Brian wasn't exactly calm when Jason told him about the new 'heroes' they ran into. The first thing Brian did was screech with his mouth shut, earning a kick in the shin. Jason knew he shouldn't have told a superhero nerd about two super powered teens. When he went back to his school, he dyed his hair brown and put in blue colored contacts over his brown eyes. At lunch he tried to calm his friend down.
"Brian!" Jason hissed, trying not to raise attention, "you need to chill out right-"
"They have code names!" Brian was breathing heavily, "their backstory is so unique! I wonder if they know anything about being, like, normal! Jason, here comes Alina, you sure you don't want to tell her about the 'you know what?'"
"Yes," he frowned, remembering Brian didn't know 'Alina' was Night, "I don't think she'd like it."
"Fine!" Brian put his hands up, "hey Alina! How you doing?"
"Good," Night smiled, even though Skull knew it was forced.
"I wanted to ask you two," Brian said nervously, "there's these two new kids, and they don't seem to want to be popular. I know our circle is kind of secret, but can I, y'know, let them hang out with us?"
"Is that even a question?" Night rolled her eyes, "of course Brian. We can't lose our best hacker friend."
"Okay great! Wait...are you two exploiting me-"
"Just bring them over, dude." Jason held back laughter.
"Be right back!"
Skull turned to Night the second his friend left the table. Her face went back to its usual expression, emotionless.
"You really need to tell him."
"No, Skull. It's bad enough he knows who you are!"
"Come on! I just met the guy three days ago, and he's already my best friend, for the second time! I trust him, and so should you."
"Things have changed since you left!" Night frowned. "Criminals are tougher, the crime rate is through the roof, and there have been huge fires every couple days! We can't afford to worry about people close to us, they always get hurt and you know it."
"You can keep secrets," Black Skull sighed, "but not from him, please."
"I'll tell him after school," Night sighed, brushing her hair behind her ear.
"Okay I'm back!" Brian chirped from behind them, and he swerved his head around.
In the corner of his eye, two figures sat down on the opposite side of the table. He spun back to face the two new figures, Brian plopping down next to him. It took all of his willpower not to make any sign of recognition towards the familiar girl and boy.
"Jason, Alina," Brian said, "this is Aura Winters and Vance Xavier, transfer students from...where again?"
"Eximius Tech, on the east side of town," Vance replied, pushing up his sunglasses.
"I hear crime's gone up around there," Night spoke up, "have you guys seen the vigilante?"
"Um..." Vance stammered, running a hand through his hair, "NO...nope...no vigilante sightings to report."
"Aura, you don't talk that much," Jason said, trying to keep up his oblivious dork act.
"She has Aphonia," Vance quickly said, "Aura can't talk at all, there's something wrong with her larynx."
"What's with the shady glasses?" Night leaned back in her chair.
"I have an eye problem you do not want to see, I have some bad eyesight because of it," Vance explained, gesturing to his dark glasses, "Aura and I met in the Special Ed. program back at Tech."
"Makes sense," Brian nodded, "why'd you two transfer here?"
"There's a...clinic on this side of town which is helping us with our disorders."
"Welcome to Oakcreek," Jason said, "don't expect either one though."
"I hear you guys have more vigilante sightings on this side of town, have you seen her?"
"Her?" Brian asked incredulously, "where'd you hear that the vigilante was a girl?"
Vexen, this is Black Skull, he thought towards Vance, masking his mental voice, I'm in the room, and you need to think of an excuse, fast.
He saw the corner of Vexen's mouth twitch, the teen obviously confused as to where Skull's voice came from. Jason kept his expression neutral, not giving any signs of his thought.
"I heard a rumor," Vance stared at the table anxiously, "couldn't believe it when I heard it. I wanted to see if you guys heard it."
"Anyways," Skull interrupted, "you guys ready for the Calculus test?"

When he arrived back at the Southern base, Black Skull was already in costume. He took a secret entrance in, where he stored an extra set of his Kevlar armor and of course, hair dye. What is a hero without their hidden hair and eye colors? He then took a path into the main hallway, entering the main lounge area.
Archwind was floating criss cross in a meditative pose, silently hovering above the ground. Vexen however, was attacking a punching bag with ferocity. Vexen had his hood down, but his mask was still over his mouth and nose. He noticed Vexen's eyes glowing a brighter purple than usual, and Skull noted that Vexen was probably angry for some reason. Skull turned on his voice modifier by pressing a hidden button on his wrist.
"You out to kill someone?" Skull asked, leaning against the wall.
"I can't believe we're standing here while that facility is still standing," Vexen threw another punch, "we should be blowing up that whole compound by now!"
"We have nothing on them," Black Skull shook his head, "sure you two are subjects of human experimentation, but it will be hard to prove that place guilty."
"What about the countless surgical rooms! Or I don't know, the stasis capsules we were placed in for months at a time. Maybe this!"
Vexen backflipped, shooting a beam of purple energy midair. A circle of runes formed on the red punching bag. Not even a second later the vinyl imploded, disappearing without a trace. Vexen sighed, sitting down on the ground. The teen put his head in his hands. Jason walked over to Vexen, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder.
"Vexen," Skull huffed, "I know what you've been through-"
"Really!" Vexen snapped, then quickly his face became worrisome, "I'm sorry...I had a lot of friends there you know? Test subjects who went through the same physical torture that we did. The scientists tried splicing animal DNA with some, others they tried robotics. We got lucky, they used this molecular manipulation genetic stuff on us, that experiment apparently was a success, because three survived."
