Chapter 4 : The Pack
Dacota looks at Alpha Xavier in wonder. He's so young and he's an Alpha. It must be hard. She thinks to herself. His stunning black wolf begins to shiver in the cold of the full moon, and she hears a horrifying crack. His body writhes in pain as the bones reform to his human shape. And he's naked.
Dacota quickly looks away as Xavier pulls his clothes on.
"Can your shift back for me sweetheart" he says softly. Sweetheart. She thinks to herself before replying.
"How" she asks
"Think of your human form"
She tries to think of her bruised legs, her arms and her face. And then a massive wave of pain hits her and the familiar sensation of bones cracking took place and she was human again. Her fur had disappeared and her not so smooth skin returned. She quickly covered up so he couldn't see the healing bruises.
Alpha Xavier gave her some new clothes and she slipped them on. Her body felt weak and tired and every bone in her small body ached and had stabbing pains in place. She felt like she could sleep now. But she couldn't. Not yet. She had to ask Xavier sone questions.
"So" she began "what do I do now."
"You come back to the pack." She had forgotten about the agreement.
"What about my stuff in my house." She asks worriedly.
"Your parents will be told you moved out to live with me. I sent my Beta to go get your stuff. We can go to say bye to them if you want." This upset her a little. She had no parents to say goodbye to and as soon as his Beta arrived he'd know what her dad did to her and how alone she was.
"No." she just says.
"No to saying bye or.."
"No" she says again.
"Your scaring me. Wait someone trying to mind link me. Back in a minute." He says.
His eyes gloss over and looks of sadness, anger and hurt flash in his face. He lunged at Dacota.
"Where are your parents." He screams.
"I-I-I don't know. I came home yesterday and my dad was gone and my mums been gone years."
He seemed satisfied at this answer but he wasn't done.
"He hit you. Didn't he." He says, sadness in his face. She nodded with tears in her eyes. Then she was hoisted up on his arms and he set off at a sprint. She had no idea where they were going but after a few minutes she fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.
When she awoke, she was in a pristine white room. The smell was sickening. It smelled like disease and famine. She was wearing a shirt hospital gown and tubes were in her arm. She felt afraid and started breathing heavily. Her heart felt like it was beating so fast but she felt it was hard to breathe. She also felt extremely claustrophobic.
The man she is assuming must be a doctor tries to tell her to calm down, but she can't hear him. But then he walks in. Xavier. And then she feels so calm and her breathing slows and her heart slows down.
The doctor speaks for the first time.
"Are you okay" he asks.
"Yeah" she says breathlessly."a little panicked"
"You had a panic attack." Says Xavier. "You were really confused."
"Where am I?" She asks.
"My pack." He says.
"Already?" She asks confusedly.
"Yeah. I had Doctor Mark check you over. Did you know you'd lost half of your blood?" He asks
"No. I knew I lost a bit, not that much though."
"We can hunt down your dad if you want us to"
She thinks carefully for a moment although she doesn't know why. Why would she want to see him?
"No it's fine." She says."can I leave now."
"Yeah, your clothes are under the bed." Says the doctor.
He pulls out the tubes and he and Xavier leave as Dacota gets changed.
After she had finished, she goes looking for them. She finds Xavier outside.
"I need to give you a tour of the territory, and I need to introduce you to the pack. They'll think your a rogue and kill you on the spot. I want to show you the pack house first."
He leads her out of the small building to outside. The ground smells funny, and everything looks..different. The forest next to her house wilted most of the year, yet the trees here looked surprisingly new and healthy. And it was winter.
Dacota could see lots of females giving her disapproving glances and some even spat at her feet. The males were worse: they growled, spat and even lunged at her. When they arrived at the pack house, it was like everyone in the pack was there and they didn't look happy to be there.
"This is Dacota Erin Falcon, and she's staying here. I invited her to join us and I don't appreciate the way you treated her back there. She's only shifted once, she is not a rogue or a threat. Welcome to the pack." He smiles looking at her on his last words.
The next part of the tour blurs for Dacota. She can't get over the fact that everyone hated her.
The next day had to be better.
