's kinda cute..." Vivian trailed off.
"Viv, when you get married to Adam, can I be your bridesmaid?" Maura asked. Vivian grunted in reply.

"Maybe we found love right where we are..."
