Chapter 37.
"Sadie....I needed to see you."
I pushed him out into the empty hall and stood against the wall, shutting the door behind us.
"Paul, what the heck are you doing here?? How did you know where I was!?" I closed my robe even more as the bright lights peered through the see through fabric.
"You weren't home. I went over to see ye and....I guess I missed your company. I went to the club you work at and I learned from the owner that you and your sister flew off to Miami. Why didn't you tell me??"
I sighed and scratched the back of my head. "I just had to get away from the world. From the drama and the gloomy weather....from you."
He stayed silent and turned on his heel, walking away. I bit my lip and chased after him, grabbing his arm.
"Paul...wait. I..I'm glad you're here. To be honest....I guess I wanted to just get away from Richard. After what he told me I knew being in that place again was going to eat me up inside. I didn't want to destroy myself."
He nodded. "I'm sorry I just showed out of the blue. I'm sorry about what Richard said. He's just...."
"Don't defend him Paul. I know he's your friend and all but....aren't we friends too?"
He stroked the side of my face and gave me a small smile. "We are. Look I should go now and catch a flight before..."
"Are you crazy?? You just got here you can't leave now."
"I don't want to ruin your fun."
I smiled and grabbed his hand. "That's impossible. Come on."
I pulled him into our room and shut the door. Emily still sleeping with Martha.
"You can take the sofa for now. If you don't mind."
"Thanks. Are ye sure, I can get my own room..."
"Don't be silly. I'll just get you some blankets. God knows we have plenty to spare." I giggled. He sat on the sofa cushions and watched me turn on a dim lamp, coming back with sheets, a quilt and three pillows. He chuckled.
"This place really outshines everywhere else yeah?"
"We wanted to go big with this trip. I've never been to Miami before." I shrugged.
"It's a lovely warm paradise. It's been quite some time though." He said, taking his shoes off, followed by his coat. I kissed his cheek, making him blush.
"What was that for?" He asked.
"For being a sweetheart. G'night Paul."
"Night Sadie. Night little one." He rested a hand on my belly and gave a small smile. I moved my fingers over his slowly before standing up and turning off the lamp. Emily mumbling and turning on her side. I yawned and laid down, wrapping my arms around her waist and cuddling against her. I felt her hand move on mine, giving a small squeeze.
..
"G'morning sunshine."
My eyes opened to see a cheery Emily, fresh out of the shower. A towel around her body. I groaned and turned away, cuddling with Martha.
"What time is it?"
"Ten fifteen. How was your sleep?" She giggled.
"Still not over." I mumbled.
"Come on sis! Beach day! Ocean, tans, swimming!" She shook me. I turned on my back and looked at her.
"Where's Paul??"
She gave me a confused look. "What?"
"Paul. He came over last...." I sat up and looked at the empty sofa. The blankets and pillows gone. Like nobody ever came. I stayed silent.
"Missing him already huh? Come on Sadie. Were here to forget about the guys. I'll order breakfast while you go take a shower." She kissed my cheek and patted my belly.
..
Was it all a dream? Was I really missing Paul that much? Fuckin pot brownie messing with my head. I could swear it all happened. Everything. I never have nightmares or dreams that....real.
I rinsed the soap off my body and shut the water off. Grabbing a towel, I dried off and made my way out of the bathroom to the main room to grab a cute, white sundress. I pulled on some underwear and stepped into the dress, grateful it fit.
"Wow. You look so beautiful."
I turned around and blushed to see Paul standing in the open doorway. He walked inside, shutting the door.
"You're here. You left. When I woke up I was afraid I made everything up..."
"Oh I'm very much here." He laughed, patting his body. I giggled and noticed a small set of flowers in his hand. As he approached, I realised it was a flower crown.
"Ere I...I saw this in a shop. Thought you'd look beautiful in it." He said softly. I took it out of his hands and place it on my head. The soft pink petals making my blonde hair shine.
"Thank you Paul. It really is beautiful."
I couldn't help myself from blushing. He just smiled and reached over, fixing a few strands of my hair that were out of place. Emily walked in the door and paused when she saw Paul and I standing together.
"So...this is how it is?" She smirked.
"Don't start Em. Is breakfast almost up? I'm starving." I rubbed my belly. The small kicks reminding me of the time.
"It's coming. Calm down. Why hello Paul. Just couldn't resist my sister huh?" Em teased, taking Martha's leash off. I was about to speak. Paul interrupted.
"No I...I couldn't."
My face was pink. I fanned myself. "It's hot in here isn't it? Let me open a window."
"Hot for McCartney huh?" Em winked. I rolled my eyes and opened a window. The fresh air filling the room. Our breakfast came in time and soon I was racing for a plate.
..
It was three in the afternoon as we made our way to the sandy beach. The sea breeze comforting me. Paul found us a small spot to settle on. Emily sat on a chair beside me, grabbing the sun lotion from my purse.
She was in her red bikini, feeling like a woman while I sat in my sundress, putting sunscreen on my arms and legs. Paul in his shorts, shirtless and looking sexier than ever. I had to remind myself that we were only friends.
"Did you know it's Sadie's birthday?" Em added, putting on her lolita shades. I gave her a look to shut up. She just giggled and blew me a kiss.
"I did not know that. Happy Birthday love." Paul smiled.
"Thanks."
We both watched Emily scream in happiness as she got up from her seat and ran across the beach, into someone's arms. I rolled my eyes and layed back.
"Who's that?" Paul asked.
"Her stupid boyfriend. Now I know why she wanted to come down here."
"Young love. Atleast it gives us some time alone yeah?"
I looked at him and nodded. "Paul?"
"Yes?"
"Why are you here? Why do you suddenly care and....want my company? Two months ago you couldn't wait to get me out of your life and now here you are. Traveling out of the country for a very pregnant, unstable, naive girl who practically derailed your life."
He looked down and then at me. "The truth?"
I nodded.
"I think I'm falling in love with you."
I stayed silent, looking at his eyes shift from mine, to the ocean. He gave a small smile to himself and stood up.
"I'm off to get a drink. You want one?"
I nodded and watched him turn around, leaving me alone to collect my thoughts.