"Three?" Skull raised an eyebrow, "but only you two survived-"
"He had fire powers," Vexen said, "they let him out only a year into our experiments. He was completely under their mental control, no free will or anything. The subject was basically a machine, Johansen controlled him the whole time. I heard rumors about what he did when I was let out every couple months. All the battles he had, with you. Then, I was put under, for I don't know how long, that was when Arch got her powers. Do you know how many scars she has? I don't even know how many, but that one on her neck, that's nothing."
"The fire powers subject," Skull said calmly, "he nearly killed me, wiped my memories, then Dr. Johansen reprogrammed me to get my company. I lived a normal, oblivious life for a year, then BLAM, back to reality. I have more amnesia than I would like, but I know that when you fall, your best choice is to get off your butt and do something. Reality is like a train, you get on board or get run over. So, here I am. Vexen, think reasonably, please, and prepare to fight."
"Fight?" Vexen's eyes flickered up, "are we-"
Jason interrupted Vexen by holding a scythe up to his throat. Skull noticed Vexen's eyes narrow with challenge, and Archwind's gaze flickered over to them. A clang echoed through the room as his opponent parried with his sword. He hooked Vexen's hilt with his curved blade, pulling the sword out of Vexen's hands. To make it even he sheathed his scythe, holding his fists up in attack position. The test subject chuckled darkly, his opponent's raised fists glowing purple. Vexen swung first, a purple streak following his hand. Skull easily dodged, limboing swiftly under the punch. He flips to the side, landing a roundhouse kick onto Vexen's ribcage. His opponent groaned in pain, but Skull noticed a purple light covering the wound.
"Oh, is there anything you can't do?" Skull groaned in frustration.
"Can't fly!" Vexen snarked, punching Jason in the gut.
"Don't aim for armor!" Skull advised, not even feeling the blow.
Black Skull flipped forwards, kicking Vexen square in the chest with both feet. Vexen feel backwards, landing hard against the training mat. Skull grabbed Vexen's hands and pinned them.
"And that is why you need training," Skull smirked, letting go of Vexen.
"I have training," Vexen grumbled, rubbing his hands.
"Real training," Skull handed Vexen's sword back to him, "it isn't good to have training programmed into your mind. You can know everything there is on martial arts, but you don't truly know it until you do it."
"Yes, Sensei." Vexen bowed with exaggeration.
"I wouldn't be doing that," Jason hummed, twirling a butterfly knife, "when I learned Shuri-Ryū I would've ran 3 miles for that."
"That's the method you use?"
"Mainly," he shrugged, "I mix in some personal favorites, I also use some Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido, but I mainly mix in Keysi Method."
"When exactly...did you have time to learn all that?"
"Trust me, he didn't," a female voice said from across the room.
Night was up in the rafters again, obviously in her natural habitat up there. Her cape hung loosely at her feet, Jason noticed she had taken a couple a couple inches off it since before he lost his memory.
"He went away for months at a time sometimes," Night dropped down from the beams, "I trained here."
"I see," Vexen nodded, "you have street smarts and he's got skills smarts."
"You saying I don't have street smarts?" Jason asked.
"Are you saying I don't have skill smarts?" Night asked at the same time.
"Forget I said anything," Vexen pulled his hood down.
Vexen's purple eyes kind of nerved Jason, his irises were so dark his pupils were barely visible. Still, the teen tried to not flinch when Vexen glanced at him.
"How'd school go?" Night questioned, he noticed her making a smoke bomb.
"Fine I guess," Vexen shrugged, "you know, it kind of reminds me of Johansen's facility."
He noticed Archwind tilting her head in confusion, the girl sure wasn't programmed with sarcasm recognition. Archwind didn't seem comfortable with taking of her mask around Night, he was waiting for the two girls to fight.
"Jail in a nutshell," Skull grinned.
A loud alarm blared through the compound, the lights turning a bright red. He heard a 'shink,' and turned to see Archwind with her twin katanas drawn. Night calmly pressed a button on the wall, the alarm quickly turning off. He noticed his heart rate was pretty high, his head slightly pounding. I need to do 2,000 push ups and fast-
"What was that?!" Vexen finally screeched.
"Alarm," Night replied simply.
"Care to explain why?!" Vexen pulled his hood back up, Archwind slowly sheathing her swords.
"It means there's been a large number of police reports at once, it usually indicates a large shooting, or possibly a large fire."
"What's this one?" Skull asked, walking up besides Night.
"Oh no..."
"What! What is it?!" He squinted at the screen.
"It's him."
"You mean...Incinerator?"
"Yes."
"What did he do?" Vexen stammered.
"The police station," Skull figured out, noticing a trend in the map's patterns, "he set it on fire. We have to go now!"
"Are you kidding me?" Night hissed, grabbing his arm, "they've always been out to get us! They will arrest us on sight. It's bad enough with the mayor and his stupid reward-"
"Innocent lives are in danger, and that's enough for me," Skull grabbed his grapple off the work table, "I really hold its enough for you."
"Of course," Night sighed, "let's go."
"Archwind and I will stay here if you want-" Vexen said from behind them.
"No," Skull shook his head, "suit up. Vexen, you might want to change your suit colors, the Incinerator likes red."
"I LIKE MY RED SUIT, THANK YOU VERY-"
"Shhh," Skull said. "Accept it."
"Archwind and Vexen go in the back of the precinct, Skull and I will take the front."
"You want to be heroes?" Skull crossed his arms, "now is your shot."
