Chapter 1
School. The one thing in Eximius City that didn't truly make Jason edgy. No one talked about the city in school though, the teachers would never allow it. Supplies were always running low, so he had to bring everything. Pencils, paper, pens, erasers, folders, binders, books, and everything else.
Jason walked to school, staring at the cracked gray pavement as he trudged by. The familiar whirring of sirens and loud honking of car horns filled the streets. He heard footsteps quickly approaching him from behind, and his heart started to pound louder.
Relief flowed over him when he turned around and spotted his best friend, Brian, running up to him. Brian had the face that would probably end up on a teen magazine. He had perfect black hair and dark blue eyes.
Of course Brian was completely oblivious to the fact that girls were constantly gushing over him. It was disgusting if you asked Jason, so they really don't talk about it.
"Jason!" Brian grinned and walked next to him on his left side, "have you heard about that vigilante, it sounds awesome!"
"Tell me about it," Jason shook his head, "it's all my dad talks about. I wish I could meet the vigilante."
"Then he will have to kill you," Brian said jokingly, widening his eyes.
"If one of us meets the vigilante," Jason said, turning serious for a second, "we tell each other, deal?"
"Absolutely."
"Let's get to school."

"You'd think after two years in High School that they would improve the food," Brian said as he crashes next to him for lunch.
"Meh," Jason shrugs and eats another bite, "I don't really mind it."
"That's because you are as tough as nails," Brian raises his eyebrows, "I wouldn't be surprised if you were the vigilante."
"Fighting skill 0," Jason counts on his fingers, "superpowers 0, and costume another 0."
"What do you think the costume looks like," Brian fantasized, "a cape, mask, weapons!"
"Keep in mind that the vigilante kills people bro," Jason put a hand on his shoulder, "a lot of people probably want him dead."
"What if it is a girl though," Brian ignores what he says, "sweet."
"Why me?" I mutter, "of all the people in this school I get the oblivious one."
"Heard that."
"Oh that you hear."
"New student 12 O'clock," Brian nudges me, looking forwards.
He raised his head up and spotted a girl with long black hair. She had a lunch tray in her hands and was looking around the room. The girl had dark blue eyes, with black glasses. Jason knew she would quickly become one of the populars.
"She'll just be with the alpha girls soon dude," Jason styled his brown hair out of his face, "you have the biggest shot of talking to her."
"Look again," Brian said, a look of pure shock plastered on his face.
The girl completely walked past the popular section of the cafeteria, and it was pretty obvious she had nothing to do with it. She just cast a sideways glance at the girls practically made of plastic, and made a small sneer.
"Hey can I sit here?" the girl asked, tapping Jason on the shoulder.
"Sure," Jason said in surprise, "but I'm sure there is room at better tables."
"You mean with the people who get F's and complain about a strand of hair tangled?" she said while sitting down, "no thank you."
"What's your name?" Brian questioned, trying to play it cool.
"Alina," the girl said, "you guys?"
"I'm Jason," he replied, "that's Brian."
"Sup," Brian waved then looked back down at his food.
"I'm from the school uptown," Alina explains, "North Eximius High."
"Welcome to Oakcreek," Jason smiled, "don't expect either of those things though."
"Psh," Alina shook her head, "nothing in this city is nature related. I heard there was a vigilante on this side of town."
"We know as much as you do," Brian said, "it sounds pretty awesome though."
"My parent don't agree," Alina sighed, pushing up her glasses, "seems like no people want a person going around breaking laws."
"Criminals do it all the time though," Jason frowned, "yet they care more about a person doing good."
"Hey do-"
The bell cuts Alina off, and we have to head to class. Jason walked down the hall, stopping at his plain gray locker. He doesn't make eye contact with the school bully, Brad.
Quickly he grabbed two books and a pencil out of his locker. Brad approached him and Jason spun on his heels the other way. The taller male easily catches up to him.
"Hey Parker," Brad grabbed his shoulders, "made a girlfriend at lunch?"
"Go away," Jason sneered, "don't you have classes to fail?"
"Don't you have a nerd convention to go to?" Brad shook him.
"I said go away," Jason tried pulling out of his grasp.
"Oh look here comes your girlfriend-"
Alina walked up next to Jason and punched Brad in the jaw. She kicked him in the gut then gently pulled Jason away. He looked at her in wonder, turning between her and Brad.
"What are you thinking?" Jason exclaimed, "we can get suspended for fighting!"
"No teachers are nearby," Alina rolled her eyes, "and the camera in the ceiling shorted out."
"What?" Jason glanced at the camera and saw it sparking.
When he turned back to Alina she was already gone. A sticky note was attached go one of his books. Neat handwriting was scribbled across it.
Your late for class doofus! See you tomorrow.
