Chapter 14 - Formulating a Plan
The first thing that Jesse noticed when she began waking up, was a painful stiffness in her neck. Her entire body felt sore, like she had slept in an awkward position. And as soon as she opened her eyes, she realised that that was exactly the case.
She was resting on her back, her head not even on the pillow. Still dressed in her t-shirt and overalls, clearing having fallen asleep there by accident. Blinking a few times in confusion, Jesse tried to recall what she had been doing there when she fell asleep.
Her head snapped to the side, hearing two sets of peaceful breathing beside her. Petra was lying on her side, her back facing Jesse. One of her arms were draped over the sleeping form of Lluna, fingers loosely gripping her white coat. The llama was fast asleep as well, her snout nestled into Petra's other, limp hand.
Jesse smiled vaguely at the sight, remembering everything that had happened the previous evening. She felt a lot better, knowing that Petra had managed to get a full night's sleep there. Lluna's presence clearly helped her. Maybe she should let Lluna stay with Petra in her room for a while? Just until the worse of her grief pass.
Another dull throb in Jesse's stiff neck was quick to remind her that her body didn't appreciate her staying in that position. She sighed softly, pushing herself up from the mattress and rubbing her sore neck. It was gently drizzling outside, the light rain keeping the air cool.
Jesse spared another glance over at Petra. She didn't want to wake her friend, and would rather let her catch up on some sleep. Getting up from the bed, she walked over to her window and pulled shut her curtains to keep any light out, bathing the room in gentle shadows. Next, Jesse picked up the blanket that was draped over an armchair in the corner of her room, where she liked to sit and read. Walking over, she carefully draped that over her friend.
As she did, Jesse couldn't help but notice that Petra looked somewhat paler than she had the previous evening. Jesse shook her head to herself. She was probably just imagining things, it was pretty dark in the room after all.
Walking over to her bedside table, Jesse picked up the small notebook and pen that she always kept handy. She swiftly scribbled a note on it, trying her best to write properly in the dark. When she finished, she gently tore the piece of paper out, placing it down on the bed beside Petra.
Get all the rest you need. I'll cover for you. - J
Feeling satisfied, Jesse left the room, gently closing the door behind her. As she walked in the direction of the kitchen, she tried to somewhat fix her rats nest of hair. The other three were all already up and in the kitchen, Olivia and Lukas standing up and having a conversation, while Axel sat at the table, stuffing himself with breakfast. Jesse guessed she must have slept pretty late if Axel was up already.
"Oh, Jesse!" Olivia greeted her when she came walking up. "Good that you're here, I have something to show you."
"What is it?" Jesse asked curiously.
"Lukas I finished crafting these yesterday night." Olivia said, laying something down on the table that was wrapped in a beige cloth.
"They're not the most elegant, but they'll get the job done." Lukas added as Olivia unfolded the cloth.
"What do mean not the most elegant?" Jesse asked in awe. "For a last minute project, they're gorgeous!"
Two swords lay on the table's surface. Both were carved out of diamond, their blade's emitting a soft blue glow from the few light enchantments. Olivia and Lukas's new weapons.
They've been training with regular iron swords, which they of course couldn't carry into another battle – that fact was proven when they found out Jesse's Nether Star blade could actually cut straight through iron like it was butter.
"I suppose you're right." Lukas said. "And after this fight, maybe we can put some more effort in to make them look better."
"Speaking off-" Axel began talking with a mouth full of toast. "-When are we actually doing anything?"
"That is a good question." Lukas said with a sigh, walking away to get himself some food as well. "I have definitely noticed some improvements in all of our fighting techniques."
"Do you think we could actually be ready to take on the Blaze Rods again?" Jesse asked, leaning with her back against the counter.
"You tell us, the training and change of weapons were your ideas." Olivia pointed out.
"I don't know." Jesse said with a sigh. "I don't want us to stall for too long, but I also don't want us to dive in too soon."
"Maybe we focus on getting a plan for when we go there, first." Lukas said from where he was making himself a sandwich. "Then we decide whether or not we're ready to go back up against them."
Everybody else nodded in agreement.
"Hey, any sign of Petra this morning?" Olivia asked as they all took seats at the table again.
"I don't think she's woken up yet." Jesse said, feigning uncertainty as she glanced in the direction of the hallway.
"She's been going through a rough time." Lukas said softly. "It'll be good if she can sleep in a bit and get some rest back."
The others nodded, returning to their breakfast. Jesse subtly glanced at all her friends, silently wondering whether they were ready for another battle, or not.
Nearly there. Just a few more days.
--------------------
The next few days flew by in the blink of an eye, the Order continuing to use every spare second training and planning. Even Petra started contributing to some of the ideas, stepping up a little to take some control of the training sessions.
Jesse was very happy to see her friend starting to look better. Petra was clearly still in a lot of pain and wasn't going to return to herself for a long while. But she's been improving a lot with the help of Jesse and, of course, Lluna. She and Jesse had silently switched rooms as well, too many memories haunting Petra the nights she slept in her own bed, even with Lluna there.
