Chapter 5

"You need to tell me who your mentor is," Jason insisted as the vigilante typed away at her keyboard.

"I told you I didn't know his secret identity," she replied for the fifth time.

"A superhero name?"

"I called him Black Skull," she kept typing, "or just Skull."

"And that scythe at the back of the room," Jason guessed, scratching his chin, "his?"

She didn't answer, the vigilante just kept swatting him away when he tried leaning over her shoulder. He felt the urge to yank down her hood to see who she was. However he felt that would result in a sai stuck in his chest. If that Skull guy was just her mentor, imagine how good at fighting he must've been.

"You going to tell me how he died to this fire guy...?" Jason got ready to be punched in the face.

"I'd rather not," she snapped back, "I think you should head home, your parents will go looking for you any minute."

"Where can I find you?" Jason looked back at the computer chair to see the vigilante was gone.

Out of curiosity he peered at the screen. Coding was scrambled across it, something a tech genius would probably be able to read. Just in case he snapped a picture of it, maybe Brian would be able to figure it out.

His parents weren't pleased with him once he got home.

They asked a bunch of questions, mostly if he had gotten into trouble. Jason just said that he had gotten distracted at Brian's, and lost track of time. Hopefully they wouldn't doubt his excuse.

With a huff, he trudged back into his room. This vigilante stuff was really starting to mess with his brain. First there was one, then two, now there is a crazy criminal that killed one of them.

Jason laid down on his bed, staring at the ceiling. He rolled around, unable to fall asleep. The images of the vigilante and the flame symbol wouldn't leave his mind. With the sounds of the city filling his room Jason fell into deep sleep.

"Anything new?" Alina said, as she sat down at their lunch table.

"Vigilante stuff," Jason replied, "expect Brian to be freaking out."

"Thanks for the warning," Alina nodded, "so what vigilante stuff?"

"For reason the vigilante met with me yesterday."

"What'd she say?"

"Here comes Brian, I'm sure he will be super eager to tell you."

"I've got ideas for names," Brian rushed as he sat down, "I want you hear your guys' first."

"What-" Alina started, extremely confused.

"He wants to come up with a cool name for the vigilante," Jason explained while drinking water.

"Moon Ninja," Brian read off of his list, "Night Eagle, Midnight, Flaming Dragon-"

"Why'd you choose a dragon?" Jason rolled his eyes, "she doesn't breathe fire or fly."

"You told me she uses gliders," Brian corrected, "plus dragons were a symbolic symbol of loyalty and justice."

"Most of your names have something related to the night time," Alina suggested, "so how about we mix some stuff together."

"Moon Dragon?" Jason said, trying not to sound ridiculous.

"Doesn't match the outfit," Brian shook his head, "Midnight Dragon."

"Midnight is too long," Alina stated, "shorten it."

"Dragon is long too," Brian argued.

"How about," Alina tapped her chin, "Dragon Night."

"Sounds like a Medieval character or something," Jason chuckled, "Night Dragon."

"Silent as the night, strikes like a dragon," Brian moved his hands like he was making a slogan.

"Sweet," Alina grinned, "I'm liking it."

"Attention Eximius High students!" the PTA blared, "the school is hereby banning all talk or conversation about the vigilante. The city board has asked that we keep that away from schools. Thank you and have a great day!"

"That's ridiculous!" Brian whisper-shouted as soon as the cafeteria got loud again, "they can't make us not talk about something!"

"I don't know about you," Jason sighed, "but I'm not getting detention."

"Agreed," Alina looked down at her food, "but they can't stop us from doing it outside school."

"That reminds me," Jason looked at Brian, "I have to show you something after school."

"Ok," Brian said, probably not even realizing what he said, "I need to make a drawing of what the vigilante looks like, according to your description."

"Is there anything you aren't good at?" Jason rolled his eyes, still pretty serious.

"Um," Brian said in thought, "golf and driving."

"You can hack into a government file but you can't drive a car?" Jason widened his eyes, "seriously?!"

"It's so complicated!" Brian sighed, "shifting gears, checking mirrors, pedals, steering-"

"That's sad," Alina laughed, "but you hacked into a government file?!"

"Yep!" Brian replied, proudly, "was just an achievement though."

"He's done much worse," Jason shook his head, smiling.

"That's awesome, and makes me worried that you'll hack into my computer," Alina looked at Brian.

"I probably did it in my sleep," Brian shrugged, sounding completely serious.

"What'd you want me to look at?" Brian plopped down in his black computer chair, spinning around.

Brian's room had a high-tech, nerdy feel to it. Posters from video games were hung up on the wall. A pile of comic books and movies were in the corner. His desk, with a computer, seemed like the place were he spent nose of his time. Jason took out his phone and pulled up the photo. Brian read the coding like words in a book, skimming over them quickly.

"This is a program," Brian said, "a complicated one too. To put it in easy form, it's a hacking program. It's almost as good as mine. How did you get a picture of this?"

"The vigilante's computer," Jason scratched the back of his neck, "anyways can you hack into the Night Dragon's computer?"

"Oh that name sounds so sweet," Brian rubbed his hands together, "and of course I can."

"A genius, hacking, superhero loving, jock," Jason threw his hands up, "you get everything!"

"You get to talk to the Night Dragon," Brian pointed out, "I get to listen."

"Hack," Jason walked up behind him, "please."

Brian typed so fast at his keyboard, Jason could barely keep track of his friend's fingers. He had trouble comprehending the coding and programs on the screen. A 3D map appeared on the screen, zooming in on the city.

"It'll take me a little while to get into her computer," Brian glanced back at him, "I did pinpoint the location of the vigilante."

"I thought you hacked into her computer?" Jason questioned.

"When she picked up your earpiece it shot a tracker onto her outfit," Brian smirked, showing a location on the map.

"Your good, man," Jason grinned as they clasped hands.

"There's one thing," Brian stared shockingly at the screen, "she's right on top of us."
