Chapter 5 : Mate
Dacota looked up at the ceiling of her make-shift room. Xavier had put her in his house as the rest of the pack was so disapproving and she cried herself to sleep that night. Everyone hated her and she had no clue why.
During the night, she would hear Xavier come in and check on her, and she would be calm when he was there, and sad when he left.
She had not got a clue why, and it bewildered her why it happened.
1 month later
It's ok Dacota, it's ok your ok, your fine." Said Xavier.
"It's just the wolf taking over, let it. Please."
Dacota refocused on her cracking bones and banging head ache. She could hear her wolf Lily begging for control, so she let her. Her white wolf appeared once again, and her orange eyes returned.
"Why was that so painful." She said in the mind link.
"It's your wolf that's just fully developed. After this you'll be able to find your mate and mind link when in human form." He replied.
"Wow. A mate. I never even thought about having one before." She linked.
That was very true : she hadn't. She hadn't got a clue where her mate might be, who he was or what pack he was from. She knew one thing though : her mate would have to support her. Since her first panic attack, she had developed anxiety in new places. Xavier was always
the one to calm her down.
Yet again no idea.
"Come on Dacota, you can make this run my birth present."
A small growl escaped her lips. Ok, maybe she had forgotten his birthday yesterday, but it was only 17, not 18.
She and Xavier set off in a sprint, and they ran for hours. But then the moon started to go down, and they had to shift back. They returned to the place they shifted in the first place, and shifted to their human form. They both pulled on clothes, and laid there but j the grass.
But then Dacota heard all the voices in her head and let out a whimper.
"What's wrong?" Xavier said.
"Voices." She squeaked out.
"It's just the mind link," he said
"Imagine a wall."
So that's what she did and the voices stopped.
"Let's get you to bed."
She nodded tiredly and walked back to the Alpha house. She walked sluggishly up the stairs and climbed into the bed, knowing that on the morning she had to be up for the pack meeting.
*******
Dacota filed into the meeting room. She groaned in "surprise" as Justin, the player of the pack, yanked her onto his knee. From her time at the pack, she learnt that it was best to steer clear.
"Get off me." She growled.
"No." he says back in a seductive tone.
"Get..Off...ME NOW." She yelled.
"No." he said again. "I know you like it."
"JUSTIN ABERNATHY REALEASE MY MATE NOW OR DIE." Someone yells.
She looked up at that someone as they scooped her up into their arms and ran away.
Dacota looked up at her "mate" and gasped in shock. It was Xavier. The Alpha, Xavier Night, was her mate. She was bound to him for eternity.
But now at least everything made sense: the calming sense he had over her, the shivers down her spine on the first day she met him and how much she missed him when he was away.
"Was that true back there?" She asked.
"Well what do you think." He says softly and annoyingly.
"Well, I'm confused. Whenever I'm upset, your the only one to calm me down, when we met on the first day you sent a shiver down my spine and...when your away I miss you. But my wolf Lily is silent. I thought your wolf was supposed to indicate who your mate is." She said.
"Well, I know you are my mate because my wolf went crazy back there with Justin, but that's because my wolf is more developed than yours. Your wolf might be whining a little. Can you hear a whine when you listen closely."
Dacota silenced all of the people trying to mind link her and was surprised to hear a small whine in her head.
"Yeah. But only a little." She said quietly.
"There you go then. Your mine and no one else's. Anyone touches you, hurts you or does anything you don't like dies." He says.
"Why?" She asks.
He growls a little and drops her. He lifts her back up and pushes her against a tree.
"YOUR MINE. AND ANYONE WHO FORGETS THAT DIES. YOUR MY MATE, YOU BELONG TO ME." He yells.
He releases his death grip, allowing Dacota to slump back against the tree. A tear falls gingerly down her face. She sprints off in the opposite direction, shifting from the anger bubbling inside her. She was so angry and upset, she hated Xavier for thinking that she belonged to him. She may be young and naive, but she was mature enough to feel rejection and hurt.
Her white wolf bounded through the forest, her orange eyes glistening as they watered. Usually, her wolf would comfort her, but Lily too was hurt. She could feel that Lily was barely present, and that she wouldn't be for a while.
Before long, she grew tired and slowed her run to a steady plod.
But after about 10 minutes, she heard the steady bound of the paws so familiar to hers and she knew it was Xavier. She knew there was no point in continuing, so she stopped altogether and rested against a tree. Xavier's green eyes appeared in front of her. He was angry.
"Why'd you run?" He mind links. She ignores him, too hurt to reply.
"I'm sorry D. I was just so mad someone was trying to take you away from me. And...you kind have got killer attitude."
"Lily's upset." Was all she says.
"Jason is too. He's been ignoring me since I yelled at you."
"I'm sorry for running."
"I'm sorry for everything."
"Come on, I need to take you back and introduce you as my mate."
"I know your gonna hate me for this but...why?"
"Your the Luna."