Jesse had admittedly been a bit worried about Petra at first. After the first night she spent in Jesse's room with Lluna, she has indeed looked a tad under the weather for a while. She had spent most of that day in bed, claiming that she was just tired and had a bit of a headache. As promised, Jesse had covered for Petra, while silently worrying about what was wrong with her friend.
But the following days, Petra seemed to be completely fine again. She brushed it off that the sleep deprivation had simply gotten to her and continued on as normal. Not questioning it any further, Jesse had just taken her friend's word for it.
That night the order were all once more gathered around their dining table, discussing the possibility of going up against Aiden the next day.
"The problem is, we don't even know where this so-called home base of them is." Olivia pointed out. "We arrived at what looked like just another patch of jungle, with them chilling in the middle of it."
"There'll be something, we just don't know where yet." Jesse replied. "We need time to look around, that's the problem."
"Luckily, we can use Maya's tracker for that." Olivia said, tapping the small redstone device. "It shows Aiden and Gill moving around-"
"Where?" Axel asked, leaning in. "All I see are dots!"
Olivia groaned. "Yes, Axel, those dots represent Aiden and Gill."
"Let's hope Maya sticks to them then, so we don't end up getting caught by her." Lukas said with a sigh, pulling a hand through his hair.
"Now remember, all we need to do is find out where they've hidden the command block, I need to deactivate it, and then we need to lug it out of there." Olivia said matter-of-factly.
Petra's gaze flickered in Jesse's direction. Jesse only gave her a small nod, to which the redhead relaxed a bit.
They had kept the plan of revenge a secret from the others. Jesse had lightly suggested it during the training session, on the day Petra was resting. By her friend's shocked glances and almost-horrified responses, she had decided to keep it between her and Petra.
It was unusual for Jesse. The only enemy she's ever felt that type of hatred towards, was Romeo. Understandably, both Romeo and Aiden had hurt her friends more than they hurt her, so it made sense that she felt the same form of hatred towards Aiden.
But it still felt different to her, walking into a battle with the plan of actually killing her opponent in the back of her head.
"Do you guys think we're actually ready for this?" Olivia asked nervously, beginning to fiddle with one of her pigtails.
"Heck yeah." Axel said excitedly. "Why wouldn't we be?"
"Because it actually hasn't been that long since we lost to them." Jesse replied with a sigh, resting her chin in one of her hands. "We might just be overestimating ourselves."
"I think we're ready." Petra said, speaking for the first time. "The training has paid off."
"Besides, we can't stall forever." Lukas added. "It's only a matter of time before Aiden and the others find us."
"Let's do it then." Jesse said, placing her hand out onto the table.
Petra was the first to nod and put her hand onto Jesse's. Taking a deep breath Lukas also put his out, followed hesitantly by Olivia and then Axel.
Everybody exchanged glances, grinning at each other. Even Petra joined in with a small smile of her own.
"We should call it a day." Lukas said as they began getting up. "We need all the energy we can get tomorrow."
"Agreed." Jesse said.
"I need to go put this away." Olivia said, turning away as she held up her sword that she still had on her.
"Oh, Olivia, wait!" Lukas called, jogging after her. "I actually have something I want to ask you."
As the two of them left the room, Axel got up from his seat as well, heading directly for the hallway. For a moment, Jesse and Petra were alone.
"Ready for tomorrow?" Jesse asked Petra softly.
"Yeah." Petra responded. "I don't care what the others think. Aiden's going down."
Jesse nodded, giving her friend a reassuring pat to the shoulder. The two of them began heading off to their rooms as well, Jesse getting ready to enter Petra's room while she walked towards Jesse's.
She frowned, noticing Petra flinch when she opened the the door, followed by her rubbing her wrist.
"Arm okay?" Jesse asked worriedly, praying that Petra didn't accidentally hurt her wrist in the training.
"Yeah, the bandanna just kind of twisted." Petra shrugged it off, readjusting the two bandanna's on her wrist.
Jesse raised her eyebrows. Of course with Petra's talent for hiding things, it was natural for her to suspect that her friend might be lying. Not saying anything else, Petra stepping into the room and closing the door behind her.
"You're just overreacting." Jesse muttered to herself, rubbing her tired eyes as she opened Petra's door, walking into her room and letting it swing shut behind her.

Ah, filler chapters, unfortunately they still exist.
I was tempted to combine this chapter with the next, as it is a little uninteresting and short - but a lot happens in chapter 15, and I kinda wanted it to stand on it's own!
Anywho, not a lot to address this chapter - The order's just about ready to have another go at the Blaze Rods and get to the bottom what they're up to... and Petra's hiding something-
Any theories welcome!
Now I'm going to sit in front of my calendar and count the days 'till the next chapter because I've suddenly gotten all my motivation back-
I hope you all enjoyed this chapter, and I'll see you in five days with chapter 15!
