Chapter 3
"You saw who?!" Brian shrieked as we walked to school the next day.
"I think I saw the vigilante..." Jason repeated, drifting off.
"Explain everything, man."
"Well first off, she was a girl," Jason said, "she wore a cool green and black costume. With a hood and mask-"
Jason went on explaining everything he observed the day before. Even the vigilante holding the criminal over the edge of the building. He wasn't even sure if his father was right about the vigilante being a fugitive from the law. Still, something about the hooded girl intrigued him.
"What are your going to do now?" Brian asked, raising his eyebrows questionably, "tell your dad?"
"Probably not," Jason sighed, "he'd want to arrest the vigilante not help her."
"I can't believe it's a girl," Brian shook his head, "were would she even learn those skills? Why hasn't the police force arrested her yet? Who is she really under the mask-"
"Calm down Brian," Jason chucked, shaking his head, "we can't assume anything until we know more."
"She held a guy over the top of a building," Brian said slowly, "isn't that enough?! She's awesome!"
"I don't think a lot of people would agree," Jason pointed at a newspaper stand.
On every newspaper cover in the booth was "Vigilante Spotted At Another Fire." He picked up a paper and scanned it. Some of the articles were about politics, or police reports. However the main point was the vigilante was a fugitive from the law, and will not be tolerated. A picture of a shadowy figure leaping out of the burning building filled a quarter of the paper.
"What you looking at guys?" Alina said as she comes up behind them, "is that the vigilante guy?"
"Yeah," Brian nodded as Jason set down the paper, "Jason spotted the vigilante last night!"
"Seriously!" Alina widened her eyes, "where?!"
"At the burning building," Brian explained hyperactively, acting like a fanboy, "he ran up to it and the vigilante swung out of the building like a boss-"
"Can we not explain public enemy number one in public?" Jason hissed and he pulled them aside.
"Then she dropped the kid and disappeared," Brian finished quickly.
"That's awesome," Alina said once we started walking again, "but did you like, track her or something?"
"Fresh out of trackers," Brian replied casually, then realized what he said, "not that I have a stash of them along with hacking equipment and-"
"That's enough Brian," Jason slaps a hand over his mouth, "and I seriously need to come to your house today."
Brian just nodded and Jason took his hand off. Alina looked like she was in deep thought. He just sighed deeply and stared up at the stormy sky. Jason had the feeling that the vigilante was somehow always watching him.
What has he gotten himself into?

"Remember come to my place at 8," Brian reminded him while they left school.
"Got it," Jason smiled, "if I don't show up check my place to see if I'm sleeping."
"Yeah right."
His friend jumped down the school steps and continued down the gloomy road. Jason glanced back up the building rooftops for probably the five hundredth time. Again he was met with disappointment, still there was nothing there.
Something extremely fast whizzed past his face and embedded itself into the school brick wall. A small knife was holding a note on the wall. Jason pulled it out of the wall, grabbing the note before it fell to the ground.
I told you not to come looking for me. If your just going to anyways, meet me on the burnt building's roof at 10, no later, no less.
-You Know Who
He shoved the paper into his Jean pocket, hoping no one saw. Rushing down the street Jason shook his head in frustration. Of course the one time he went to Brian's, the vigilante wants to meet up.
The sun would go down at 9 according to his phone, so he would probably leave Brian's by then. Maybe this will work out.
Jason pushed open the doors to his apparent complex, moving over to the stairs. There wasn't enough power in the city to even run the elevators. The next thing that would probably shut down is the street lamps. Well, the ones still dimly lit up.
As he opened his door, Jason wondered who the vigilante was. It probably wasn't Alina, she just moved to this area. His Dad was sitting at the table, his newspaper open. The newspaper was the same one Jason saw earlier about the vigilante.
He trudged to his room, trying not to make eye contact with his father. Gently he shut his bedroom door, and dropped his bag onto the ground. Jason sat on his rolling chair and slid over to his laptop. The second he opened his computer, an email popped up on his screen.

Check out this article on the vigilante.

This "vigilante" is showing up more and more frequently. Killing more and more people. No one gave him permission to do this. This individual is not on the police force or FBI. Most of the people in Eximius City don't feel safe with a person in a costume killing without question. According to law, killing is murder. We have a murderer in our city, and the police force were the only ones doing anything about it. Now the Eximius City mayor is issuing a reward for anyone who can catch the vigilante, alive.
Jason sighed, leaning back in his chair. He slid his chair over to the window. From his room he could basically walk onto the roof next to him. In the alleyway between the two buildings he heard shouting.
"Help!" a familiar voice shouted.
Of course his best friend, Brian, was being cornered in the dark alleyway, a knife pointed at his head. Jason stood straight up and looked straight down at the ground. He lost all train of thought and leaped out of the window towards the ground.
